easy win

1 1/2 weeks ago i offerd Andiangelslayer to play our mapmasters game. He couldnt play at that moment and said there where plenty of time before deadline. So, no problem. But after that i didnt see andi online for a week while i was on playing every day. Now , yesterday he log on to zone asks me why i didnt answer his email..Well, thats easy. I check my box every day and i receive 3-5 mails per day and i have not seen any mails from andi. Well ok. so i ask him if he can play today.. but nooooo . deadline out and andi is declared winner. No moderators have asked me bout anything or nothing. Andi told them that i havent replyed to his email. And therefor he win.. wow ... a fine lesson how to get an easy win...

The solution to this problem is ridiculously simple, play it addicts style. Award more points to higher ranks beaten to stop cherry pickers getting 1000 games in. Brackets style obviously dont work no more with decreased activity, so reward the players who make the time to play and play hard and play for ToH, not the players who log in once in 2 weeks to look for their game and dont mail. By the time the addicts rounds are done, you are either left with - 1. Players who have played lots of games to get to the top ranks and will have no prob playing a set final - 2. Good players who have gotten their point through beating good players, or - 3. A mix of the above two.

Either that or penalize compulsive tourney joiners if they dont play. Either way its clear that as activity decreases, so does the possibility of a successful bracketed tourney with set matches.

And yes tourney organizers, it would be easy to disregard this ramble, but do you have a better solution at the moment?

Now i dont have all the facts but this does indeed sound strange. All i know for sure is that andi hasnt been around much and i also saw morcoz ask andi for a game yesterday. Sure to mail each other is the thing to do but behavior like this seems to be isnt exactly helping now is it?

Me thinks morcoz should file an official complaint about this and get it to higher authorities. Because if mail sent then motorschaaf should have gotten a copy and then these things are to be discussed more.

And ive said it earlier when it was about divisions and ill say it again, do a list about what you must do when have been set up against another player in a bracketed tournament and if that game didnt got played look at emails and if both/one player did not follow the list of instructions basically give that player a harsh penalty. (50 - 100 points or make it succesive that the more not played games the higher penalty)

taking away points will cause more trouble than it is worth, too confrontational. will get more fights than a sack full of feral cats. stopping a player from joining later tournies if they dont play in prior ones is effective enough.

Hmmm... how about this one?

Everybody registering for a subtourney should pay something, maybe 50 ToH Points. Once they get their games played (win or lose), they'll get them back. I bet that'll work - I've seen enough players out there who would sell their grandma for 10 ranking points

death of brackets?

Rych has a good point

i've never seen bracketed work very well without lots of nagging and deadline extensions/passes. 7 passes for 8 games in Panic MM is evidence of that! Kings of Random almost 2 years ago at the height of H3, was a nightmare, and when it got down to last 4 ppl, it got cancelled lol. Not to mention the division games which were filled with passes to just get them through.

addicts doesnt require any planning from "lazy" players, but u do need a goal. nations didnt seem that focused, but the goal of map masters is very clear, be the best at that map/template. But as rych said, u really do need a way to weight the games based on player ranking otherwise it is noob kill time.

eg.
kill recruit, footman = 1 Map Master point
squire = 2 MM pts
baron = 4 MM pts
leg. = 8 MM pts

make it the exponential scale because this is really what it is like in difficulty. I can kill 10 footmen in a row without breaking into a sweat, but a single legionaire will be tough. I'm a baron, would you rather play me or 4 noobs?

Andi, Morcoz; better to send mail to Council about this; if u speak about these things on Comm ur up for a flaming. Hehehe

But I want to say again the 'Ozzie-pointsystem' is a good way to keep the tourneys interesting.
Maybe even make it more interesting and give points the TOH-way.

Hmm this won't work either imo.
A normal footman can't kill a leg (at least not on a regular bases).

Which means the lower ranked players don't have a change to get anywhere to begin with!@

A footman wouldhave to get 8 wins (in your example) to get the same as beating one leg. If they are that good they won't stay a footman in the first place. And what leg. would even play footman's? For the 1 MM point and possible loss of rank point.

Leg. normally don't play footman's anyways.
But perhaps this idea can be workd out some more.
Perhaps make two MM brackets. One for footman/squires and one for baron/leg.
I thing the tourney's will get more attention that way.
The comp. in MM is kind of heavy for footman of squires to participate in.

Just my 2 cents.

This point system sounds interesting and it's definately better than the "usual" addict style (e.g. 1 Win = 1 Point).

Still, I'm convinced that we will see the "usual" players on top of ANY addict style tournament, namely those who have the most time & energy to play.

While there's nothing wrong with playing 50+ games in 3 months, I'm definately not able (or willing) to reach this activity level. And seeing the leading players with xxx points after a few days already would surely keep me from participating in such a subtournament at all.

Therefore my vote goes to having at least a few bracket style tourneys in the future and punish those who ruin them by not playing their games. IMO, especially Mapmaster is suitable for bracketed style, because playing the same map over and over again in order to be on top sounds kinda boring.

Just my Blaaaaaaaarg

My 2 cents

Quote:

Maybe this idea would work with a little modification:

The basis is you kill same rank = 4pts. You get +1 pts for a rank above and -1 for a rank below kills.

That is:

footman kills footman: 4 pts
squire kills footman: 3 pts
baron kills footman: 2 pts
leg. kills footman: 1 pts

footman kills squire: 5 pts
Squire kills squire: 4 pts
baron kills squire: 3 pts
leg kills squire: 2 pts

footman kills baron: 6pts
squire kills baron: 5 pts
baron kills baron: 4 pts
leg kills baron: 3 pts

and so forth.

And players will state the pts in their report details section in order to save the volunteers from the possibility of miscalculations.

(baron)Winner: xxxxx
details: xxxx gets 3 pts

(squire) Loser: yyyy
details: xxxx gets 3 pts

You are right Haile, and I wouldnt do it, I would play a few games and see where it got me. No finals? no worries. But clearly brackets are not working anymore so an addicts style with a modified points system seems the way.

blah - tossing all around.

bracketstyl is not dead. look at the foirst 4 mapmastrs all had a good forfeit rate ( only about 20%  - really good for a bracketstyle) and all finals were played.

th current problem is the mapmaster s is not the systemn - itsthe players who are to lazy to contact their opponnts

but they will be filtered out. the rule changes for next rounds will players think twice bfore they register for a tourney they wont play in

yeah they will be there, but also the good players who maybe play less but can handle the heavier battles and pick up 4 or 8 points per win. That is the idea of a weighting system.

martigan and Kuma's systems actually penalise good players, so a poor player with 10 noob games will always beat a good player with 5 tough games. Then when u get to the bracketed finals, any good player who snuck through, will win for sure cuz all the competition got flooded out.

reading between the lines, it seems there are a number of players who get intimidated by the heavyweight players in most tournies. Is there really demand for Squire and under tournies?

Hmm yes Midnight I think there is demand for a Squire/footman tourney seperate of a baron and higer tourney.

I have heard the folowing comment often enough.
"I won't play in xxxxx tourney...too many bigshots (read: bignames...read high ranked or vets) in there already."

So I think we could try to arrange for such a tourney.
No harm in trying!@
