This is precisely the reason that I still strongly support Paul. One doesn't need to vote for some dream candidate that perfectly reflects every single opinion you have. Paul has a proven record of integrity and cast iron balls, and coincides with the basic jist of my views. As for some of the things he espouses that are more worrying to me, it's not really a big concern because he has very limited ability to ever bring them about anyway. He would after all only be a president. He would, however, have immense clout with foreign policy as well as giving the green light to any budget cuts coming across his desk so Congress doesn't have to force them through with a supermajority.

Does this mean that he has a 0 chance of becoming the Republican candidate now?

Effective video, to say the least. Very good play on emotions (as his PR people probably realized) combining the song with select images to make Paul seem like the perfect president. I wonder what they mean by "Grass root" though... Going back to agriculture, or simply making the government and bureaucratic system easier? Former, not so good. Later, very good. Something to look up...

It was a very close race (and technically still is), but here are the results from Iowa:

Romney    24,6% - 6 delegates
Santorum  24,5% - 6 delegates
Paul      21,5% - 6 delegates
Gingrich  13,3% - 4 delegates
Perry     10,3% - 3 delegates
Bachman      5% - 0 delegates
Huntsman   > 1% - 0 delegates

Not all that different from what the latest polls have shown. It's basically a tie for first place, with Romney ahead with only 15 votes. Paul came in a close third, but all the top three candidates got equal amount of delegates. So in that sense, it was a three way tie. The second tear candidates; Gingrich, Perry and Bachman all under performed I would say.

Huntsman has not focused at Iowa at all, and is betting everything on New Hampshire. So the poor result is not unexpected. He is currently polling third in NH.
Bachmans campaign is over. She will probably stay for New Hampshire, and maybe South Carolina because of the debates coming up. But not much longer than that. She did terrible in the state where she won the straw poll.
Perry has spent a lot of money in Iowa, so this result is not good for him. He has always planned on skipping New Hampshire and to go straight for South Carolina. But in view of these numbers he has decided to go back to Texas and "reassess" his campaign. It would be a surprise if he drops out now, but it's not unthinkable.
Gingrich was hoping to win this thing in late November, but the attacks on him and his record have obviously had its toll. If you heard his speech last night, he sounded angry and bitter, and will probably come hard after Romney in New Hampshire. If he doesn't do well in South Carolina it's over for him.
Paul did very well, despite the barrage of media attacks on him these last few weeks. Compared to Gingrich these attacks did not significantly hurt his numbers. He will not receive the media attention a win would give, and that could hurt going into New Hampshire. On the other side, he more than doubled his votes from '08, he has stood up to scrutiny, is a strong second in NH and rising in national polls.
Santorum did remarkebly well. In only three days he went from 8% to almost 25%. That's amazing! Looks like he managed to gather a lot of the socially conservative votes, and the momentum helped him swoop up a fair deal on undecided. The media really did him well. Although this will give him a significant boost going forward, he has not many places to go. His campaign has no money, no national organization, and his record has not been under scrutiny yet.
Romney was expected to win, so his result does not change much. In a way he under performed, doing worse than in '08, and confirming that he just isn't able to grow his base. He has been polling 23-25% all year, with no change at all. That means 75% of republicans still want someone else but him. If that vote is concentrated on one or two people before super Tuesday, Romney will have a very difficult time.

Santorum had a surge but I can't conceive him matching those numbers in many other states, particularly the big juicy ones. Iowa is as good of a battleground as he's ever going to get. It's uphill for him at this point. Also don't forget that there's been so much slung around between the major contenders that he's had the advantage of avoiding bad PR for the most part. For Gingrich, his better chances will be in states like New Hampshire. Paul also has some decent chances because he's going to pull in a pretty big following no matter what region he's in. He's touting a pretty decent crowd in Massachusetts and I remember him performing pretty well in Pennsylvania in '08, which will theoretically repeat itself only better.

I think it will take a lot for him to do very well in New Hampshire. Romney has a strong lead, with Paul as a solid second, and Gingrich and Huntsman fighting over third place. He has a better chance in South Carolina, where he is currently in the lead.

But he has experienced how effectively the negative ads can bring down his lead. Coupled with Santorums 15 minutes of fame, a lot could happen.

Edit: Bachmann just dropped out!

The Angela Merkel thing was just something silly I wrote. I am strongly against affirmative action

What I don't like about the US elections is that you basically have to be +50 years old and really rich. It seems like a lot of guys in the US elections own lots of corporations or are backed up by them. That doesn't really happen here, atleast not in public.

Here one of our party leaders and a minister is 28 years old and has never had a "real" job before.

My ideal democratic system would probably something like Schweiz + american system with candidates + parliamentary system + monarchy.
