Anyone Notice that the Manticore has a Shot sound effect?
I've been trying (and failing) to find the archer and marksman sound effects in the Heroes3.snd, but I came across one called MANTSHOT, which as far as I can tell is an unused sound file for a shooting manticore.
It would make sense with the myths, interesting that it was never used.
(Also if anyone knows the names of the Archer sound files, please let me know.)
Edit: I think it is HCRSSHOT
I guess that stands for, human crossbow? So they admit they are the human faction?

I am pretty sure that the manticore shot was scrapped for balance reasons. Fun fact, but the manticore has separate melee attack animations, where it uses its paws. Presumably, the animations we currently see being used in the game might be the shot animations.
Well, it was obviously meant to be the human faction, so yes. And yes, they are also called light and heavy crossbowmen in certain game files. It might have been an early name for the creature (and they would have made more sense in terms of describing the sprite itself, at least).

Neat! That would also go a long way to explain why the Manticore/Scorpicore is so fragile for a Tier 6. I think they should get their range back.

I recently realized that there's not a single flying shooter in the game. Would have been neat if the Manticore was one.

The kiting you could do would be insane. Just thinking about it, they'd need to reduce their movement speed. Only limit them to like 4 shots.

I always liked ranged manticores ever since I saw them in action in Age of Mythology! I added a ranged attack option to the manticores in my -now broken- h7 mod from back in the day.

There's a lot more unused sound bits. Just look around and you'll find a treasure trove!

Archer's sound files have prefix LCSR. It stands for "light crossbowman". HCRS are Marksman's files prefix. This stands for "heavy crossbowman".

Maybe altrnative paralyze effect. Flying shooters was never known in Heroes.

WoG Sorceress is a flying shooter. In H4 it was Evil Eye, in H6 it was Succubus, in H7 carpet mages. Rare sight? yes. Never known? Hardly.

They do shoot in Might and Magic 7, although they sacrificed their wings for it, so that seems like a bad bargain. I wonder if their venom was meant to work in ranged as well. Paralyzing enemies from distance... possibly way too overpowered.

Well, I think another obvious candidate is the Storm Elemental

In this case it is already a shooter, it just isn't a flyer.
Both it and the Fire Elemental should fly (according to their anims)
Manticore shooting should have like 1-2 shots. The claw melee anim should be restored in that case. Maybe nerf something else from Dungeon
