Poll Question: Buffing Learning skill?
As we all know, Learning is one of the very worst skills in H3.
At most a hero with Expert Learning, will be 1 level above a hero without Learning! Not to mention you use 3 level-ups to get Expert Learning and you want to get Expert Learning ASAP to get the maximum XP. This can ironically delay more important skills like Earth Magic, Wisdom and Logistics though...
So my question is:
How do you want Learning to be?

Learning is an obvious outsider, if we speak in general. It's worse than Eagle Eye even in a long run. Though if you play a competitive game (a tournament) with the goal to max XP of your hero, it's a must skill to have. Otherwise, it's useless, unless you are in desperate need of that +1 to a primary skill, and you want to get it as fast as possible. This applies to Knowledge foremostly, which may help your low-level heroes cast TP and DD earlier (it may be crucial if you plan to rush). On random maps and online games Learning looses even this application and becomes completely useless.

A unique way to buff Learning. You can get two levels of a chosen secondary skill 1/2/3 times per game at next level-ups. Say, you had learned Learning at lvl2, and at lvl3 you were offered Basic Logistics. With Basic Learning you get Advanced Logistics instead of Basic Logistics.

Learning for special maps and walkthough.. But last useful Learning in RoE, where are legion by AIs, thus 15% per legion, and then 15% x 10 legions do a total of 150%.. An example of special map showed legion of Azure Dragons, you get 15%, and then 10 x legion of Azure Dragons.. So you can't do 100%, when 10 times do 1000%.. Today the best Learning is from WoG.. And it by Heroes 4 came Stealth, but the same result that if map hasn't large number monsters.. When player learned Heroes, so player knows about more Learning.. When RoE by mapmakers.. Because I give an examples shortly.. I don't want to teach or explain you.. But I can tell you that Learning for might heroes.. Don't pick Eagle Eye.. One SoD campaign, Barbarian got Learning or Eagle Eye.. If played Heroes 4, so all might heroes have such skill.. Ok

Interesting idea, what happens if you start with Learning though?
Another idea could be that in addition to XP you get 1 or 2 random stats per level of Learning. If you start with Learning you already start with +1 or +2 stats.
I am sure you know of ways to buff this useless skill Alex.

It seems a good buff but only for small, medium maps. If I get secondary heroes with thirty, forty levels (like in XXL, Giant maps) it doesn't add much.
I still think the +1 to primary skills every X levels from Wog was a genius idea, the only problem is to define and implement the X.

I made it for one faction in Tew4 to work as sorcery, visiting power-ups from afar, higher level you are, bigger the possible radius is. Learning is fun to play with, because is factually worthless you you add to it what you want.

If for all (might & magic) powerups it would be a must have, maybe even too good for random/even maps.

Quote: Interesting idea, what happens if you start with Learning though?
When you have Learning you may press a special button while leveling-up (1/2/3 times per game for Basic/Advanced/Expert Learning respectively), if you like to learn two levels of mastery at once, excluding Learning itself. Say, you are offered Advanced Offense or Basic Logistics. With Learning, after pressing that special button, the choice is upgraded to Expert Offense or Advanced Logistics, so you effectively skip Advanced Offense or Basic Logistics. With Advanced Learning you can do this 2 times, with Expert Learning - 3 times per game. Heroes which starts with Learning might be offered Advanced Learning or some new skill. Of course, you cannot skip Advanced Learning, so you have one option - to learn Advanced mastery of that new skill (or just pick Advanced Learning). Nice and fresh touch, I think. Don't forget that learning percentages are also being applied as usual whenever a hero gets experience.
This somehow justifies having wasted 1/2/3 level-ups for Learning, as you effectively return those level-ups by skipping 1/2/3 levels of mastery of other, more useful skills. This idea is also original-design-friendly, for the main purpose of Learning stays the same - to level-up faster.
More examples.
Advanced Learning or Basic Earth Magic
turns to
Advanced Learning or Advanced Earth Magic
Advanced Earth Magic or Basic Eagle Eye
turns to
Expert Earth Magic or Advanced Eagle Eye
Expert Logistics or Advanced Scouting
turns to
Expert Logistics or Expert Scouting
If you don't want to learn two levels of mastery of any offered skills, you can just not press Learning button, choose a skill as usual and wait for the next level-up to see if there will be more powerful skills there.

Almost sounds like it is something you have already implemented or was it just an idea?

No, it's a brand new idea I haven't read about anywhere. Also it's pretty sound to level it could be implemented in the upcoming patch for HotA.

I can't believe nobody voted for an existing option.
15/30/45
(but I nerf all secondary skills a little)
One additional level is too little, 2 maybe tazar becomes viable, around 3 is a good fit
But you guys play with heroes to lvl 50+ so this does not apply
Adding complexity and you yourself won't play it..

@purerogue
Why did'nt you leave a vote for 15/30/45 then (I think 15/30/45 is also what I would use, if I were to use the original version of Learning.)
My games usually end around level 25 btw. (Or maybe 26-27 with Learning then.)

Yeah, 8*3 secondary skills is 24, but you start with some.. so 20-28 is good stopping range. Haven't had a chance with Hota's larger maps yet
I did.. just now

Yeah okay, I use 10 skills, 8 is simply not enough imo.
Oh and thanks for the vote.

Or decrease experience to make it last longer.
I'll ask you how to do that if I need more skill slots..

Probably you just need another experience curve? It's a shame a single chest may trigger a level-up now.

Simpler (though slightly stronger) could be that every time you take learning you also can upgrade any skill you already have to expert.
Alternatively, every time you take learning you pick another secondary skill. Or maybe Learning does nothing until expert, and then you pick an expert skill of your choice.

We're not Noobs we don't need the insta-gra from the first level up.
Start at level 0, lvl0->1 requires 2000 exp. .. beyond that one chest will not do
The curve at 20% beyond lvl.12 was going to say needed harder but I checked I have it preliminary at 17.5% so maybe harder is not always better, don't know - haven't played it yet

Heroes 5 made it the best skill in the game besides maybe logistics by giving you 50% more stats when leveling up.
