Ashan is a garbage of a setting, full of rip-offs and unimaginative whatsoever. the origin of orcs is the only thing they did properly, other stuff is pure ripped off garbage.

but we rant as much as we please. Ubi doesn't give two turds about the fanbase.

I voted no, I think Ashan is the best high fantasy setting you could ever want, and would love for it to stay for the next hundred Heroes games lol

Well if you asked me about a year eariler, I'd say it could have potential, because devs and Ubi might've realized their mistakes and make something new out of it, have more developed lore and make it more thrilling and interesting.

But seeing H7, no. It looks they have not learned much about this and continue their own path.

You wouldn't have gotten them back anyhow. NWC H5 were about to fuse the "warlocks" with the barbarians and make the swamp faction into an all dragon town. Enroth blew up and the factions with them. Its not like NWC, if they had survived, would have kept making H3 over and over again either. H4 should serve as an example as that.

I surely hope you meant by making H3 in success. Even if you did not, why would you even think H4 is similar again? Not only that, there is nothing wrong in it, but only if the gameplay is expanded with new features... AND the gameplay mechanics remain updated (but not downgraded).

This is a good thing and also something Ashan can never do.

Just reminded myself of the script from the first scenario of HoMM IV:s Might Campaign:

Quote:
I know you don't understand it now, Waerjak, but someday you will. Yes we are Barbarians. Yes, we are born warriors. But a warrior is not just a killer. He's a protector! You must have respect for life, and an even greater respect for your ability to take it. Otherwise, you're just a murderer.

The campaign is called Glory Days of Past.

(compare that with anything Ubi/Le Breton has ever come up with)

Word.

I'm very curious about what the NWC had in plan for their gorgeous version of HoMM V. I wonder if anyone who worked at NWC back then could be reading this? Please, do break the hearts of us older fans and tell us what we could have had instead of Ubi-Wannia.

Well, to me that lizard town looks really unattractive and those cat men/elves are also very ugly. There are some good designs, but some are really awful. What surprises me even more is that apparently NWC was also developing race-based factions. So all those people complaining about the takeover by Ubisoft ruining the franchise by making the factions race-based should realize that NWC was planning to the the same. At least to a couple of the factions.

Isn't their sprite the most generic fantasy fairy ever? I really prefer the new design introduced by H7 than this boring gal.

We don't know... much, about NWC's H5. Perhaps design may be a bit off, but have you even heard of creatures like catelf before?

The only problem I have it as, if I read correctly, JVC claimed there wouldn't be underground layer. That I admit that is the major problem that could've been there.

... not that we couldn't have asked him, unlike Ubi.

Maybe, but with the Lizards it looks more like a biology based faction, everything has scales, sure, but the to-date lineup is a lizardman, a naga, a hydra a wyvern and a dragon. Not hugely attractive to my mind though I must admit.

Indeed. There was supposed to be six creatures per faction. We don't know which the Lizard town's lvl 1 one was (snake? gnoll?), but for the rest of them we had 2 creatures who were lizardmen and 3 who weren't. So calling it a race-based town is kind of a stretch. "Biology-based" (creatures with scales) probably hits the nail though. And I love the idea.

Yup, Haven's lineup, or at least what was revealed of it, was disappointing with only humans in it. No argument there.

I love the feline fairy town, and not just because I like cats. It's extremely refreshing to see a famous developer create a fantasy game with no generic elves at all. The only fantasy developer who have done something original with elves in the last 20 years are Blizzard with their blood elves, IMHO. Others just throw the same boring elves in the bunch because they believe they are supposed to be there per default. They're not.

I vote other worlds instead of Ashan.

And it's not a matter whether I prefer the old over the new one, it's mainly that after Ashan became the setting place for this franchise, I couldn't find much fun playing the game. It's mainly a matter of association of something that was taken from me since Ashan was created; even when I'm not tied up too much about lore. However, as it is, I was never so disturbed into being reminded of Ashan while trying to grasp and like a game as it has been happening in the days of late, so I feel like there's a forcing hand upon this and it has greatly dampened my mood regarding the franchise.

And the idea of another world is something that would be better than both the old and the new, of course. I wouldn't be pleased returning to the old setting whatsoever. But keep this Ashan for all I care. I'm not sure if it'll go much further either way.

I can't really agree on this part.
There are actually some others who have done a good job in doing mroe original elves. For example Skyrim. You can't really say that they fit the typical generic oh so fair and good elves. Many of the High Elves are portrayed as arrogant in their superiority and heartless to the point of inhumanity.
Wood elves on the other hand are short and shady fellows who are often thieves. They are also cannibalistic Also, the elves in the game are reeeeeeeally ugly

True there - at least when it comes to Dunmer - they are original and fun as hell in the ES series. I love Morrowind. ES/WC, fine. Point is, many fantasy games throw in generic elves just because they feel they ought to be there to satisfy tropes for unimaginative players.
