Ok one-horned creature looks cute too.. Are we gentle? When we kill the legion one-horned creature? I don't know about horror story.. Ok girl thing.. And green serpent looks like a Serpent Fly.. Other ok, IMO

The green serpent looks like a couatl from Might and Magic 8, I'd say, just, well, green. Very much a positive sign after the great disappointment that is the supposed "dark elves".

Lexiav interview with the developers.



Recap:

* General

** The developers apologized for focusing on multiplayer so hard in previous interviews and promised that there will be a robust singleplayer campaign.

** It will not require you to be always online.

** The team working on Olden Era started as just ten people and now consists of a little less than fifty. Ubisoft works on cinematics, localization, music, ect, but not development of the game itself. Ubisoft has given them a lot of creative freedom.

** The game will not require U-Play in early access. It is intended to be released through U-Play, but it will not be a requirement. It's up to Ubisoft whether the final game will require it or not.

* Campaign

** The game will have cinematics but no in-engine cutscenes. There will be dialogue boxes with non-linear conversations.

** Campaigns feature different balancing than single scenarios. Heroes level differently in campaigns, and certain buildings will function differently.

** Campaigns not only have non-linear narratives, but there will be different types of maps like exploration adventure missions as well as standard duel-type maps. Expect more details in the future as more of the campaign is revealed.

** No plan for a campaign editor currently. If there is a strong demand, they may add one.

* Multiplayer

** Hotseat will be available.

** Making everything perfectly balanced isn't the main goal. To make things feel more like competitive H3, factions will be balanced around town trading/drafting and other player-regulated balance methods. Unfun things will be adjusted, but balance will otherwise be hands-off. Early access will be very important for determining where each faction falls.

** The game will have league-based online multiplayer (silver, gold, platinum, ect).

** The devs are looking for ways to shorten online matches, since it's hard to play a 10 hour match with people. It is important that none of the strategy is streamlined or removed. Classic mode will still be available for long matches.

** If a battle with a neutral creature has no losses for you, you won't have to click through the menu and it'll just auto-resolve.

** Unfrozen has plans to host official tournaments. No outright confirmation, however.

* Creatures

** No chance-based special abilities. Damage range and morale/luck add enough randomness.

** Creatures have energy that they gain over time, which is used as a resource to use active abilities. Creatures have multiple abilities. Some abilities are once-per-battle. Choice is important. More will be revealed in a future dev blog.

** Temple's tier 7 creature has the ability to copy buffs on friendly creatures and give them to other creatures, making creature buffs more important for the faction. Buffs are Temple's theme, but not factional ability.

** It is important that alt upgrades feel different. The differences will be easier to balance than H5 since this is a core feature and not added in DLC.

** Minotaurs have their classic positive morale ability. One minotaur upgrade has a self-buff that makes them ignore incoming attacks while the other gains damage when taking damage and can further boost morale.

** Infernal Trogs hit harder, while Toxic Trogs damage enemies that damage them. Toxic Trogs were specifically designed as 1-stack cannon fodder.

** Names are not yet final. The name of Albino Dragons was addressed -- the idea is these are Black Dragons that grew up in the deepest caves without sunlight. The devs acknowledge that the name was not received well and are looking for something more descriptive.

** The devs more or less shut down the theory that there are alternate tier 7 creatures in towns. (It's possible that some of the speculated alt 7s people have spotted are the neutral tier 8s.)

** Lots of different types of dragons. Faerie Dragons are confirmed, but they are lore-accurately small.

* Artifacts

** Artifacts will have both simple and complex effects, and a lot of variety. Artifacts have set bonuses like H5, but not combination artifacts like H3.

** Artifacts can be upgraded through a yet-to-be revealed method. One artifact can be upgraded indefinitely (sounded like a specific trait of that artifact).

* Adventure Map

** Caravans are not currently planned.

** You can transport armies and artifacts through a new building called an Outpost, which allows you to deposits units and artifacts and retrieve them from a different Outpost on the map.

** There will be adventure map spells.

* Heroes

** Lost/retreated heroes will appear in a third slot in the tavern instead of as one of the two you can buy, and will not be overwritten when a new week starts.

* Graphics

** Optimization was very important so that the game can be played on pretty much any PC. The graphic style was chosen to support as many computers as possible.

** There are three styles of fog of war that you can choose between -- grey clouds, stars, and a map being drawn.

** It's important that you don't have to rotate the camera to clearly see things. Rotating maps in previous games caused confusion.

* Lore

** The devs have played Might & Magic VIII (the one on Jadame) and are taking the story into account.

** Ubisoft has plans for the Might & Magic franchise going forward. Unfrozen decided to make a prequel to avoid being influenced by it.

** The devs love the sci-fi stuff in Might & Magic, but the campaign will only touch on it in an "open to interpretation" kind of way.

** No Sandro. The devs want to avoid fanservice; most beloved characters will not be present since the game takes place in the past on a different continent.

What a weird decision.

Kind of feels like people like Lexiav (hardcore "pro" players who don't care about lore or gamefeel) will love this game, but I wonder about everyone else.

I disagree with that argument, I think it would be more anti-lore if they had Gem and Crag Hack and whatnot running around. Sticking to their guns and obeying the new setting is very much going against people who just recognize the names and don't care.

Do you know Settlers? Always the same design, even if the graphics are better.. Not sure about the stories heh.. Yeah Dark elves.. Now I'm thinking that Gem and Crag Hack are already too old.. Will Catherine come back? I don't think so.. But HoMM 1-8 are messed up like Halloween III.. H4 was a new mechanic, but story continued.. Said Catherine is pensioner with Gelu.. Then H5 was different, etc

I like what I'm reading.

However, out of principle, I might not buy the game if it is tied to dumb UPlay (Ubisoft Connect). I got burned once, I won't do it again.

Ubisoft has plans for the franchise going forward, meaning what? Are they going to continue with Ashan? Are they going to make other Might and Magic RPGs? Is that alleged open world game being made by the Shanghai Ubisoft branch still a thing?

I don't feel like not having Sandro means anything wrong with the lore of this game. Overuse of iconic characters for the sake of having a hook with the fans is way worse in my opinion. If it doesn't make sense to have Sandro so be it, we just need to have other interesting stories and characters that might become iconic by themselves.



After reading this bio I'm getting strong Ashan vibes from this Temple faction. Religious light adoring zealots... So is it Ashan's Haven all over again? I don't think Castle/Knight town in Enroth ever had that theme. I wonder why go back to Enroth at all then.
It appears that it will be my least favorite faction if things go this route.

I think it means that the chance of receiving an additional action increases with each morale point, not that the amount of additional actions received increases with each morale point. So you have higher morale and a higher chance to trigger 1 additional action.
Probably bad wording of the description leads to missinterpretation but I'm not native so can't say for sure. Might be just a case of language ambiguity

Not sure why I dislike Lexiav, but I do. Might be that competitive multiplayer people simply annoy me.

As for the updates,not sure if I like creatures gathering energy to use abilities. If there's a way to harvest the energy, it could easioy be exploitable by spamming 2-3 abilities per creature every turn. Dunno how this fits with heroes' game design.It feels like they want to turn creatures into mini moba characters with active abilities which adds to the competitive multiplayer they constantly babble about.
