Rmg HELP Needed

can some1 post a link to a thread or whatever that explains what the values are and mean in the rmg.text. have worked out some things but would save loads of time if the guys who have been doing this for awhile could help me out alittle here

I did try to follow links on the bastards site, but they appear to be broken.

Also, would it not be possible (kitten etc ) to maybe have a Map Makers Corner or someting at HC site, where info can be posted and questions asked, to save ppl like me posting in here and messing up ya board

lol, i know the interview is long, but it is the best thing to start with.  after reading that, took me about half a day to figure out how to work the stuff.  Then the adjusting is the hard part, best way to do that is simply test it.  Lots of peeps out there willing to test them with ya too, just gotta ask.  pssssttt, start with Kuma. lol

omg

well, so far things look like a pile of poo !!

1st problem i have is trying to make sense of the rmg text file. am i using the wrong tool here, cause the values are all out of alignment with the headers etc, or is this normal.

2nd, if i re-align things so u can clearly see what values r for what header etc, will the rmg file still work when i try generate ?

3rd, jeez, that interview is quite hard to follow especially if using it as a reference to find things lol

but my main thing is about all the values etc being outta line with the headings, does it have ta stay like that for the program 2 make sense of it ?

I opened up the text file with Excel and it worked just like text edit.  Think i gonna start using it instead, just gotta make sure you save it as a txt file.

wooow, that is so much easier using text edit LMFAO, no wonder i was finding things difficult.

not yet tried excel, but will. any how the text edit works just great, now to make some damm templates LOOL

still having problems with "Connections"

oki, bare with me here lol

if i make a map with 5 areas, they would have ID 1, ID 2 ID 3 etc, right?

I make ID 5 into treasure area.

k, so far so good lol

but to link ID1 to ID 5, would i put (in connections) ZONE1: 1 and ZONE 2: 5 on ID 1 line or not?

this is the bit i cant clearly work out

By now i think u have figured that out alrdy i think But anyway...

U said all correctly. As for the lines in the connection columns - that doen't matter, in which line u write connection. If u name both zones, connection will work.

1 other question... Underground

is there some way to control Underground, ie to make it the treasure zone or is that a random varible ?

underground is out of reach, man. If template allows under, u can't say which areas will be under and which - no. Only thing u can control, is restricting terrain to caves and then face in map areas of cave OR dirt here.

underground can affect map balance quite a lot, so if ya gonna allow it (18 for L/under, 32 for XL/under) make sure u test it really well. Can often get tiny zones in under. pumping up zone sizes can help to fully use the under, and hence get larger zones, coming close to the size of the above ground ones.

is there a list somewhere that has specific values for treasure's, monsters etc, or does every1 have there own through trial and error?

also, what is max amount of zones that can be created, is there an upper limit?

oh, and, if i make a game for 2o2, but also want it to play 1o1, is it possible to set parameters to completey ignore the other 2 start zones? maybe not on that, they just get left as neutral towns right ? the gen will not create a template with 2 less zones right ?

I dont think there is a specific list of items and stack sizes, but i did investigate a few critical items. 9000 is where hives start, 10000 where utopias start, about 2000 where conserves start 30000 is where the every-spell-in game box starts.

I havent tried to see if upper limit on zones or connections. I did find that at around 25 connections u get multiple exits from doors. This has the effect of collapsing all the connections into 1 door which can mean u can go from one side of template to the other possibly skipping zones in the middle. This is nasty if u dont want it.

The tuning of templates to make them playable is quite hard. So i recommend making 2 templates, 1 for 1v1 play, and another for 2v2 play. In theory it is possible to make templates grow to accomodate the # of players using the restrictions (4 numbers based on # players that determines if the zone or connection is on map). I dont recommend it since it makes testing much harder.

1.Most important for template creating:
800 - gold piles
2000-3500 - highest density of conservatories
20000 - relicts

5000+ - can get 5lvl magic scrolls
somewhere about 7000 - can get 7lvl dwellings

2.Additional info:
1000-1500 - crypts, +1skills/per 1000 gold, waterwheels, lvl 1 shrines
1500-2000 - chests, learning stones, resources, +1 skills
2000-2500 - treasury arties, dwarven treasuries, medusas
3000-3500 - arenas, naga banks
3500-4000 - obelisks
4500- cyclopes stockpile
5000 - first small boxes
5000 - minor artifacts
10000 - major artifacts
around 14000 - library of enlightment

around 80000 - FrOZEN CLIFFS

120000 is max limit

so, now more questions

BOARDER GUARDS

values for boards guards? have done some experimenting, but rather than there being specific values for say a lvl 1 block or a lvl 2 block, is it based on something else, ie Hit Point values or something?

at 1833 or less.....i get no guards

1834 to 3375.......i seem 2 get lvl guards

etc etc

but something like 4915 i can get either 90 lvl 1's or 12 lvl 5's !

any1 have any insight into this part of the scripting ?

Lol maximus is this the unnoficial interview with the vampire part 2.
One thing about your guards. Depending on the editor version you have it is a good idea to put an x where it says border guard as this will narrow all your gaps and prevent an easy walk through.
You should be ok to do this if you are working from the editor that comes with heroes complete, but some versions give you a tent with a key which is a disaster.
Anyway try it and see.

i don't know the exact system but the guards are not set hitpoint-wise. Rather comp uses some kind of a strength value.

About monster levels - as u said around 5000 it could be either biiiig bunch of lvl 1 creatures or tiny group of bigger (e.g. lvl 5). Yet there are limits to that - e.g. with 80000 u can't have five legion of trogs, instead u will get only lvl 6-7+ monsters.
