Hobbit

Hi, My name is Ferage, from Budapest, Hungary. I played H3 a lot in my childhood and I started to play with H3HD Hota again a years ago. I loved making this map because it was a fantastic adventure in Middle-Earth. I was able to watch all movies lot’s of time and read the books with passion. I tried to include a little bit of every piece of H3 things to this story. You need lot of tactics and creative mind to complete this 2 months mission. It’s an advantage to know Middle-Earth, but the conversations will help you to find the right way. It’s a mix of the movies, books, and new lines with old friends. I try to cover a little bit of every flavour of Tolkien’s world, the heroes, creatures, artifacts. If you won the battle of five armys and you want more wandering in Middle-Earth you can find some more surprise. This is what I created and I hope you enjoy playing with it.

Map: The Hobbit - by Bilbo Baggins
(Heroes III – Horn of the Abyss)
you find it in
https://www.maps4heroes.com/forum/opinions.php?map_id=1840&game=3

You can download here the big battles (saves), if you don't want to wandering, just fight against Sauron, Smaug, Bolg and Azog

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o764fxaif265ifu/AABwvmaaaXXvHITujRJIzEYia?dl=0

DESCRIPTION:

Instructions: for starting heroes don’t choose artifact!
You do it better if do not lose any unit before arrive to Erebor.

Tips: Follow the adventure if you can.
"If in doubt, Meriadoc, always follow your nose."

After you are the King under the Mountain, you can retake Middle-Earth from Evil. There are lot of surprise on the map.

Special thanks to:
Angee Agocs for translating the scripts
J.R.R. Tolkien for the Books

I you have any question or you find mistake, please tell me here!
Thanks,
Ferage

This a working link. Gonna try the map, definitely. Such a coincidence, since I thought these days that Halflings are probably hobbits and I recently started to reread LotR.

The design is very poor and lazy.
Big and bland open spaces.

Sorry friend, may sound harsh but this map is really bad quality, design related.

There are some standards created over years, if you want to get it played, that will require the effort to design a map and make it nice to look at. At least, try the random brush, don't let huge and empty spaces, those are usually a turn off for everyone. Then if the story is good, that will be a well appreciated bonus, not the other way.

I remember The Gholam. Relatively easy, but had a very nice story and design.

Now, it's not like I won't try out your map, but I'd like it to be decorated at least. And maybe the story surprises me and is good.

P.S. This is one of the main reasons I haven't finished my story-centered XH map. You need a lot of work to balance stuff and make the landscape look good, etc.

Thanks Guys!

My first map. I make design on the story walking line, but I made the whole middle earth map. Maybe thats was a bad idea.

The game is very difficult. Every single wandering stacks and the enemy heroes too. I put my time to make the game difficult.

I hope you enjoy to play

Some people wrote to me that they don’t know the goal of the map.
I’m a little bit Tolkien fun and probably not everybody knows what is need to play (sorry)
I made it for myself, but when I finished I thought maybe its interesting for other gamers.

I tell the STORY LINE and some help to win the game:
With Thorin collect dwarfes, equipments for the journey (other heroes can help to collect that)
Cross Grey Heaven, go to Bree. Meet with Gandalf (ArchMage), Move to Hobbiton, collect the team (One Hobbit join about three stack). You have 200/200/200 units. Go cross OldForest, meet BombadilTom
After go to Rivendell. You fight with 3 trolls and a small wolf packs. Meet with Elrond. Go cross the mountains, fight with stonegolems, with the Goblin King, after the mountain against wolfraiders. Meet with butterfly, and with the Eagles.
Fly to Isengard, meet with Saruman, after go to the Fangorn, meet with Treebeard, ents, huorns, after go to Lothlorien, and after the bridge go to Radagast (new hero)
Radagast need to move to Dol Goldur, fight against goblins, wolfs, orcmages, nasguls and Sauron (Elrond, Saruman and Galadriel join to your team). After move to Beorn, after Angmar and fly to Erebor.
With Thorin you need to go to Beorn, cross Mirkwood, fight with Insects, go to Woodland Realm, fights against elfs, meet with Tauriel (change artifact with Kili), go to Lake-Town, meet with Bard and Soldiers, and after to Erebor.
You fight against Smaug and his spawn (You have (200/200/200/200/100/50/50 units). And find the arkenstone (grail)
Tauriel with Legolas go to Gundabad, fight against goblins, wolfs, bats, collect artifacts and move to Erebor.
Battle of Five Armies: Your 4 heroes meet, Bard, Dain and Thranduil gives his armies and you need to fight against Bolg and Azog. (You have near 750/600/400/400/400/400/150 units). To win the game, bring the arkenstone inside Erebor and be the King under the Mountain.

Every small and big battle (I think) veryvery hard. If Thorin lose unit before Erebor it’s not possible to win. In small battles, must not lose units. (with spells, archers and run you can do it)
Against Sauron don’t loose too much units (if stay 50 Crusader, 150 SilverPegasus, 250 Enchanter you are good but more is better)
After Smaug you need to stay alive with min 1 dwarf, but do it better if half of mage, elf, unicorn too.
Against Bolg, don’t lose too much unit cause Azog more harder.
If you meet with friends, they never fight with you if your hero is enough hard (units, Att, Def, other artifacts) (Bilbo, Bombadil, Elrond, Butterfly, Saruman(1st) Galadriel, Beorn, Laketown, Bard(1-2), Dain, Thranduil)

You have 53 days to Durin’s Day (2/4/5), but nothing happen if you late. And if you more faster you can arrive on 2/3/6 to Erebor.
You need to choose very good your 2nd skills, and spells, artifacts before every fights.
Have a good journey in Middle-Earth

I have to agree with others here. It lacks too much detail.

I can't say I'm a map creator, but I've played the game since 1999 and have been playing with the Map Editor since I got my first PC in 2005 and I know that creating maps is definitely not an easy business and takes a lot out your time in order to flesh out every little detail. I've tried making some, but never really finished one due to being overwhelmed by the need for details.

My main complaint is why there is so much empty space on the map? The surface map's playable area takes up roughly about 30% of the overall space of the map and that just feels like a huge waste.

I suggest you expand your story beyond Hobbit and build the rest of Middle Earth as some sort of side quest.

Also, I saw a few places where there are guards and about 20-30 of them standing next to each other... couldn't you put up a garrison there instead?

I hope you put some more work into the map, because it definitely has the potential, but lacks the polishing.

To put things into perspective, the map feels like an MMORPG where you have a really small playable world and only the main quest and even that feels really rushed and sloppy. Usually MMOs try to have massive worlds, filled with content, side quests and such in order to attract and keep players, think of your map as an MMO and try to expand upon it as much as possible.

Especially with the possibility of creating your own NPCs in H3 that look like anything (Magi, Halfling, etc.) and even maybe with HotA,which gives a lot of new options for quests.

I’m not a map maker. But I love the Hobbit story. First I made the battle against Smaug, after against Azog. That was very cool so I decided I make the whole map.

And I needed to choose. I made a map with a new story with lots of quests or I made the (almost) original story. My choice was the second.

This map made for people who like Middle-Earth stories and want to play it. There are lots of LotR maps but I didn’t find Hobbit. (except one what is not so good to play)

There are lot’s of „quests” in the map. Like what the best 2nd skills, artifacts to fight. How can you kill trolls, wolfriders, Goblin-king, etc without lose any units. The big battles (Sauron, Smaug, Azog) near impossible. To do it before Durin’s day is an another quest

I think these are more important for a M-E fun than a beautiful map where I can clicking a lot.

You can download here the big battles (saves), and if you like it maybe you play the full game.
