In multiplayer, unless you play a complete noob to fortify your rank slowly, opponents are of close level. Which means the differences in final fights would be little, 2-3 levels at max; don't dream too much about Malekith level 45 and 99-99-99-99 smashing a Crag level 15 and with 4-1-1-10 stats.

Forget about high level spells in MP. They count only if opponent agree to play a free rule game where all tactics are used; thing very rare nowadays.

But it's still possible to underestimate a town's defense, right?

Yeah I play the game differently, all those multiplayer restrictions are boring to me, I only need to dissable a few artifacts and spells, switch some heroes and control diplomacy a little, then I'm good.

So HeroesWorld, the most active league that I am aware of, allows using each and every spell. DD is restricted to 1-2 per day, hit and run is mildly restricted(can't escape on first round if used magic), and to use spell scrolls lvl 4-5 you need to build one mage guild corresponding to level of spell on the scroll. All in all, I would say it does not damage most of spells.

Full rules they play by are here:
http://forum.heroesworld.ru/showthread.php?t=10593

So tell me exactly which restrictions do you find so unnecessarily boring? (Google translate will help if you can't read russian)

Those rules are fine, but I have seen other rules which are far more restricting, but it does'nt matter this thread is about the worst skills.
Also I don't understand one word of russian, so that site is like hieroglyphs to me.

Back to the skills, I wonder why the game makers put Learning in there anyway. As Phoenix4ever and Salamandre proved, it's never the skill to choose.

Probably because learning was a very praised skill in Might and Magic 6, which uses same sheets, graphics and concepts. And some of team designer members too. But in MM6 there is no level cap so it pays in long run, while in Heroes 3 74 is the last safe level. Plus in MM6 you increase the percentage by adding a point into skill, up to 60 increases. But in Heroes 3 you are done after 2 increases, so is totally broken.

In MM7 I recall it made 30-40 levels difference or something similar incredible, that was with scholar's cap and similar stuff, but not necessarily GM in the skill, and only by investing no more than ~3 levels of skill points into the skill itself.

I think the big issue is that it's capped in HoMM to a degree that it makes no difference due to the distance between levels. 15% xp isn't worth a whole lot if the difference between each level means you gain next to nothing. Either increase the percentage or change the difference between levels, perhaps both, though simplest would be to simply boost learning.

It's with cases like learning one sometimes wonders how play testing was done, since it was allowed into the game in the state it ended up in.

It is already done. WoG options offers Learning I and II (up to 50% chance to gain an extra prim and 100/200/300 extra exp. points a day).
While the second is quite useless for main it is good on scouts and specially in garisson heroes that would not advance levels without it. The first one on the other hand becomes more powerfull as a late hero has all secondary skill slots fullfilled, in that case each time he gains an extra primary skill is like he has progressed two levels instead of one.
Other ideas are always wellcome but I think Learning I immediatly makes the skill very usefull, maybe even OP.

If Learning was increased from 5/10/15 to 10/20/30 it might be worth something. Still skills max out early, around level 21, so levels after that are only worth a single stat point.

After my test I decided to remove Learning from my map completely and heroes starting with Learning have something else instead. It is a shame, but skills are there to improve heroes, not weaken them...
Learning is simply never worth taking.

Well, since Era/wog is out, is pointless to remove anything in SoD. You can just code every skill to do what you want, then have the game intact but with only that skill improved.

Yes, and if you still want regular SoD, you can play it too.

So you complain your door is broken, someone is giving you a hammer to fix, yet you refuse the hammer, say "hammer, hammer, hammer" and throw the door away. An attitude I can't understand, all games I play (only a few I admit) required my manual fixes in order to become what I really wanted.

On the other side, you have here and there people who constantly beg for others to do the fixes.

How many times do I have to tell you I don't play WoG.
My proposals are meant for original SoD and HotA, not WoG.
These discussion are pointless if you keep talking about WoG which has nothing to do with original skills of Heroes 3.

If you tell me you play ONLY hota, then I have no problem, as we see Hota has its very harsh limitations about customization.

But if you tell me you play SoD but don't want to play wog, while keeping complaining about mechanics in EVERY thread you make or answer to, then I don't understand you, as wog is sod 100% but with a button +, then a manual to make your changes.

I liked Enlightnement in H5 especially in campaigns. It gives on Expert 15% extra exp but give also boosts our stats. Our high level hero with Enlightment could mentor tavern hero, he didn't need fight every one on map to reach similar lvl.

Also i would stronger useless skills or even make skill chain like in H5/H7.

If you proclaim mysticism to be the best secondary skill there is in heroes 3, you will most likely get shut down by tens of people on this forum; the way that they explain the facts to you will most likely be taken as "arrogant or aggressive behavior" from your standpoint. The problem is born due to their (the people who have the knowledge) lack of capability in considering who they are having a discussion with. For them, it is so clear mysticism is garbage, that they overextend, which will then be misunderstood by the "to be enlightened". The thing is, as long as you don't know about why mysicism is bad, you can't elevate yourself to their level, since you are on a different degree, in terms of skill.
