Not true yet in Finland, we still have a fully functioning army. Not sure how effective against Ivan, but for sure we ain't trained to give up.
Unless next EU directive comes around and tells us to, in that case we will self-lubricate our holes ready for invasion. Can't say no to Dictator Merkel.

For instance, the United Kingdom is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy -'tis both a democracy and a monarchy. Mutatis mutandis that was the case of Austria-Hungary...

I detect contexts. When you set monarchy as some kind of “golden age” I know it’s not because of a symbolical monarchy, that is not on the table. You wish upon some nostalgic “goldan era” to whine about our “troubled times.”

yeah, i didn't get that either. i thought hitler screwed up fighting the russians; too many fronts for not much to gain, imo. the negative outweighed the good. i also don't get why the german army in his scenario would travel as far as mid-africa. that'd be spreading your troops way too thin, while your enemy surrounded you back home. not strategic at all; i wouldn't think.

His idea is that the army would be bolstered by the fresh recruits from annexed countries, kinda like Soviet Russia did during their push back of the "master race" in the second half of the war.
And this brings it's own set of problems. Desertion primarily. One of the worst desertion examples come from a war 9 years prior to WW1, the Russo-Japanese war, on the russian side. Back in the day, a conscript in the Russian army had to serve 25 years. And this system had it's own flaws.
And not to mention the logistical effort of the author's proposed scenario. That one is the biggest elephant in the room.
