What version should I play
I haven't played H4 much due to the instable release version (H4 is the only game I ever brought back to the shop). I re-bought it years later but eventually it stopped working in Win10 and my Win11 machine doesn't even have a CD drive 
So I bought it on GoG and it works, but I feel I need the Equilibris mod for a less frustrating gaming experience. I don't really need many modifications, I'm fine just with the changes to the resurrection skill and titans speed increase seems nice. And ofcourse the bugfixes.
There is a version 3.51 of Equilibris that is appropriate. Unfortionately it seems to be 20 years old. Will that one work with the GoG version? If no, what version would I need. The later versions change too many things for my taste, I'd rather play the original H4.
Any advice?

Yes, equilibrius 3.51 works fine with the GoG version, I'll give you a step by step on how to get your H4 setup working:
-Download clean H4 to a new folder on your desktop
-Download Equilibrus from: https://heroes3wog.net/heroes-4-the-equilibris-mod-download/
-Unzip the files to a separate new folder
-Find heroes4_sfx.exe and unzip that into your clean H4 folder
-Run Equilibris v3.51.exe and install to your H4 folder
Done.
Next I would recommend getting the H4 enhancement mod, that is the biggest current ongoing mod with regular updates. Really easy to get just go to:

Unzip and plop the files into your H4 folder. Make sure to drop by the thread on it and give Albyx some feedback.
Finally we want to make sure we have the HD mod, makes the game run much smoother and look much better on modern hardware.

Simply extract the files to your H4 folder. Upon starting the game, go to the settings and check the 1920x1080 option.
And you are all set to play the greatest game in the history of videogames. Click on whatever version you want to run: Black shield with the skull for original H4, blue shield with Order scale for Equi, and Green shield with Nature tree for H4EM.
Normally I'd recommend you create a second clean H4 folder and install Ultimate there so you can play around with that, but...yea... Not going to comment further other than saying: "Nimo, best of luck buddy, I enjoyed bantering about H4 with you."

All equi versions works the same but may have some Bugs. 3,51 is stable. But we have now more mods than equi! You can try!
