Perish the Thought

It has only just occured to me. It frightens me to say such a thing but what if....Bush refuses to step down from the office of president after his term expires? How ever far and remote the possibility may be, history teaches us that power can change a person. The lust and greed for power was something that our founding fathers took into consideration when forming the basis for our society. Let's hope that if he does such a thing then our society's built in counter measures can successfully defeat such an attempt to grab power.

The only reason I say this, current election not withstanding, is because there came a time in my thoughts when I asked myself: "What would be the worst possible thing to happen?" And when I answer, "The thing I most fear is the inherent nature of man to show itself in our modern society at the very highest level of government."

Why would I even consider such a thing a possibility? My answer is: The one thing our president seems most likely to do is not listen to other people. And I have to wonder if that might be a sign for the future. What if he decides that only he can be our president and no one else? I don't know the answer. At this time it is indeed what I fear more than any other dire event/occurance be it geographical catastrophe/natural disaster, ill-conceived wars fought around the globe, or rogue terrorist nations (threatening to wipe Israel off the map) gaining access to nuclear weapons.

The future is indeed uncertain. I don't want to explore the consequences if such a thing were to occur.

That would perhaps be a problem in a different country, or with a different President. But this is Bush we're talking about. He's hardly smart enough to tie his own shoes. He uses words like "misunderestimate". He's probably President because he likes the shiny pens.

Someone I Would Like To Meet

I would like to meet and speak with any single head or president of an ivy league school from within my own country. I am dying of curiosity. I want to know what kind of person gets a job like that. We almost never read or hear about them in the news or from other people yet they have such a great deal of power in this country. I think power of such significance should be open to public scrutiny. If they hold so much power then why shouldn't We The People be open to scrutinize the way in which it is being wielded? I think people of that kind deliberately make every effort to keep out of the public's eye under the disregardful premise and precept that their school is a "private institution" and therefore is not required to divulge anything to the public. Why? What are they trying to hide? Are they afraid we'll find out that many of their governing body is selectively picking and choosing whom to allow to attend their 'private' educational organization? Can we really be sure they are simply accepting those students with the highest test scores and/or excellence in performance? What about president Bush? He went to Yale didn't he? He doesn't seem like the kind of student these schools would accept. Are they trying to tell the rest of us that we'll never measure up to their intelligence and potential/kinetic abilities..........or lineage?

Latest Democrat Shindig

Here's what I know about it: The democratic presidential hopefuls all got together for some kind of pseudo-quasi debate.....eh I think. The truth is I'm not sure what they talked about. I'm not even sure if I care because the whole thing was a dog & pony show directed at a single ethnic group. Yeah whatever....pandering to african americans is counter productive in my opinion. When it comes to racial legislation: TALK IS CHEAP. I take more stock in seeing state troops guarding and escorting african american children into public schools. I understand the need for a Declaration of Independence before a Constitution. But that debate is just about as unremarkable as it gets in my opinion. And I definitely don't see any new laws coming out of it. I really don't have anything to say about it.

However I think this is a good time to address an accusation thrown at me by The_Gootch in a different thread. In it he said I was a "race-baiting cracker". If that isn't a racial slur then I don't know what is. Yet he isn't penalized for it probably because the mods aren't aware of such terms being used. Let me be perfectly clear:

I'm neither baiting anyone for race arguments nor am I a 'cracker'. I was called a 'cracker' when I was in the 10th grade. I recall the experience very clearly. I was coming into the cafeteria at my high school with my tray of food. As I approached a table of african american descent people my age eating I tried to sit down next to them and eat my food. At this time I was immediately told by all the guys of african american descent to, "Get the **** off our table cracka! Sit your white *** somewhere else and don't ever come near us again!" At which point I was told, "Don't look at us you ******* cracka! Don't even look at us!" The worst part of the whole ordeal for me was that I actually was friends with one of the guys at the table. At least I had been before the incident. He and I both played on the school football team together. We practiced, played, and spoke often until this happened. After that I never spoke to him again because even though he didn't say those things to me, he was sitting next to the guys who did and kept giggling and laughing.

I don't appreciate your calling me racial slurs The_Gootch. Your sense of humor was confusing to me until I saw past it by forcing myself to re-examine my opinions of what I thought were inappropriate comments toward women. But not this time. This time you have crossed the line. What little respect I was attempting to see in you is now gone. Don't call me a cracker. I'm not a cracker.

Aculias,

You don't care if he calls me a cracker do you? I can think of a few racial slurs for you Aculias, but you will never hear me ever say such things to you. I respect your ethnicity and your individuality. Those are two things that some people use against you rather than argue your views. I find it odd that you would not have a problem with racial slurs.

People are people.
People cant change thier racial ideas.

You tell me Jake.
What can you really do huh?
You cant get mad at someone who believes in hatred.
You cant change the way people really feel.

My own race despises me.
I am considered a white boy more then mexican.
I am a traitor to my race.
My dad taught me to love my own race.
From my Exp with many of my own kind I had.
I mean some major exp.
I cant stand them more then any other race.

It's not me.
They got me to be like that.

It's dif in the real life then on the net though.
You dont even know these people.
They call you a white boy slur.
Nothing you can do about it but shrug it off & ignore them.
Orless you feel you can back it up.

In real life you can kick thier butts & talk the way you want to without the HC or wherever youare at restrictions.

I dont like it as much as the other people but there will always be racist people no matter where you are.
Hatred about the past.
Hatred in the history of war.
Hatred that has been going on for so long.

Peace will never come in this world.
I mean shoot if Gootchy called you a cracker.
Call him a well I wont say it here lol.

Point is if you get into it with them, then you just egg it on even more for people to just talk down on you like that.
Your setting yourself up.
You may be politically smart.
Where is your street smarts man.
Just know politics dont make you special.
Learn about how to deal with every problem.
What your doing now is the wrong way in my eyes.

Aculias,

I won't let it go because of what I've been through. The story I told is real. I considered the guy my friend. We worked very hard together on and off the field. We talked and I was still getting to know him. That's the way it was for me in Airforce. When I was holed up with my fellow soldiers I began to trust them and considered them a friend. I didn't know them as well as I could but they never turned around and called me a racial slur. It was unthinkable because we were comrades in arms. I was beginning to think that way about The_Gootch because I began to think of him as a guy who understood what it was like to be a soldier. Soldier buddies can say many things to each other in the spirit of friendship but racial slurs are never accepted. Calling names to each other sounds something like this: "Hey don't be a panzy. Don't be such a panty waist. You hit like a girl. Did your momma tell you that you were ugly? I'm gonna slap you silly bi-otch. Bring it on punk." And there were many others but never racial slurs. There is a line and he crossed it.

Aculias I know you are probably the best person in all of Heroes Community that understands what I'm saying right now. I know you understand the line. When someone crosses that line what do you do?

After all the hardships & the past.
His life took so many turns & worrying to the point of paranoa.
He decided to say F you to me.

Yea i understand how you feel.
Sometimes you just have to move on.

HA!

I come back and all hell has broken loose in the sandbox.

Gootch is being typically Gootchy by calling Consis a "cracker."

Consis is being typically Consis by getting all offended, despite that he already knows Gootchy is an equal-opportunity offender whose on-line persona is deliberately a jerk who does stuff like that to everybody, all the time.

Acu is trying to calm the waters, ironically by kicking Consis in the butt pretty hard.

And everybody's completely off-topic.

I'm laughing.

I swear if you guys were calling in to Washington Journal (morning C-Span discussion program) y'all would have gotten hung up on.

Now back to the topic at hand.

Consis, I might have shared your concern about Bush refusing to "step down" as president when his ratings were really high at the very beginning.  At that point, he might have had the leverege in the national authoritative fabric to declare a constitutional crisis, suspend the constitution, and not have the military come in and forcibly remove him.

At this point, something like the following would doubtless happen.

The elections would proceed over his protests and attempts to prevent them.

The new president would be elected.

The swearing in date would arrive, and the new president would be sworn in.

Then the men with the little white coats would go into the Whitehouse and remove Bush as gently, quietly and unembarrassingly as possible, most likely wrapped in a straight jacket.

Hopefully, at that point Bush would be removed to some remote island like Napolean was, where he could continue to labor under the illusion that he is the emperor of the free world.

... And I'm STILL trying to figure out what the benefit of winning the primaries is if you ( e.g. Hillary) can't win the general election....

Hillary Clinton is not the best choice for the democratic nomination.  I won't vote for her for one single reason.  She played the odds when it came to supporting the invasion in Iraq and it worked against her.  I've heard her over the last few months trying to deflect scrutiny away from her choices but I will for one never forget her smug support for the invasion.

Consis, I'm not sure why you think Obama or any black president would force the issue of reparations onto the nation.  Even if a president were so inclined tried to bypass Congress by issuing an executive order, Congress still holds the power of the purse.  Do you really think reparations would be approved by Congress?  Come on, declaring you won't vote for him because of this fear is, in my humble opinion, paranoid.

Two Black Men:

1. Barack Obama - I Will Not Vote For Him

2. Gen. Collin Powell - I Would Vote For Him

I am paranoid. I am afraid of what I hear people saying when their faces light up with glee from the idea that Obama might become president. They aren't talking about all these issues that are the "Measure of Man". They're talking about what it would do for black people. People wouldn't do that for Powell and he is a good man with humility.

Hillary Clinton's voting for the Iraq war is what it is. We were all lied to. She and all the rest of us were lied to when Powell was made to present his arguments to the United Nations.

In all fairness, shouldn't who you vote for be decided based on the candidate's merits?

No matter how you word it, you're still completely discounting Obama as a man and as a politician. Regardless of what people think of and expect from him - his actions will ultiately be decided by himself - not them.

Forget what colour he is and how he will be percieved, or what some people might think he is capable of - and look to what the man has said about what he will do. Maybe he fears the same things you do and has made a vow with himself not to bend to those pressures - you don't know becaus eyou haven't continued looking to find out.
