Fortress Primary skills choices
How do you build your Fortress heroes? Do you boost the already high natural defense or do you pick attack when visiting Arenas and Battle academy?

With Tazar, I try to give him more attack than defense.

Attack is pretty much superior to defence anyway, (2x powerful) so I would definetly try to get attack when possible if we're talking about beastmasters. I don't have any good tips for Witches thou. Aside from Andra, just stay away from them

It's better to get some attack points from camps and arenas, as Fortress will have high defense.

I always pick whichever is lowest, for a balanced build.
Both Offense and Defense is important to me.

1. I avoid to play Fortress at all cost precisely cause I prefer attack to defense and Witches are terrible.
2. When using a beastmaster, or even a ranger, I go full attack everytime.
3. When using attack oriented classes like barbarians and captains, I will choose defense about half of the time but only if I already have much more attack (like 6 or 8 mid level, 15 to 20 close to the 99 limit).

With Fortress, against most factions you will not move first. Since the opponent is going to hit you first, it is not a bad idea to go all defense with a beastmaster.

Yeah, I thought so.
Survive first hit then outlive the opponent sounds like fun tactic, especially with some good expert water spells.

The bonus from Offense skill is added to attack, not multiplied. That's why Offense skill works very well with defensive heroes.

Attack is better.
Fortress is actually all about creeping speed. Their lvl 6 and 7 units are weak but easier to build and purchase. On many maps its possible to build Castle + Wyverns + Hydras + upgrade Lizardman week 1 which allows you to have really strong army week 2 day 1. On top of that Beastmasters (fortress might heroes) have really high chance to learn earth magic. So you should use your strong week 2 army + mass slow to creep the rich middle zone and then immediately attack your opponent for game.
