but here vampirism may not be used primarily as a blessing that needs to be dispelled
what hero would you choose to go for retrib/guidance?
what level would one usually be when one has them & will one have trouble getting there in a reasonable time?
[I'm not saying it's wrong, just curious at what level/time others usually attain those great perks]

Obviously, Ellaine is the best hero for the guidance / retribution build. I tend to start with Dougal, though, and then switch to Ellain or Klaus if possible. If not, Dougal with quick leadership and frenzy can do just right. I'd probably need about 8 levels in the best case scenario - 1 in training, 2 for retaliation strike and expert training, 2 for leadership (empathy - later or never), 2 for leadership perks, 2 for attack, 2 for attack perks, that makes a total of 11 . Minus 1 or 2 because of the hero's starting skills and 1-2 because of the witch huts, its about lvl 8
Afterwards, I'd like to get luck, light, defence / enlightenment depending on the opponent.

Unfortunately, I can never get early leadership along with early retal strike with Dougal, plus I often go for power of speed for him anyway [no haste in guild].
And changing over heroes...therein lies my issue

If you mean the skillwheel it's in your game directory.

Bit of a necro, I know, but I've been getting into Haven recently and was wondering; what's your guys' opinions on the Haven alternate upgrades? I really like the look of them, and when I play Haven I only use them as I vastly prefer them aesthetically. They all see to be at least moderately viable, if not better, compared to their normal counterparts; are there any original upgrades that are flat-out much better than their TotE alts?

I don't think there's any upgrade that is flat-out better than the other (except for the AA). It's all just very situational. The alternate upgrades are more offense orientated (with the exception of the Battle Griffin) than the original updates. So against Dark users you might prefer to go with Squires instead of Vindicators, or go with Squires against a shooter heavy faction like Academy, get Paladins against Sylvan since they have 4 defense more and will thus take less damage (the damage of the champions doesn't count here since any good Sylvanplayer will block your champions since he both the speed and the iniative to ruin your day) and those are just a few examples of the top of my head. I mean just look at the abilities. They'll be useful in different situations. Bash vs. Assault, Precise shot against no range penalty (I for example love Marksmen against Stronghold it can really scare your opponent of getting too close to your crossbowmen), etc. so there are pleeeeeenty of reasons not to always go for the alternate since they are by no means "flat-out" better. There's always a situation where you'll be able to make good use of creature X.

That's a nice summary Azagal, altho brutes' assault damage/chances seemed weak to me compared with bash, but there is a good replay.
one interesting side-effect of two upgrades is the possibility of learning nearly all the useful light spells from units with the help of arcane intuition, even if mage guild gave rubbish ones..would be even more better if one could learn resurrection from AAs

because Arcane Intuition is the perk all knights crave for
Archangels and Imperial Griffins are still better though

While not the best primary hero I love seeing Ellaine as a secondary hero. Especially if there are a few huts in a map. They cost no money, and pay 2 per day per..that is not bad at all. Plus with recruitment, you get bonus creatures from recruitment. Score!!

hey guys, i was wondering - in which matchups its better to get seraphs instead of archangels ? imo i would pick angels always , but still, the divine vengeance might be useful in some situations ?

only if you plan to feed your huge stack of peasant to the enemy powerstack.
You can't cast RM+DV and Zealots have higher mastery Righteous Might.

and vs high dmg units but with low growth and hp (like AAs) ?
btw is it still possible to learn spells from creatures with arcane intuition ?
and one more does puppet master kill the morale ( and the retribution bonus)?

could work but it's much more situational than a ressurection.
yes, it works
puppet doesn't kill those bonuses (according to my knowledge) but orc units get -100 rage per action under it's effect. Vampirism kills morale and related boosts.

I don't often use seraphs, resurrection is just more reliable and never fails. However seraphs have a sweet advantage if you have mass divine strength(+50% dmg) and dv can be amazing if you manage to preserve most of your seraphs for long periods of time. A good way would be regeneration and vampirism, numbers stay up while your dv gets more and more powerful. Otherwise dv will be strong but your numbers low so it kinda defeats the purpose.

yeah, ive always thought that the advantage that seraphs compete against the archangels with is not DV(because it indeed is too situational) but their chance for massive damage through bless and righteous might.
fully buffed seraphs can be very deadly after all. too bad this advantage can be huge disadvantage against dark magic users

just saw something interesting - when u have 2 items of the wizards set
then the spellpower of all your casters gets doubled -> 10 seraphs have 20 spellpower ( game manual ) with the bonus -> 40, and u need 130 lvl 7s to have 40 spell power without the set , dunno must try some time to see if their vengeance will kill like mad
