All right, now the potential McCain VPs:
Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachussets:
Pros:
Business experience
Executive experience
Might put Massachussets into play
Originally from Michigan, which is a swing state, could lock it up for McCain
Cons:
Mormon, so might deterr some people
Utah is solidly Republican
Used to be pro-choice, so the base doesn't trust him
Brings few crossover votes
Verdict: favorable
Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas:
Pros:
Very good support among Evangelicals
Has working-class support
Executive experience
Is from Arkansas, so if Obama picks Clinton to put Arkansas into play, Huckabee might put Arkansas back into the solid Republican camp
Cons:
Without Clinton, Arkansas is not a swing state
Distrusted among fiscal conservatives
Verdict: not favorable
Fred Thompson, actor, former Senator from Tennessee:
Pros:
Solidly conservative credentials
Tennessee might be a swing state
Cons:
Former lobbyist
Very boring speaker
Brings few crossover voters
Verdict: not favorable
Rudy Giuliani, former Mayor of New York City:
Pros:
Might bring New York into play
Executive experience
Law-and-order reputation
Pro-choice, pro-same-sex-marriage, pro-stem cell research stances might bring crossover voters
Cons:
Unpopular with social conservatives
Stupid campaign strategy puts his intelligence in question
Verdict: not favorable
Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana:
Pros:
Executive experience
Business experience
Minority, so might bring some to the GOP
Cons:
Brings few crossover voters
Verdict: not favorable
Charlie Crist, Governor of Florida:
Pros:
Executive experience
Florida is a large swing state
Moderate
Rumors that he's gay might help him with homosexuals
Not very high-profile
Cons:
Rumors that he's gay might hurt him with conservatives
Verdict: very favorable
Mark Sanford, Governor of South Carolina, former Representative:
Pros:
Executive experience
South Carolina is a swing state
Occasional maverick
Conservative
Cons:
Conservative
Not very high-profile
Verdict: favorable
Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota:
Pros:
Executive experience
Moderate
Would bring Minnesota into play
Cons:
Not very popular with conservatives
Verdict: favorable
Condolezza Rice, Secretary of State:
Pros:
Foreign policy experience
Appeal to African-Americans
Appeal to women
Pro-choice
Cons:
Pro-choice
Too close to Bush
Verdict: favorable
David Petraeus, commanding general in Iraq:
Pros:
Military experience
Represents new Iraq strategy
Cons:
No political experience
Verdict: favorable
Rob Portman, former Congressman from Ohio, former Trade Representative, former Director of Budget:
Pros:
Ohio is a swing state
Economic experience
Cons:
Not high-profile at all
Verdict: favorable
Michael Bloomberg, Independent mayor of New York City:
Pros:
Moderate
Former Republican, former Democrat, so would be anti-partisan
Executive experience
Would put New York into play
Cons:
Not popular with conservatives
Verdict: very favorable
So, for McCain, the best choice would be Bloomberg or Crist, followed probably by Pawlenty, Rice, or Portman.

*sigh*
I really love John McCain. If only he would bring our troops home I could vote for him. I like his policies over Obama's. I like his history. I like his attitude. I like his style of leadership. I wish he wasn't keeping the troops in Iraq because then I would vote for him.

From the CNN: "Voters who say that issues are more important than the candidates' personal qualities are going for Obama by a 58 percent to 37 percent margin," he said. "But McCain has a 53 percent -41 percent edge among voters who sya that personal qualities are more important than the candidates' stands on the issues."
Now what does this say about the Republicans?

Vote third party. Bobo the Chimp for President, and all his relatives for congress/senate..oh wait..they are already there.. .
Now on a serious note. This election was/is/will always be clouded in the future. I am going to call it now. If Obama gets elected, we will be branded Sexist, because Hillary didn't. If Hillary gets elected, we will be branded Racist, because Obama didn't. If McCain gets elected, we will be branded both Racist and Sexist. Doesn't matter WHY whoever wins wins.
It should not be about race, or sex, but who is best for the job. Personally the one I identify more with is Obama. Sure I don't like every one of his political views, but this isn't utopia. Things arn't perfect. I hope he does get elected, but not because or despite that he is black. Sorry to say this, but I could give a fig that he is black.
He could be purple with yellow stripes, pink pokadots, and neon triangles all over his body. Wouldn't mean a thing to me. If he gets the job done, great. If not, I will be the first to admit I backed the wrong canidate. Simple as that.
If you agree with McCain's views, you should vote for him. Make sure you know his actual voting record, ignore the hype. If he gets elected, man (woman) up and say. "Hey I messed up, backed the wrong canidate." if something goes wrong. ((Wonder how many people would admit voting for Ol Georgie?))
If he gets elected and does an amazing job, feel free to tell me "Told ya so!" .

I'd only really support McCain if he makes a hugely conservative VP pick. Someone like Romney wouldn't even cut it.

You are correct. I voted for President Bush. I didn't the first time because I didn't care who won in 2000. I was too busy with my own little world (like so many college kids) to care about who was running my country. Not my proudest moment.

Because I viewed him as a stronger candidate than Kerry with his one-point "I'm not Bush" plan.

Well I didn't vote for Bush, but I didn't vote at all. Which is worse. I could make excuses, but there are absentee ballots and such you can get. Had I voted, most likely (sadly) it would have been for Bush. Yep, I would have made a horrible mistake, yay for being busy .

I trust Colin Powel even less... for the lies he is never to be held accountable for. It just gives me the chills to remember the praise he got from mainstream US media - it was unquestionable. This "uncontested evidence Mr. Powell has brough for us" and so forth... Makes me want to puke to think of it. (no wonder Iraq war was supported by a large portion of the American population, and almost exclusively opposed everywhere else in the Western World)
