Whatever Stiven. Unless this tourney is still going after two weeks or so, I shall sign out.

No Djive. I'm gone for few weeks. And I sign out unless this tourney is still going when I've come back.

You mean "in case" and not "unless" I suppose.

Anyway, Sir Elric, I believe we should put some effort in trying to conclude the tourney. I'd suggest not accepting any more new comers at this point (leaving the two slots that are currently empty as empty) making this a 12 person tournament.

I'd also suggest to put some pressure on those that haven't played more than 0-2 matches to start and play games. Like posting a few times when they CAN play matches within the next week.

A suggestion Elric?

Can we have an "official room" so its eaiser to find people, for example "Out Numbered by Pwns"?  Also, for added convince, post their Zone handle by their names, where the results are?  Just some advice.

By the way, if you do carry it out, my hanlde is before_Iplay_b5

Djive plays TheJester: 2/0, 2/0.

Sir Elric:
The second game is quite frankly the strangest I've played on the zone. There seemed to be long delays in displaying moves, and also in relaying messages in the message window.

After about 52 moves (the move when I get the Queen), both me and TheJester has roughly a minute left to think. Then the system starts to act up with long delays being observed on both sides.

From my side I observe TheJester's time go out twice, and then suddenly a move is displayed and he gets a few seconds on his clock. Then the time goes out a third time, and the text time loss is displayed for Black (ThJester).

From his side TheJester observes my clock go out once and then later sees that I've got a few seconds left.

Sir Elric: Can you make a decision on this one?

I believe it's reasonable to declare this a win for me. At the time of the Zone beginning to act up, I'm a queen ahead and 40-60 seconds is plenty of time to finish a game with a Queen.

I'm leaving it to TheJester to plead his own case.

I'm attaching a picture of the final
situation.

Thunder: were you saying they played 1 minute games? I hope not here. With the delays we experienced it would be impossible.

[NOTE: We're not supposed to discuss decisions here, so if you feel it's the best then take this decision to E-mail instead. However, I gather that most player have seen or experienced something like this.]

My side of the story, 2nd game of the match

Sir Elric, This is what I observed on my side of the board:
As Djive said, we were both at about a minute left to think, and he prometed to a queen.  That left me down a queen, a knight, and a pawn, me only having a king left. I wasn't aware of any delays at the time he mentioned, but later on things got weird.
We were both at about 20 seconds left and it was his turn to move.  He used all of his time, and "None" seconds were left on his side of the clock.  Since he ran out of time, and I had insuficent mating material, the game is a draw, and thats what I typed in the dialouge box.  After a while, 42 seconds appear on his clock, and makes his move.  I panic, wondering whats going on, and make my move.  His time runs out again, and I point it out again, while I'm typing, his clock starts again a move is made.  Before I can react, my time runs out, and he has two seconds left on his clock, it shows that the game is over and I lose on time.  Both of us talk about what the heck is going on, and there were more delays, as we were talking in the dialouge box.

I do not say that I won or that I lost, but instead enter in "no points" for that match, or a draw.  The game was left not completed, and he would still have had to mate me in 20-40 seconds, and stalemate is a possibilty with a knight and a pawn on the board.

There, I've said my side.

What happened there just sounds like normal lag. Most chess clients use so called "time-stamps", to filter out time that is spent for the transmission of moves. You can download them for example at www.chessclub.com, www.freechess.org or www.chess.net. The gamezone seems to have such a filter, too. Thatīs probably why on Jesterīs side it looked like Djive had lost on time, while Djive was just waiting for Jesterīs move to arrive.

Yes, that was what happened Lews. And vice versa of course, since the lag was bilateral. (I waited for TheJesters moves and saw his time run out, the same way as he did.)

The transmission times were not normal lag (like 0.5-2 seconds) but huge, like 30 seconds or more for each move made.

The lag also applied for each of the messages we typed. (At least on my side.) I type a message and hit enter and then half-a-minute to a minute later I see the message I typed echoed in the message window.

I guess the knowledge to draw from this is that the opponent time is not out until you've got an echo printout of it in the game-window where the moves are displayed.

Okay, when I said "normal lag", I meant "normal terrible lag" . Youīre right, when you play blitz games on chess servers, itīs quite common that your opponent has zero or less than zero time on your clock, but you cannot flag him, because whatīs displayed about his clock on your monitor isnīt accurate until he has made (and transmitted) his move.

DECISION

P O I N T S - U P D A T E D

Djive vs Jester

I will have to award the game to Djive as she was in a win win situation, if it wasn't for the lag in the game she would have almost definately won the game.
Jester your statement of "We were both at about 20 seconds left and it was his turn to move. He used all of his time, and "None" seconds were left on his side of the clock." is what made my mind up, as with 20 seconds left and nothing but a king left for you I'm sure Djive would of checkmated you in that time if there had been no lag in the game.

I also had this lag when I played Sir Stiven but fortunately for us it was in the 2nd minute of the game so didn't really have much to do with the outcome.

I hope you are both happy with this decision.
My only other thought on the matter is if you are both happy to replay the game this is entirely up to you.

I plan to have tournament #2, if this one ever finishes!
The playing times will be more stringent.

For those of you who want to play some more chess you can play in mine. Some of you think that my original tournament was had strange rules and stuff. Well, with my new version. You can play anyone you want. You might play the same person 10 times. You don't HAVE TO PLAY EVERYONE, which is what gets hard to do in a tournament like this.

There aren't going to be any stringent times. Those who don't play very often won't have to be kicked out, but the best player in the tournament will win unless there are several other players who are playing far more actively. There is no limit on how many people can be in the tournament. Just go look and you will see.

...who would want to play another person 10 times, espically if said person "A" loses to said person "B" nine times in a row??

...rules and "stringent times" have to be made, otherwise is just chaos, and people won't play.  Prove it you say???  Since you started your post, only ONE, I repeat ONE result was entered played between yourself and Lews Therin.  I admit that this is your 2nd tourny, and I have no idea how your first tourny was handled and managed, but this current one seems to need more structure.
