Ballista damage should be based on what?

all attack (as is)
some attack + a little defense
equal attack + defense
higher of attack or defense
all four primary skills
only on secondary Artillery skill (=no primary skill)
we should be allowed more ballistas, etc.

The Ballista is very hard to balance, since it scales differently from creatures.

The number of creatures increases proportionally with the number of turns played. Primary stats don't. So in order to keep the ballista in line with creatures, it is better to make it scale with time, rather than stats. It doesn't really matter in games that end in week 3, but on maps that take 6 months or more to complete, the difference is considerable.

To the power of sqrt3 (^1.73) of hero level scales nicely.

But would we be ruining the intention of the designers for artillery to power peak in the early-mid game, on creature/resource-scarce maps?

Of course hero lvl plus skill. Worst thing is that ballista HP are always 250... Very easy to destroy. It should rose too.
Eg. Hero lvl x 20. It gives 650 hp for 20 lvl hero...
Second option. Hero can use 1 ballista for each lvl. So it gives 20 bal for 20 lvl. Its perfect solution...
May be combination both solutions too...

Ballistae! You buy 10 ballistae x 250hp does a total of 2500hp, for example, and then damage is from WoG script.. One yet! Ballista is a magical immune.. You can't cast a Bless, Cure, etc Maybe only Armageddon can destroy ballista..

Artillery skill - basic 100% damage, advanced 200% damage, expert 300% damage, SS Artillery also has arrow towers with double damage. A new artifact is Gold Arrow gives to Artillery and arrow towers can shoot extra times.

H4? 30hp, 15 native terrain movement i.e. very slow.. and 2 speed..

"The Ballista is a very competent level 2 ranged attacker, but it almost suicide taking it with you on the adventure map due to its abysmal movement. It is an effective shooter in sieges due to its no obstacle penalty, and its no range penalty which make it ideal to attack creatures in towers. They are also mechanical, meaning they are resistant to spells such as poison and plague, a useful ability against a death army."

Developed at H4.. The only way!.. Ballista is useless in H3 from noob, average and hard-core players.. Helpless PRO or WoG script (improved ability).. JVC saw ballistae belonged to creature..
