Sorry for disappearing, but I had to go - thanks for the welcomes back guys
It took insanely long to get better, but now I'm almost there... watch next thing will be that I've caught the Avian Flu, since it's been found in ducks here and I have a giant pond where hundreds of geese and ducks live...
as for Toronto... lol... what do you expect me to say here? *scratches head*

Ottawa is showing they are the team. Unstoppable.
When was the last time you saw a team win games
10-4, 8-0, guys scoring 4 goals a game. Edmonton
in the '80s? Pittsburgh in the 90s'?

... and now Ottawa in the 00's?!
(kind of ironic.. you asked "when was the last time you ever.... and were able to give 2 strong examples in the last 25 years!!)
I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on whether or not you think this year will be different in regards to league play vs playoff play!
any comments?
will they choke?
will the coach be the diff?
is Heatley/Hasek the diff?
better team overall?
better motivation?

I think they will go deep into the playoffs now that they have an elite goaltender. Whether Heatley is better than Hossa remains to be seen. It's just too early to tell.

I think the GM with the cleanup he did has every intentions of making sure this year will be different.
They have a new coach, and he's doing quite well.
As said above, they have now a great goaltender
And the GM is really the source of the motivation here, he's the one pulling the strings and chopping the heads if Ottawa chokes.
But, we need to remember the year New Jersey won, Ottawa went to game 7 in the conference finals. Little did they choke, had they won that game, the cup was theirs. New Jersey went against anaheim in the final and blew them out of the water 4-0 hands down. The conference final was actually a better matchup then the final itself.

/...yeah but they lost none the less!
and as much as Hasek is good, you don't really need a good goaler when you're winning 8-0!
so TO and OTT in the first round this year?

When was the last time TO won (or even got to) the Cup? No TO fan has any right to talk about choking.

no but they sure can poke fun at Ottawa fans due to the fact that TO usually eliminates Ott.
(which is what Conan is tired of hearing.)

That trend's probably going to change. Ottawa has too much talent to keep losing to TO...TO reminds me of the Stars. Their best players are aging and they need to rebuild but dont want to admit it. Dallas needs to deal Modano while they can still get something for him and TO needs to do the same with Sundin.

you don't feel TO can build around star players like
Tucker and Domi??

Actually we have a right to talk about anything we like, everyone has that right
The biggest problem with the Leafs is that for years now the management has been looking to finally squeeze that cup out of the same team basically. They look to vets to bring that 'last bit' they feel the team needs -and while I wouldn't disrespect some of the players that have come over the years... they very rarely make any contribution to the future of the Leafs, not to mention that Quinn also seems to have quite the love for big, slow guys with lead hands.
I would love for Mats Sundin to win a cup before his career is done, but the Leafs are going to need to think about rebuilding to do that, their management strategy just isn't working.
As for the Senators, I think the reason for their success is coaching. Finally they have a coach that is working with the team's strength, instead of trying to force the guys into a formula that doesn't suit them. You would have never seen scores like that under Jacques Martin, after a 2 goal lead they woulda locked up and played the trap until all their momentum had gone and the other team could steal the game back Obviously they've made some good (great) pickups, but look at Alfreddson, as much as I can't stand the guy ( )- I feel glad for him that he's finally allowed to show his team what he can do out there.

well I think you've raised a point that really benefits ALL TALENTED players...
finally some hockey that promotes, you know, hockey!!
Look at the teams that are doing well... fast pace, quick passing and nice plays! No more New Jersey "trap"
clutch and grab and grind...
Pat Quin likes the big slow guys cuz he's still fighting for the old system where his style of coaching wasn't beeing cracked down on by the new rules.
go figure that the one coach that's complanning (more like whinning) about the new rules is the coach for the team that has the biggest reputation for beeing dirty.
Pat's a goon... he likes goons.. and that's the only way he knows how to coach. TO better lose him and get someone with a fresh philosophy and someone who can adapt to the new (old) game! Look at Ottawa, they got rid of Martin, and their new coach seems to really be motivating the guys to play hard and take pride in all their games!
I think that they should also trade Sundin to a cup contending team like Boston did for Bourque back a few years... TO is not likely to pull a great playoff race until they deal with bigger issues. They could get some good young players for Matt and start thinking about TO's future.
EDIT:
GO HABS GO
GO HABS GO!!
well chalk up another win for mtl!

Been several days since anyone posted on this thread...I hope it's not dying. Dallas played really well over the weekend, winning 4 in a row before losing Nashville, one of the surprise teams so far. If Turco can continue to step it up, we might have a chance. He was horrible up until the 4-game winning streak...Habs are still on top of the east, but at this point I think the Sens are slightly better. It's going to be an interesting race for the top spot in the east...Hmm, still no reply. It's been over a week now. Where is everybody?

What do you guys think of Sean Avery?
Is he the NHL version of the NFL's Terrell Owens? Could this guy be a bigger moron?! lol Some guys need to have their mouths taped shut... it would help them out. Here's the article at TSN if you dunno what I'm talking about http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=143159&hubname=
BTW, I must admit that I'm stunned that nobody mentioned Sidney Crosby's oh so pretty S.O. gamewinner the other night ! I mean c'mon, you can't tell me you guys weren't impressed by the kid there!

His comments about European and French-Canadian players were pretty dumb, but he's not in Terell Owens' league yet. He hasn't complained that several millions of dollars is not enough for him to feed his family and he hasn't accused any of his teammates of being gay or publicly insulted his coach or team.
