tbs-strategy-shift...

A fraction of my idea for the evolution of the series, shared in posts above, was moving away from faction or alignment-specific consecration and granting marauding heroes a broader function across the adventure map. Might heroes and Magic heroes, not just as proteges of their starting town, but as more independent players across the scenario/universe. The mechanics date back to HoMM1 and have already evolved considerably(as in HoMM5). The morale penalty would have to go, so as not to handicap heroes' standing armies. It's not a huge transformation, but it does require another round of tbs evolution, beyond children's toy/game.

Mm, I'm not so keen on ditching morale penalties. After all, I'd hardly expect your average human soldier to be perfectly okay fighting alongside a vampire or demon.

It is a cognitive challenge of sorts, but I would rather be a vampire/demon without a militant/humanistic morale/motiv.

Morale is really cool. Historically it was extremely important (cavalry relies on troops' fear of horses - intact infantry in formation will tear cavalry apart). Game-mechanically it also introduces interesting hero stats - not just attack and defense but also the ability of the hero to ensure troops can fight enemy troops with a fear-based attack. So you then have troops that cause mild amounts of fear, like cavalry, and ones that cause a great deal of fear, like dragons and behemoths and death knights.

Considering morale and motivation are only humane feelings, that is.

In my perception, vampires are proud and intelligent beings, not really concerned with morale. They are eternal, powerful.

Demons are different in that regard. They are bound to rage, most of the times, which requires motivation and bloodlust to overwhelm enemies. You can also expect deception, fear, cowardice from them, not caring leaving allies behind.

Depending on how humans see vampires and demons, it would indeed affect their will and mind, or at least their tranquility of fighting alongside other humans, which they are familiar with. If they see vampires as predators and demons as enemies, even when fighting by their side, there will be always some insecurity and fear. Unless it would have to be proven, i.e., after some battles together, morale penalty could drop because troops would trust each other.

Dwarves and elves (if included) would likely have similar reactions.

What really stifles inter-faction armies however is creature-focused faction abilities.

what about zombies??...

The discussion becomes more challenging as as the theme of lore/mythology is pitted against game-play. It is a similar issue to the contest between HoMM3 and HoMM5.

My perspective is tilted to the game-play side(HoMM5!).

Well strangely enough, HoMM3 has almost no lore WRT what we're told in game.

1995-2020

Between town-faction-alignment-mythology-ideology-(maybe even species!); in both real-life and f-a-n-t-a-s-y, there should be improvement over the centuries.

And HoM&M is already a quarter of a century old!

Morale and luck should be normal statistics. So we would have 6 instead 4. All can give example +- 4% chance to effect. Deads  have no morale, elementals no luck, machines have no both to ballance.

I think Luck should not be controlable. Like "Spell Cast Luck", what the hell is that? Luck should be a global force without means to tinker with it. If you tinker with luck, it ceases to be unpredictable to be likely.

Yes spell can boost luck eg. 3 or 5 points. But always should be chance to lost chance.

There is no Western monopoly on human growth/development, or the human condition. This may be my distinctly Romanian(non-Russian Slavick) contribution.

Actually, I am most receptive and thankful for the French contribution! (HoMM5!)

But different and distinct from neighbouring states. And there is still no Western Europe monopoly of things. It is childish. It can also be chauvinistic! I say this from a distinctly American perspective!

There have been others as well. Like Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961. And currently the extremely agile tennis superstar Novak Djokovic. And maybe even me, a human being of mixed Balkans/European/American ancestry/descent(Dobruja, Romania and California, US).

Just edit your post. Stop this double-triple-posting everywhere you need to add second thoughts. You can unmark the stealth edit, if you need it to bump back up into view.

Cluttering the thread with 2 or 3 posts in a row makes it look messy and creates unecessary pages even, specially quoting yourself, which looks rather foreboding.

That's not a difficult fix, if you will.

In terms of luck, one part of it I'd like to do away with is the one associated with learning secondary skills. Instead of what we have in H3/5, I'd very much like to see the ability to learn new skills removed when levelling up, instead replaced by far more Universities, Witch Huts and secondary-skill focussed Seer's Huts.

Heroes 3!

Anything is better than getting swamped by Heroes 3 players/fan replies... This whole forum is better than that and can actually even make HoMMVIII happen - hopefully/eventually!

Thanks for all the posters out there! They do more benefit than harm in advancing the series!

Novak Djokovic was disqualified, but he is still a super-hot light-sports megastar. I like him!!!
