Look at this. The far right gain big traction in France before they do in Germany. Looks like there is some respect to their history left in Germany while in France even Macron honoured Petain for his merits in WW1.
Let's hope it will not be Le Pen because she will be the end of the EU and (if Trump comes back in 2024) might be the end of the resistance vs. the looming fascist/autocratic Axis Moscow-Beijing-Delhi-Brasília.
Orbán reelected and now this.
Le Pen stands for blaming the weakest (migrants, refugees, unemployed,..) instead of aspiring while giving the owning class even more freedom.
She stands for hostility towards science and for a time long gone.
Her voters accuse the "established political class" of being selfish, corrupt and for-profit yet when they vote for her the motivation is short-term personal profit.
Having to wear masks in a grocery store makes poeple go ballistic. Dictate of the moment: sloth and wilfulness.
"Do not put up with anything! Object!"
People get more selfish by the day. It's our new individualism, our new self-fulfilment. "Don't trust anyone, they're all for-profit. Nothing is to be had for free. Why grant someone 1,50 € if it could be yours? Begrudge!"
I thought "laissez faire" was Frech.
Is there some issue with the space-time-continuum? Feels like we are close to warping back 100 years.

Well, yeah, when I said french never learn, it meant what you do there, you parrot what mainstream predicates over and over, so people vote the right way.
Le Pen/far-right, Orban/bad, ChinaRussia/fascist, EU/good, if only it was that simple.

Where exactly did I parrot, where did I say those things?
Show me the mainstream source where I copy&pasted my text from.
Being right-wing populist is easy. You don't need to lose too much sleep over election programmes. People don't care about content, it's all about emotion and presentation.
Just take the opposite point of view of "the mainstream". But be aware, "the mainstream opinion" might evolve over time. Be sure to adjust what you are opposing to. Don't take the opposite stance if the mainstream opinion gets too mainstream. You want to be voted for after all.
Go with the mainstream opinion but say you had known about this a lot earlier and you would have taken way more appropriate measures.
23,1%. Hasn't Le Pen grown too mainstream now?

Le Pen backed Russian annexation of Crimea, and shocker, she was also funded by Putin at that time. Quid Pro Quo.
But seems like she is trying to cut her ties with Russia, speaking of war crimes of Putin and even welcoming Ukrainian refugees.
Lets see if the French people believe her change of heart.

Fake news, if only people had the curiosity to check what's behind the buzz from mainstream, there would be less ignorance worldwide.
A referendum took place, people from Crimea voted at 97% for being annexed to Russia. This is the only thing she said, which is the truth.
As for Putin "funding" her, the claim is ridiculous, is based on nothing concrete and the whole accusation intentionally skips the anti-democratic ban she had to overcome, having its campaign loan refused by all french banks. While making a 34% score at presidential elections.
The Russia haters are up nowadays.

Your support for full blown authoritarian leader like Putin, who suppresses ALL opposition to him and controls ALL of their media, is appalling. I am pro democracy.
Good luck convincing the French people to join you in their thinking and abandoning their core values - "liberty, equality, fraternity"
Also I can but laugh at the irony of you using the term fake news, when you do nothing but parrot the Kremlin official propaganda. lol

The referendum took place AFTER the Russian invasion with Russian forces seeing to "everything staying in the right place".

Quote: A referendum took place, people from Crimea voted at 97% for being annexed to Russia. This is the only thing she said, which is the truth.
The problem is that referendum was questionable from legal point of view. Even the very number (97%) looks as a fake.
Let's organize referendums in the whole world then, and look in what countries people do really want to live

So am I. So you should agree the electoral system is flawed. Very few french citizens want Macron or Le Pen, yet we will end up with one or the other, nothing feels wrong?
There is ways to improve the electoral system, mathematically proved to make it more democratic, yet it's not happening.
Another thing I am deeply is pro peace. And it's not by contributing to the escalation of tensions that you avoid war. Diplomacy requires dialogue, even with the worst of foes, or rather especially with the worst of foes. In the end of the day, it's the civilians that pay the price, and the price of war is the worst of horrors we can get.

I wonder what "very few" means to you, when one ends with 28%, that's about 10 millions people, the other with 24% and that's 8 millions.
The electoral system is fine, what you don't like in it?

Yep, agree with Sal here. In parliamentary elections, people elect MANY candidates and there are different approaches (proportional, majoritarian, open lists, etc.) and there's room for discussion on which option is more or less democratic. But presidential elections are basically selecting a SINGLE candidate, and making it two rounds as in most of the countries looks logical and democratic. It kind of sucks when in round 2 you end up with two candidates and you don't support either, but well, this is what you got from democratic round 1. People often use the same voting approach when selecting a leader of the team for example. What are the other options?
Good luck to France for selecting candidate which would be better for the French people.

Abstention/blanks get something close to 30%, so you can lower these numbers. France is about 67 millions people... Ok maybe not "very few" but still few.
Here is a video explaining what is wrong with the current electoral system, that will save me writing a wall of text. It's in French, but English subs are also available.

Abstention is another thing, I observed the raw numbers, ten millions + 8 millions is not "a few".
In your video, It doesn't say what is wrong, but how it could go wrong. It is true that minor candidates sharing same ideology can create some splitting score for the major one, but that's the game - its up to the major one to take the parameters into consideration and make sure the minor ones don't take him out.
We had a perfect example with Le Pen/Zemmour, a split score would have placed Melenchon in second position, yet Le Pen did a good campaign, Zemmour a bad one, so finally justice was served.
His example with Jospin is on spot, for him something went wrong because of "minor candidates", while in reality the shallowest of candidates was eliminated. His prediction that Jospin would have won the second round is based on nothing concrete. Let's remember that those voting Le Pen have answered to all polls that they vote Jospin, in fear for being ostracized. Then they voted Le Pen, demolishing all predictions for both rounds.
The guy also eludes the core problem imo, not only in elections but also in the general education and market of ideas, which is the ostracization and condemnation of all ideas considered as "reactionary", "retrograde", and "nationalistic" (often checking all three categories). Thus all politics are standardized, left wing/right wing, you get same result.
But then it is also true that most people vote for charisma, not for a program. Presidential programs, as presented today, require too much specialization and high IQ. And is only about money, while other existential concepts - easier to understand and processed, are just ignored.
