Poll Question:
two images for the units

i have an idea for the look of ALL monsters:
in the info window(where are the monster stats) there should be a button which can change the look of the monster and there can be two possibilites: MALE or FEMALE.
i will see a female angel, devil or vampire, even a crusader (Sorsha is my favorite hero) but i don't like the female elf or genie. As for the tigers, wolves, venom spawns... it would be cool if there are still 2 pictures of them.

Responses:
i think it is stupid
i like the idia

noone cares i think...well i do! i think thats a great idea of the sexes but changing the image yourels...naah(if i understood you correctly). anyway, the sex thing is a good idea and i like it, but i doubt people have the wish or wanting to change that, besides it would be cool when you buy a creature stack it randomly creates it male or female...
another thing, i dont think venom spawns have sexes, they are more like amobeus, generating when splitting

draw the graphics again?

...I don't think so... creating 3D models and render them again maybe  just for the record, i like the idea..

Another idea

What if the heroes had their own personalities ?

On the combat screen, the heroes would have their own face, their own clothes, their own sounds (why not some speech as BG?). Crag Hack will also have a teerifying war cry, Adelaide will be so beautiful, you couldn't hurt her,etc.....

On the adventure screen, it is harder to do but not impossible.

In that way, you immediatly recognize the heroes travelling through the map or the heroe you're fighting. You'll enjoy a lot more when you play with your favorite one.

It's a hard work, but in many role-playing game heroes have their own personnality. Perhaps in HoMM5?...

That would require a different set of animations and stills for every unit (and there are a LOT of them) and it would take too much time. Plus some monsters are suited for certain genders, for example.. Harpy Hags? Some you can't tell the gender from the unit itself (Dragons, Stone Golems, Dendroids, etc..).

I would say it's pointless. To do that for the heroes would be justified because they deserve more personality than the normal units and there are far less heroes to animate. To do that for the units doesn't add to the game or change anything and isn't necessary -- purely cosmetic.

And why would we do this?

I could understand the heroes, since they're supposed to be unique. But why bother with the creatures? That'd be an awful lot of work to do for no benefit.

To much diversity is bad. Some creatures are meant to be male, some female. Take some examples:

- genies - should be men, and only men. 3do are wrong big time with their new looks.
- sprites - only women.
- syrens - can you imagine them men? Hope not...
- angels - Anyone heard of a woman being angel? I've read the Holy Bible and there's no word on such thing, so it must be out of discussion.

Women angels don't sound so bizzarre to me.. I've seen them in lots of other settings.

There are some units that don't have genders, some that can only be one gender, and some that you can't tell the difference between genders. The point - There is no point.

What's a female skeleton gonna look like? Is it gonna have a little bow tied on its head?

Angels have no sex !!!

I am quite sure that angels are neither men nor women.
That's why they look so strange.

Vlad is right about sprites and others. It's most of the time impossible to create the both sex for each creatures.

They are looking like men in Heroes3 because when they are Archangels they wear a beard.

I don't know why exactly, but the angel sex is considered as "neutral". It must have a biblical meaning. I will search.

to Pyromancer : Did you never wonder angels were often looking like women?

In one hand, they always have long hair, a cute face, a white dress (which hide... "nothing").
In the other hand, they look strong with a male attitude and they may fight evil creatures.

Here are facts on angels: there are three types of angels to be found in depictions - and they are the serafims, the heruvims and the archangels. That's how you'll find them drawn on the paintings in a church. The first two classes are the non-gender ones, sometime pretty little children with wings.
But the later, the archangel is the warrior angel fighting in the armaggedon and he is always depicted as a powerful man, always wearing armor and carrying the power of God in his sword.
All in all, the archangel's gender is man.

now then, i think the little thingy with the archangels is settled...
i dont agree on your thought about changing hero graphics unique. i mean its much more work...i dont remember the exact figures(neither have i bothered to check ANY of the links given here) but i think there were about 200 different heroes? thats much more work that 40 creatures*2
and i think angels should look something like vidomina(i think that was the name) in homm3. remember, the transvestite look?

i don't know what is written in the Bible about the angels, but i am not surprised of the male looking of them-since the christians are maybe afraid to put a woman (in a good role) in their mytology (yes there is only one exception). archangels are not  beings in the true meaning of the word, there are more like principles of acting (that is very abstract and i think no one is interested in this).
i have a different point of view how the angels are looking and it does not include antropomorphological shape.

the main idea that i have, is not of the two sexes of the creatures - it is more about the choise how are the units looking - male or female, agressive or more friendly (look the two pictures of the unicorns), more fierce or not. this is one way in which more of us will be satisfied how the units look. yes, this means more work for the 3do, but who don't want to play a masterpiece ?

Could you perhaps explain to me why you would want your war units to look more "friendly" than agressive? They kill things for you. They're not meant to be friendly.

The game can still be a masterpiece even without this.. odd feature.

Since the creators of the game seem to like the idea of female warriors, why didn't they introduce the amazons or other dedicated female-warriors instead of perverting dedicated men fighters?
