The dwarf was sitting on the log he brought from the woods, with his battle-axe in his left hand. He was gazing at Isildur and Ike, silently murmuring something in his dwarf language. Apparently, he was waiting for the crow to return, as the bird proved to be a useful scout. If danger was to come, it would alert the axe instantly.

Still, the dwarf was drowning in his thoughts. He was eager for battle, but Cauldron's Keep, the goal of his journey, somehow discouraged him.

Hathar was a friendly fellow, but he was a distrustful one. He could quickly make friends, but he would also analyze them before getting to know them.

"The greatest dang'r will not come from the Keep..." he thought, raising his eyebrows. "The danger comes from inside the camp..."

He felt he had to cheer up. The dwarf instantly felt better. He knew that pondering about evil plots and the enemy was not a good thing.

"Lads." he looked at Ike and Isildur. "Me needs a mug o' ale. As we have none, my pipe will do good." he smiled, taking out his pipe. "Who will join me?"

While slowly puffing on my pipe while meandering about the camp, Hathar's asking for Isildur and I to smoke with him caught my attention. Turning to face him I slowly walked over and handed him my pouch full of tobacco.

"Try this. It's quite good with strong taste" I told him. Which was true. After he took his fill I offered the pouch to Isildur. Turning back to the dwarf I decided to ask him. "So, how far have you come seeking adventure, glory, and fame? I haven't been here long, but I've seen that dwarves are rather rare in these parts... Elves too for that matter," I said motioning to Isildur, "it's rather interesting that the three with the least similarities take the first watch. Do either of you suppose Richard would be playing mind games with us? Singling us out since we are...different?"

Thats an interesting theory you have there.

Isildur said while taking some of the tobacco for his own pipe.

Although i am only half elvish, its quite observant of you to point that out. Maybe Richard would just like us to form some sort of bond, as he thinks we would be the three who would find it hardest... My reasons for traveling to the keep? Adventur i suppose, but something lures me there... What about you?

Isildur began smoking the tobacco. Ike was not lying, it was quite full flavoured.

Where did you get this from, it is something i have never tasted before.

I smiled before replying, "Where I'm from it's enhanced with magic during it's more...fruitful stages of it's growth. Enhances the flavor and, if you haven't noticed yet, can be smoked longer than the...erm....'normal' stuff."

After taking a long drag and blowing a few smoke rings I figured I'd answer his other question.
"As for my reasons on going to the Keep, I've been asked to go in search of a treasure that was said to be there by my eldars. I'm sure you know how...my race is... Though not all of us are hungry for power. I guess you could say that if it wasn't for that, I go for the thrill of adventuring. Never knowing when one might die from a trap or brutally hacked to bits by some monster."

I gazed around the sleeping camp and looked deep into the woods for anything suspicious. Suddenly, a good couple hundred yards out, peering out from behind a tree I noticed something moving. Unsure just exactly what it was, I thought it'd be best to go out on my own with the dwarf and elf in the light of the campfire to protect the others. I knew elves could see well, but not as well at nighttime as the Drow. While the dwarf could see perfectly well at night, not nearly as far.

"I think I'm going to go out for a stroll my friends.... Keep your eyes open!" I said before darting off into the woods in the hopes of circling around 'Mr. Smith'

OOC: I am changing my writing style of Hathar's speech a bit and also a bit my BBCode usage

Also, about the runes - I suppose you don't imagine it is a magical writing, eh? I seem to have explained it before, so do not misunderstand something by accident

The dwarf looked at Ike with strange distrust as he heard him telling Isildur about the awkward tobacco. If it wasn't for a strange tingling sensation in his head that he should accept his offer, he would have rejected it instantly. Yet, he accepted his offer and put into his pipe.

" Awkward... " he said to himself. " This tobacco o' Ike... I know it from the scent... A travelling trader once brought it to me hometown. I remember many dwarves gone mad or died, but the cause fer it was not found. The 'mind-soaker'... " a strange hollow crept through his face, remembering the events.

" Ike, " Hathar suddenly turned to Ike. The man was talking to Isildur, but there was a pause in the conversation - Ike seemed to be strolling somewhere else. " Yee ask me where the dwarves are? I have no response. Me clan is residing well-hidden now, after the recent events. I do not know the very details, but they seem to have suffered from a treachery recently. They decided to move their towns to the mountains nearby. " he ended, following by a smile. " They have closed themselves to most outsiders... Nay, I will not tell yee where - only the elder dwarven clans are allowed and the elves about whom ye are asking. "

Suddenly, Hathar felt he was watched - yet it was an outsider, not the shady crow, which was somewhere out, probably visiting the runemaster. He took out a shadowy rune out of his belt, with a sparkling assymetrical star in front. The bushes nearby started to move...

" Lads, " he watched around and saw Ike had already left. " Isildur, I feel we must check what is happening... Ike felt it. " holding the rune in front of his forehead. " Hathar senses danger... Someone is watching us... "

Damned dwarf...even what he called a 'whisper' was about as quiet as a hammer ringing on an anvil. Then again, sensitive ears known among elven kind made many things much louder than they appeared. I seriously hoped that at least one of them would have enough sense to stay back and gaurd the camp in case of an ambush. Silently stalking the strange shape as it leered around the tree watching the grumbling dwarf, it turned too late before I had the sharp blade of a scimitar pressed up against the creature's throat.

"State your business or die like a cowardly dog! Move so much as a muscle other than your lips and you'll have enough life in you to watch your heart stop beating!" I growled at the...thing. It appeared to be some type of goblinoid, but far too tall and muscular.

No need Hathar.

Isildur had his ear to the ground. Listening, for footsteps. he then raised his head, trying to hear more of what was happening.

Ike already follows whatever is out there, and their footsteps have stopped so i am assuming he caught or killed whatever it was. You would be the strongest out of us two, so you watch the camp while i check on Ike. Should anything go wrong that you cant handle, just call out.

Isildur drew his short sword and began walking towards the faint sound of Ike's voice.

Mark woke up once more, feeling refreshed, rejuvenated after his... incident.

He heard shouting. Must have been what woke him up.

"State your business, or die like a cowardly dog! Move so much as a muscle other than your lips and you'll have enough life in you to watch your heart stop beating!"

It was Ike, the elven rogue, who had an orcish creature at sword point. With Ike's scimitar around his throat, the beast that appeared to be a hobgoblin quivered in fear.

Mark pulled his cloak over his shoulders, and walked over.

"Do not be hurting me, sir? It is only I, Gilmesh, wandering the woods. I mean no harm, no blades, see?" The orcblooded creature smiled, revealing a full set of sharp fangs. This was no ordinary orc, or hobgoblin for that matter.

Ike withdrew the scimitar as Mark approached, and kicked the creature to the floor, keeping his sword pointed.

"And what interest are we.. to you?" Mark inquired, stepping forward.

"Not much do you come through these forests, no? I hear these voices, so much noises, and I is come through this way! Please!" The monster looked Mark straight in the eye, and then down to Mark's hands. Mark peered back, and then turned to Ike.

"Why, he's lying." Mark smiled, and kneeled down to the goblin, and pushed Ike's sword away. "Hold him, Ike." The elf complied.

Mark went behind the creature, which was sitting down on the floor, and began to struggle as Ike restrained him. Mark nodded to the other nightwatches to look out for other threats.

Mark grasped his head with two hands, pressing his fingers into it's bare scalp.

The goblin creature screamed as smoke rose from Mark's burning fingertips.

"He knows who we are, elf. Ask him!"

Mark pressed harder, and the screams matched the pain.

"Shut him up! These woods will be crawling with his kind if he keeps that damned racket up!" I hissed towards the man. I wasn't even quite sure why he was even awake, but here he was. Whatever it was he was doing only made the creature shreik more. Finally figuring it was enough I knocked the creature unconscious before taking out some rope and tying him tightly.

"No sense in letting him go, though, by now after all that racket, every thing in a ten mile radius knows something is  here and may come to investigate. Damn goblinoids anyway. Have you found out anything....useful?"

So what was this guy doing around here?

Isildur came running into the clearance. He looked down at Mark, still holding the goblin.

"So what was this guy doing around here?" Isildur asked.

Mark spoke up.
"Pardon the noise, Ike, but this... 'goblinoid' does not dwell within these forests." Mark took the creatures leg and revealed the underside of his feet. They were freshly cut and bleeding, bare. "His feet are not used to the jungle floor. I have but reason to suspect this goblin is different from the rest, perhaps from a castle, or a Keep... perhaps?" He winked at Isildur, and dropped the weakened goblin on the ground.

The smell of tobacco had been carried in the wind. It traveled to Richard's nose and woke him from his deep sleep. He rolled over and looked up at the stars as he listened to Hathar, Ike, and Isildur talk about tobacco and other such things.

They didn't seem to be paying much attention to their surroundings, so Richard thought he would take a look around himself. Thick clouds covered the sky and any light the stars or moon might bring on such a night. It was pitch black and Richard could see little more than the campfire and the few things it lit.

He focused his mind reaching for his magical talents. The dark night suddenly became bright as day. He took a look around and saw a movement in the underbrush that didn't look as if it was the wind. Focusing his eyes more, he saw a figure snooping around watching the camp.

He looked back at the three nightwatches and saw Ike get up and go put a sword to the figures throat. Then as a surprise to Richard, Mark got up and walked over to Ike and the goblinoid and began torchering him demanding answers. It got nowhere and the monster simply shrieked out in pain. Ike ceased the annoying racket and knocked out the goblinoid with a solid punch to the chin.

Richard thought little of the incident. At least his party was aware of their surroundings. He was especially pleased to see Mark woke from a dead sleep. Though he knew they were overreacting far more than was needed. Goblinoids usually never bothered any party that was competant in battle.

They only ever bothered the unarmed traveler or sometimes would give trouble to those who traveled alone. But a large party such as this, they would never think of causing any trouble. It was very likely that had Ike waited another twenty or thirty seconds the goblinoid would have already seen the strength of this group and left. Richard saw them tie up and drag the unconscious body into their camp. He called to Ike and Mark as the dropped the body on the ground next to the campfire.

"Wake me when he regains consciousness," he said, "I want to have a talk with the orc. Oh and it's about time the next watch started. I'd like to say thanks to all of you three for doing a great job keeping watch." Richard rolled over and went back to sleep.

Still laying on the ground Annunhalion saw the whole sittuation. There was no point in getting up and causing a fus. It was just some clumsy orc on a recon mission. Whoever sent him here wasn't too clever.

Noone would think normal of an orc in the forest. They were far too afriad of what lurked in the depths of the woods. Still it was a marvel that he made it this far.

He had a feeling that the rest were turning this into too much of an incident. Overreacting... So perhpas it was time to get some sleep, at least for a while...

Mark sat down, silent.

They may tie this creature up, but it will not be restrained.

The spellweaver put his fingertips together, and his hands up to his face, in thought. He looked back at the orc.

The orc opened it's eyes, and made contact with Mark's.

"They may not suspect you either, but I know you are not what you seem."

He flipped to the second plane, and once again everything disappeared except for the party members. The orc was no where to be seen, he was no mortal.

Mark was to flip to the third plane once more, to see what horrors now haunt him, when he was interrupted by Richard.

"Wake me when he regains consciousness," he said, "I want to have a talk with the orc."

Mark nodded.

They may not belong in the forest, mused the Guardian to himself, but neither do you! He stared into the deep purple hue of the cauldron smoke, which had, by now, permeated the room. The cloaked figure had been watching the travellers intently, becoming increasingly frustrated by the party's persistence in pursuit as He searched for a way to unravel their ranks. He had decided this party could not reach the Keep alive, for it made possible His downfall if such an unwittingly dangerous group were allowed inside. Drastic measures were now a necessity.

They had His familiar, this was true, but the little creature was merely a herald to a greater cause. This was just the beginning of their struggle against the night. The Guardian stepped forward and drew out an ornate trumpet, placing it in the shadows of His cloak where a mouth might have been.

And those who don't belong shall be expelled.

The sound rang out across the land, or rather, silently swept through it, for it was a frequency attuned only to the special ears of His pets. It spread like a wind, three short blasts calling for battle, and a difficult battle it would be. His pet was far from alone.

The unconscious creature lying on the ground lay still until a sudden wind swept over him. All of a sudden, the limp ears stretched the skin taut over the golbin's skull as they perked, and its eyes opened slowly as the call of its master dragged it back into consciousness. Mark looked toward Richard to relay the fact that the creature had awoken, but his surpise to the abrupt nature of that awakening set him on edge. Something was up. He shifted back into the normal plane in time to see the extent of the problem he and his companions now faced.

All around the camp, yellow eyes sprouted on the horizon, reaching layers and layers back into the night. At the revelation that he was not alone, the bound goblin shrieked, releasing a shrill blast that called his bretheren into action, but alerted the party as well. Mark quickly ran to the creature and stabbed it through the heart, but it was too late. The others shrieked in unison and began to scurry up the trees. They were hardly accustomed to forest floors, but these creatures were deceptively nimble among the treetops.

Branch by branch they approached the dazed party, each of whom hurriedly reached for a weapon and stood prepared for the assault. Ike slipped, unseen, into the shadows. The uniting of the goblins spelled the uniting of the party through awakening, but far superior numbers dulled that penalty for them. Before long, the yellow eyes stopped moving and they simply hung in the air above the huddled travellers, like stars in the night that had seized the sky for themselves. The party would have little chance but to retreat before long, and even their chances of escape were slim at best.

Besides, even if they did manage to survive, there were far worse things beyond the treasure room that awaited Richard and his companions. That is, if they even made it that far.

The sudden racket and chattering of the goblinoids in their own native tounge to each other woke everyone in the camp. As my colleuges scrambled for weapons I slipped out of site behind a thicket and grabbed one of them before it could climb a tree.

I spoke quickly for I had to get back to the skirmish that was already underway. I could hear the shouts as the battle was starting.

"Go back to the master. Tell him everything will be fine. Quickly now, his worm will be fine." I whispered into it's ear in it's tounge.

As it ran in the direction of the Keep, I turned around and dashed out of the thicket, chopping the first goblin in two with my scimitar.

"Who's next!?" I roared in a battle cry.

" Now that does it... " Hathar cursed in rage. " Anyone seen a dwarf that did not paricipate in a fight? " he moaned again jumping straight, tearing the log on which he sat into pieces.

Various shouts echoed through their camp as the dwarf approached his first target. He could distinguish that most of the shouting folk were those filthy goblins that attacked them, yet he heard nothing from his companions, except for the clash of the blades and sound of fire.

" I told 'em someone is stalking us! Drat! " he murmured to himself, taking the battle-axe into his hands.

Dwarf raged with fury. Even though it was hard for him not to go berserk in the front flank of the enemies, he managed to control himself and tactically approach the enemy.

WHOOSH! A short dark arrow with bloody feathers nearly hit him, flying just an inch from his ear. A pack of goblins on an oak-tree nearby was preparing a new wave of deadly arrows, as he shouted and stormed the tree, instantly cutting it into two halves, leaving a stump behind and the tree falling over the swarming goblin hand-to-hand fighters.

The terrible battle waged on. Hathar chopped goblins as if they were nothing but a pile of wood. The dwarven armor protected him, kept him safe from seemingly mortal attacks, though for a few times, he nearly dodged the arrows targeted at him. It was a tough fight and he was satisfied with the fact that he did not have to show off the runes, his special weapon.

His fellows were into the battle as he was. He could hardly notice where they were or who they fought. Burning wind - and Mvass's fire bolt strikes a goblin nearby. The dwarf smiled at him and went on to fight another goblin.

Hathar was calm, he was confident that he will not be harmed, yet the dwarf knew that this attack is not merely an attack to plunder. It is a part of a plot. A great plot against him and his companions.

" But who is plotting against us and why? Is it the Cauldron? "

He could hardly close his eyes and he was back at his feet. Luckyly he hadn't fallen asleep or Annunahlion could have lost valuable time. He jumped to his feet along with Robin, who was ordered to stay. Annunhalion looked around. Those asleep were now getting to their feet quite clumsily and looking for weapons.
He quickly pulled on his hood and covered his face with the usual brown and green veil.
Ike was fighting and so was the drawf Hathar, but the drow joined the action a short while later, weird for someone who was keeping guard.

He jumped to avoid an arrow, which bolted right past him. He didn't have too much of a time to examine it, but it had a primitive iron tip, quite poorly made. The orcs made finer arrows. Definate goblin work.

Annunhalion loaded his bow and quickly released it into the darkness. He could just make out the outlines of their opponents. He heard a body fall. Success.

Robin at his side was lowly crouched, ready to pounce on anyone who drew near. The goblins were quickly advancing and soon one wondered into the reach of Robins fangs. Teh dog pounced on him and sunk his teath into his shoulder,  the shocked goblin tried to shake him off but the dogs bite was deep. Annunhalion quickly loaded and shot an arrow throught the creatures neck, sparing Robin's work.

The arrow volley was ceasing.

'Quite understandable,',he thought, 'goblins are no archers. They prefer to strike in a group.'

He barly had time to warn Hathar of the goblin aproaching his back. The drawf turned around rapidly with a mighty blow of the axe the goblin fell back.

He didn't even have time to draw his sword as there were two goblins on him immediately. All Annunahlion could do was throw down his bow and quickly draw the two knives at his side. He slashed them accors the chest of one of the goblins, as he felt a stingin in his left arm. The tip of the other goblins blade cut the skin on his hand. It would have been much more serious if it wasn't for Robin who bravely attacked the creature just moments before. Blood sprouted from the cut as Annunahlion faught the goblin off.

He then drew his sword and took up a defensive stance. He had a quick moment to look around.

Mvass was surounded by three goblins who didn't realy seem too eager the gett too near him.
Richard jsut threw off a goblin ad finsihed him with a sharps stab. Ike was helping Hathar with a group of six goblins. Both had a few minor wounds in them, nothing a few herbs woudln't fix.

The battle was reaching it's peak but Annunhalion knew that this would not stop them. It would take more than some underground rats to stop them.
He laughed at this as he swong his longsword at the first goblin of the group charging straight at him...

The battle raged on but it seemed hopeless. Although none of the party seemed to be having any difficulty, there were far too many goblins. It would be only a matter of time before we tire, or drop our guard.

While the others had been fighting, Isildur moved away from the battle, which took much self-control as he was dying to kill something. He began setting up a basic trap. Something he learnt from his years as a Ranger. Nothing too special, just a large netting he carried in his bag for fishing, layed on the ground and tied to a nearby tree, then covered in leaves. His plan was too call everyone to retreat, then when the Goblins followed, he would pull them up. Hopefully the goblins would stick to the floor and not take to the trees again. As long as he could get a majority of them, they might be able to fight the rest.

Isildur: HATHAR!

The dwarf looked over to him, but still managed to hack away at anything that came near him.

Isildur: I need you to help me with this! But first tell everyone to retreat! This way!

Isildur would need the dwarfs strength to help lift all of the goblins.

Edit: Hathar, not Harthar
