Great interview!
I like very much the already incorporated approach for the past 4 years to reach for people's Heroes emotion. Very good strategy.
Another thing is the data collection, it's a great idea. They should run some AI tools against Heroes series from 3 to 7 FAQ's to collect the view of some very dedicated guys that really understood the hidden gems in the gameplay and find out the most liked aspects in every sequel. In almost all FAQ people usually show their respect and understanding of the strong/weak points of every game. FAQs are written to highlight the best things in a certain game and help a lot if properly analysed. And they are completely different source of information than fan opinions which are almost always shallow and often show random frustration. These forums and GOG forums contain some very valuable points of view as well. I am almost sure (because I ran it against certain keywords) that such an analysis would show how good the unrelated to towns spell system of H3 was, the beauty of the alignment binded H4 and H5 spell system was and how most people think that the 7 elemental spell system was dull and uninteresting (and why). There are some hidden gems that were liked in M&M 10 like the unique skills of promoted classes that were actually functioning like top spells with restricted access (Only the High Druid had top earth spell, not the other classes that could take GM earth, or the Fire Priest with own high fire spell, or how different the combat classes were played after promotion with their unique skills). Of course 4 spell schools like in H5 are too few, so a renewed H4 spell system with a 6th school like Spirit in-between Death and Order could work. The AI tools showed that veteran players were complaining about the lack of damage spells in some schools like Life and Death. I am not sure if Life from a Lore point of view should have even one damaging spell, but Death could have an unique spell or even ability which when activated does damage depending on the number of curses enemy units have. So the main purpose of Death to raise undead and place curses is preserved. In the same way Chaos can keep it's elemental Spells that are depending on enemies resistances but Order could have some Arcane spells that are different and which are cast against the lowest elemental resistance of a unit.  Maybe the only interesting thing in MM9 was how the different spells had mixed skill demands. And one of the most powerful spells like Hypnotize or Armageddon could use last levels of Order and Spirit skills or Chaos and Death to be cast. (The most remarks against the H6 and 7 spell system were that all spell schools had almost the same spell types - damage, blesses, curses, terrain changing spells. Which almost destroyed the differences and the borders between them and a player actually could achieve very similar results with whatever spell school they pick). Even blesses could be differentiated to fit a certain  theme - in Heroes 4 Chaos had some of the best blessing spells - like cats reflexes or first strike. The moto "Magic comes with a price" fits ideally into Chaos magic. So every bless spell in Chaos could have an immediate or a postponed negative effect. Like Haste with some kind of weakness after haste expires, or frenzy with immediate burning condition, or first strike with defense loss, or a huge critical strike increase with loss of retaliation.  

Actually the most interesting and well received aspects in the every game of the series are the ones that authors discuss in length and in depth in their FAQs.

AFter the flop that was H7 and various Gacha games I completely gave up hope of every receiving a new Heroes game.

and now not only got announced, but honestly looks pretty great too?!

I'm cautiously optimistic....

@in Heroes 4 Chaos had some of the best blessing spells - like cats reflexes or first strike@

But not a Vampire.. Thus life drain.. Cats Reflexes is a pretty OP to Vampire returns to a normal number quickly.. Interesting misleading spells, thus Chaos spells for friendly creatures.. Dragon Strength is also OP to Black Dragon (and Mega Dragon), if enemy used Black Ring.. No wonder Chaos-Death-Nature for Asylum showed OP.. No Order, but Noble, etc It's also misleading.. It Chaos vs Order background.. Not easy to guess/know strategy.. I love illusion in a game..

Heroes 4 had some interesting spells, but unfortunately, only a handful of them were usable outside of combat.

It was in Factory town in HOTA also! But there you can build both if you can.
No Vampire in Necro but its in the description of the town? (And there is a brown-bone dragonish thing too) . Divine Shooting Archer seems Tier 7 too? But there is Seraph or Angel there too?
At Dungeon no Manticore-s yet may be other Tier 7?
We will see.

They had a devblog on steam.

They said they are HoMM fans, made a demo to showcase to Ubisoft and that's how the game was greenlit.

The Game is to be a mix of old and new (factions, aesthetics, mechanics).

And I'll just paste the most important stuff:

But Do You Have Anything, Like, New New?
Well, maybe not “new new”, but here are the features that we feel make Olden Era distinct from previous HoMM games:

-A stronger focus on making factions feel distinct. New “Faction Laws” are perk trees tied to your starting faction. So even if you conquer more castles, change the main hero and hire neutral troops, your beginner choice of faction will matter until the end.

-Stronger gameplay themes within factions as well. Doesn’t mean you’ll have to go “pure” with one faction, but their troops will synergize.

-A non-linear campaign! It’s structured somewhat differently from previous games as well, stay tuned for more.

-Online ladder with matchmaking and player profiles. Just press a button and dive in.

-A new fast-paced Arena mode, basically a draft for Heroes. A match in Arena takes like 10-15 minutes.

-Features requested by the competitive community: replays and observer mode for casting.

-New win conditions.

-New Grail system that makes it actually buildable.

-Balancing based on statistics and actual numerical data.

-A new system of learning spells that alleviates its random core for a price.

From what we know there are levels 1-7 all with alternative upgrades, no alternative units. Alt upgrades are both available once you build the upgrade building and you can convert your units back and forth from one upgrade to the other (for some cost I pressume).

We can see vampire mansion in the necro town screenshots and videos so I'm quite sure he is there.

The whole dungeon line-up has already been reveald in the last Q&A and there is no manticore in it.

I Know what you written all but, it seemed if there was a bone dragon like creature in some battlemap pictures and on the line up than with Vampire its not 7 but 8 kind of unit. Also at Temple with that Divine Archer (If its not a really different alter tier 7 upradge visually) also a machine One Eye thing on battlefield on a screenshot for Temple.
Also there are many possible Sylvan seemed tier 7 unit what leaked. Fairy dragon, Phoenix, Gold dragon may be. We will see of course these sometimes just speculates on tiers.

And it seems that they will do a H6-7-H4 mix of magic schools here. Dark-Light-Primal seems 95% also Order or Chaos (Destructive) magic.

Well they did say there are lv 8 units. Nobody said they cant be faction alined.
Kind a WoG style super-unit
That would actually make me happy. Except the undead, neutrals had rarely some synergy with a faction.
