Castle Tower Damage

My apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. If it has, just point me in the right direction.

What determines the amount of damage done by castle arrow towers? I'm referring to the full castle/three turret arrangement.

Damage seems to very widely, no matter the type (Stronghold, Necropolis, etc.). Right-clicking on a tower brings up the standard ATK 10 for the castle, and then the damage range for each tower. There are times when the damage done exceeds the range given, and this can happen to the same unit type in my army across different castles.

This isn't a complaint---it is what it is---but I'd just like to know the math behind the calculations.

On a sidenote, I've seen several discussions about "best/favorite" artifact, but it's hard to argue the value of The Elixir of Life when doing castle assaults....

I'm not sure exactly how it's calculated, but the more buildings you have in the town, the more damage arrow towers do.
I think the only buildings that does'nt add damage, are Mage Guild upgrades. (level 2-5)
So don't come and say Shipyards are useless in towns.

I'll have to take notice of the number of structures built...never thought of that...

This is rather crazy (from the link posted):

"Creatures with Air Shield take additional damage"
"Heroes with Armorer skill take additional damage"

Double damage, in fact. Yes, it's listed as a bug, but I don't have  Horn of the Abyss installed. I don't use Air Shield anyways, as there are far too many other spells needed when assaulting...

"Secondary Skills, Artifacts etc. (especially Archery or Artillery) don't have influence to the damage"

I take this to mean that if there is a defending hero present, attributes and equipment carried don't affect damage, yes?

Well,
to be honest, that bug with dealing more damage to units which are under Air Shield or which have armorer skill... It's a shame that the developers haven't deleted it yet.

Armorer/Air Shield bug is fixed in HotA. (or was it HD Mod?, I can't remember.)

Doesn't a hero's Attack stat raise the damage? Never checked it.

Even so, it'd been fixed in both HD+ mod and HotA.

It's not a fix but a fail. Castle towers being useful in late game is a good thing.

If something doesn't work as intended, and requires a fix/patch, that qualifies as a bug in my book.

So what exactly does HotA do to change the mechanics of towers? I don't have that mod installed, so I have no idea.....

Nothing. They fixed obvious bugs. Now towers work as desribed.

For this very reason I think they introduced the Attack skill dependency. I think the formula was in a changelog some time ago.
