Deimos: That's what I'm saying. I'm a magog, and, as you said, magogs are usually evil beings. Why do you trust me? You are a theif. Who knows what a theif like you do for power? I don't trust you. Who knows what is in "Mighty" Mage's mind besides himself? Maybe he wants the power of the Forsaken Ones. And Dean. How does anyone know if his mind hasn't been affected by being a wolf? And Kay and Dervol. We virtually know nothing about them. I'm not saying that we all need to split up, but I do think we should watch each other, in case there is a betrayal.

Deimos: No one is fighting anyone.
Dervol looked confused.
Deimos: Except for the Forsaken Ones. We have to be on our guard. We have to practice never-ceasing vigilance!
Vadskye: I get it! Enough!
Deimos: I am not trying to make anyone mad. I simply am taking a precaution.
Dean: I see.
Deimos: Who knows? The Betrayer might be among us, even now.
Dervol looked even more confused. Deimos suddenly jumped. Everyone flinched. Deimos spun around and pointed his claws at Dervol's neck.
Deimos: Who are you?!
Dean: Deimos, control yourself!
Deimos: Dervol, if you don't tell me your true identity I will kill you.
Dervol: I-I... Trust me.
Deimos: I can trust no one. Don't worry, though. Just practicing.
Dean: Deimos...
Deimos: DEAN!
Deimos pointed his claws at Dean.
Deimos: This is not a drill! Tell me your true identety!
Dean: You know me.
Deimos: Sorry. Again, just practicing.
MM: Control your paranoia!
Deimos: That is the best defence from the Betrayer.

OOC: Don't be revealing the Betrayer yet! It would be way too soon. At least wait until we have all the crystals then there can be a bit of a showdown.

The Magog was getting more than annoying. More than once I was tempted to cast a Muzzle spell on him, just for a minute's peace and quiet.
There was now a tension within the group as we travelled on, looking for clues of the other two crystals whereabouts. I still wouldn't meet Dervol's eye, and Vadskye had stalked off in front after Deimos' tirade.
The only two that seemed to get along were MM and Kaylianna. Watching them stroll along chatting and laughing about F.O.G knows what I was a bit annoyed.
There was serious work to do and they were acing like two moonstruck teenagers.
In frustration I traced a circle into the void and Summoned a griffin right in front of Dervol.
It appeared and roared at her, and she was forced backwards, stumbling to the ground, pulling her hood up quickly as it started to drop. Snooty cow.

'I'll be up there if you need me', I told the others gruffly, and without waiting for an answer I mounted the griffin and it took off into the air with another roar.

Up in the air things were a bit better, I only had myself to listen to, and no stupid comments from the Magaog. The griffin did a lazy circle around the area and I kept a lookout for any sign of either of the two crystals.
There wasn't much to see, except....in the distance the clouds were dark and heavy, almost purple. Like with lots of rain....or snow? At this time of year?
I sent the griffin into a dive and we hovered above the others as I shouted:
'There's some sort of storm brewing ahead, I think it might be one of the crystals. I'll head towards it to scout, you follow me ok?

Shadowcaster was slowly losing himself. Those rotten magi had escaped, and with them, his chance of revenge. The shadow mage had failed, again, to do what he had set out to accomplish. He had proven time and time again that he was an unworthy adversary for anyone he faced, and he began to regress out of spite for his situation. Now the old shadow mage was reemerging, and as he fell further into the darkness, Shadowcaster began obsessing once again over revenge for a woman. But this time, his grounding had been lost. There were no friends for this solitary mage now. He was now unprotected from himself.

After the trio had escaped from the caves, Shadowcaster was able to see which way they had gone, but he could never hope to keep up with that dragon. Such a convenient beast it was. He now found himself lost with not but a wayward purpose that drifted further away with each second that he lingered. He bolted out of the caves, but as he reentered the sunlight, the sky was clear. They were gone.

The shadow mage shouted to the sky in a fit of vengeful rage, but no one was around to hear. His only response was the soft echo that the sky returned to the lone figure that was now doubled over in a fit of forced, convulsive laughter. Shadowcaster unsheathed his sword and flung it into the air, combining its power with his own to cast a faint shadow over all the land. Fueled by his rage, the shadow mage darkened all in spite of the sun.

Meanwhile...

The shadow spread quickly across the land.

As it reached the mausoleum, Alivia was jolted back from her dazed state and she bolted upright as the darkness flowed into the mausoleum. She recognized the shadow as her own.

"Perpetual shade? At midday? What sorcery is this?" War said, then looking suspiciously at Alivia. "Your sword is to blame, isn't it? Where is it?" he asked, though he knew perfectly well who carried it.

The assassin queen looked down at the ground, and explained. "Before I was sealed up, I put it in a safe place. I thought that my shadow reaper would be safe from the greedy hands of those petty humans I left behind long ago, but I was wrong. I guess my magic has lost its strength after all these years."

"--Or," the Unholy One chimed in, "your heir could now hold the sword." He had joined in on War's game.

"My...heir?"

"Yes, an unimportant shadow mage with little talent in even his own craft. Not much of a magic user, but he is quick to strike and hard to find. I'd expect no less from the only one who still carries on your line. He claims descent from you, and he is the one who now holds your sword."

Alivia just stood there stunned, amazed that her lineage had survived through all these millennia. The other Forsaken Ones simply viewed her plight with apathy. They always looked upon the emotions of these humans as frivolous, and nothing would ever change that. The horsemen, especially, were guilty of this charge.

"I wouldn't worry myself with his plight, though. He is in no danger as long as he stays out of our way. You had best pray he does not cross us, or your last remaining descendent will be no more."

Alivia looked slowly toward the horizon, though her wayward gaze led nowhere. "I've given up on praying. No god would ever dare stoop as far into the darkness as I have. Only my own blood needs go down that far." Her wandering voice then steadied, and she continued in a business-like tone. "I will make sure he does not cross you, I promise. The shadow mage is mine."

With that, she turned and walked to the edge of the mausoleum.

"Your choice, Alivia. This is the only place you are truly safe. Do you really want to risk your freedom for someone you do not even know?"

Alivia looked back at the five Forsaken Ones standing still deep within the temple, and for a moment, a wave of regret washed over her face as she turned and walked away from the dark haven. Mother and son were soon to meet.

I flew towards the edge of the storm and brrr was it cold. There were snowflakes the size of biscuits falling from the sky, swirling in a huge mass that made it look like the Creator had shook a world sized snowglobe.
Visibility was nearly zero and the griffin would have trouble flying if his wings got went and froze, so I headed down to the ground to continue scouting on foot.

A simple shielding spell stopped the worst of the cold and wet from reaching me, though not all. A second warming spell melted a path in front of me, where the snow had already piled inches deep. Though fire-magic was difficult for me, this was just a simple spell.

I was getting too far ahead of the others, so I turned back and walked to the edge of the storm, it hadn't moved. If there was ever proof that this wasn't a natural storm that was it.
Unless there was some Forsaken One that I'd never heard of that could do this it had to be one of the crystals doing it.
I sat down and waited for the others to arrive, conjuring up a few wolf cubs to play with to pass the time.

Ah, the glow of the cursed forest... Living here for so long, you either hate the glow or you love it. Woockardo didn't know which. What he knew was that one time it's your best friend, the next it's your worst enemy. You may apreciate it, but what you learned pretty fast was-
SLASH!
...was never depend on it.
The two parts of the mylmore's body slumped to the ground. Invisibility... Hah! As if one could survive by sitting in one place and waiting for something to kill...

Woockardo pulled out his axe from the ground and threw the remains of the blueish winged lizard into a sack.

Ah, the benefits of mylmore hide... A waterproof shelter was the most important thing when living in a place like this. Fungi in your beard is so annoying...

MM: Very likely.

*The heroes trudged through the mud, MM and Deimos melting a wide path through the un-natural snowfall. The wind blew and the blizzard raged, but the cold never touched our heroes, as their combined magics worked to keep the storm away*

'Hold it! What's that?!', MM said from up front where he's been making our path. There's something glowing up here, just over this ridge. Vadskye, get up here with that locator of yours, tell us if we've found it or not?'

Vadskye made his way to the front, glaring at MM a little for his commanding tone, but MM didn't seem to notice. He was probably showing off in front of that Kaylianna. The Order must be lowering their standards these days if a bimbo like that can pass the entrance testing. Taking out his artifact locator, Vadskye held it towards the glow, and immediately the sphere began to glow as well, resonating in time with the glow ahead of us.
I felt relief.
I was afraid we might have stumbled into some wintry Forsaken One, but perhaps I'd found what I was looking for...

'Come on', I said. 'Let's see if it's really the Ice Mace!'

I ran forwards, unmindful of their calls of caution. They didn't understand, I was the guardian of the Ice Mace, and that horrible woman Dervol seemed to be waiting for me to fail. I'd show her, I'd show them all.

Reaching the top of the hill I stopped and stared with a long breath rushing out of me......

What was in front of me was a pool of water, almost a lake. Like a bowl of glittering blue ice filled with the clearest water I'd ever seen in my life. It stretched on almost as far as I could see.
Staring across the water I heard the others come behind me and gasp as I had at this new feature to the landscape.

'How can the water be so still in this storm?' asked Kaylianna. An airheaded question, obviously meant to inflate MM's ego when he answered her.

'It must be-' he began but I cut in.

'The Water Sapphire',  I said. It may be contained in the Ice Mace, but the Water Sapphire is what gives it it's power. It must be here, but how can we get to it?'

'We could boil the water so it evaporates?' offered Deimos, in what nearly passed for an intelligent comment, the magog was becoming less of an idiot by the day. It must be my influence.

'No', said Dervol, surprisingly, since she very rarely spoke up of her own initiative, 'you wouldn't be able to boil this water, the Water Sapphire would resist. It would be futile'.

'I know a summon boat spell!' said Kaylianna. 'But I would need to know the location of the boat to bring it here, so that's no good'.
More air-headed babble.
There was only one thing to do. I began stripping off my clothes.

'Dean!' cried Vadskye. 'What are you doing? You can't swim that far! Or dive that deep! Dean!'

But it was too late, I'd made up my mind. Diving into the water I was surprised. I had expected icy coldness, but this water was as warm as the sea I had grown up near.
I swam out and out and out. Heading towards the glow of the Sapphire. I was tiring, but I was determined. Already I was out of earshot, the wind whipping the cries of my companions away.
After what felt like eternity I found myself above the blue glow. The Ice Mace was below me, I just had to get it!

Diving I kicked down and down. Even with my eyes closed I could see the glow through my eye-lids.
Down down....no! I couldn't dive anymore!
When my head broke the surface I floated for a while, spots in front of my eyes, gasping for breath, my lungs like hot weights inside my chest.
I tried again, this time I didn't even get half as far before I had to resurface for air.
This was no good. I waited even longer this time to get my breath back, I would do it!

I dived and kicked my legs. My eyes were open this time, though the glow nearly blinded me as I searched for a clue of the Mace's whereabouts. It was down further that I'd been before. I could feel my lungs beginning to burn again.
NO! I would get it this time. I would!
Still kicking down I felt desperation strike me. The Mace was still below me, and I couldn't hold my breath anymore. I didn't even know if I could make it to the surface for air. I kicked down feebly...my legs were like jelly....the light began to dim and I felt a flicker of consciousness tell me that I was drowning. But I had to get the Mace back. I was the guardian.

So I changed.

The spots cleared from my eyes and I took a moment to clear my head. The scent of the water was cool, and there was light below me. The Ice Mace!
Angling my body downwards I extended my flippers outwards and swept my tail back and forth excitedly. I was doing it! I could get the mace.
And there it was! My eyes musn't be working well at this depth, I couldn't make out the blue glow like before, but I could see the Mace just below me.
Taking it in my mouth I was careful not to swallow it and I began to swim back to the surface.

What the?!!!

I realized what I had been doing. Sweeping my tail? Extending my fins?! what was happening? Was it the curse returned? But I thought Gorman's god had cured me of it?! What was going on. I wouldn't be an animal again! Iwanted to be HUMAN!

Water gushed into my nose and mouth,  and I spluttered, spitting the Ice Mace out, and just manging to grab it in shock. Kicking my legs I broke the surface of the water.
I was human. But just now...I wasn't. What was this new ability? Was it something left over from my curse? That I had unwittingly unlocked by instinct when I nearly drowned?

Suddenly laughing I barrelled out of the water catching the Ice Mace in my talons. I beat my pinions against the wind and shrieked joyously into the storm as I flew back to the edge of the pool to meet my companions....

The Unholy one watches the departure of Alivia

Unholy One: Ahh..shes gone. Good. Now..We have some business to attend to. Follow me you four.

Hastily leaving the Masoleum, The Unholy one boards the back of Deaths horse, and the 5 speed across the lands, racing sound head to head. They come to a sudden halt.

Unholy One: Shh..i hear them.

Distant Voices: I didnt know you could still shapeshift
a small thud is heard
Voice: Neither did i.

Unholy One: Ahh..it seems our friend can shapeshift again. We have them surrounded. War you go around to the north end. Pestilence, you go to the west end, Famine..east. Death, stay with me. When i give the signal, attack

. The 4 nod their heads in silence, and follow their orders. 10 minutes later, everyone is in their positions, behind the trees. The Unholy One gives the signal. They all run in attacking in different ways. War goes charging in Screaming and Weapon withdrawn. Famine Rushes in, silently attacking. Pestilence dissolves into a thousand Locusts, and swarms in. Death glides in casually, and The Unholy One simply walks.

Asmodean: I was just in the water..and i started to...AGHH!!!!

Asmodean is clubbed in the back of the head with Wars Spiked Mace.

Kaylinna: WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS?!?!?!?!

Mightymage: THE UNHOLY ONE AND HIS HENCHMAN! FIGHT THEM!!!

In the surprise, they forget to use  the crystals.

Deimos throws a Ice bolt at Pestilence, but he simply splits in half and rejoins. Pestilence swarms around Deimos, biting and scratching him.  Asmodean is in a brutal hand to hand fight with War. Nothing seems to penetrate War's armor. Asmodean attempts to shift into a large bear, for the strength, but is hit again with War's Spiked mace, this time in the face. Dervol and Kaylinna are being drained of their energy by famine. They have not fought the Unholy One before, so they dont know what to do. Death sits back and watches, as it is not his time to interfere. The Unholy One confronts Mightymage. Mightymage attempts to form a fireball, he throws it at The Unholy one, he simply catches it and closes his hands.

Mightymage: Damn you bastard..

Unholy One: I told you there would be consenquences if you didnt reply. I dont like being ignored.

The Unholy One raises a bone wall, imprisoning Mightymage. Death floats nearby. He looks at mightymage, and draws his scythe out of nowhere.

Mightymage: no....

Suddenly, a voice shrieks out.

Dervol: In a high pitched, womanly voice AHHHHH HELP Ughhhhh Her voice changes, and becomes deep and shallow YOU BASTARD!!!! ILL KILL YOU!!!!! UGHHHH

Dervols Eyes glow red, and she falls down, dead. A spirit rises above her, one only reconized as what can be the betrayer.

Famine: oops....i didnt mean..

The unholy one, leaving Mightymage in his bone prison, walks over to famine.

Unholy One: YOU IDIOT!! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU HAVE JUST DONE!!?!???!!!

Famine: It was an accident

Unholy One: accident..this is an accident.

He walks over to pestilence, grabs his katar, and proceeds to jab Famine in the throat with it. He proceeds and stabs his left hand, right leg, and left foot. It forms a strange Z shape. a Line forms connecting the 4 stab wounds. The Z shape wound starts glowing. A strange blue substance popurs out of the wound, and Famine drops, never to rise again.

The other 3 horsemen remain silent

Unholy one: Forget these people. Lets go

The 3 horsemen and the unholy one leave. After they are gone, Mightymage breaks out of his cage, and looks on the ground. He notices the crystals still there, he smacks his forehead for forgetting all about him

The time mage has no control over his body. He can barely acknowledge anything around him.

Motherdark: “MOVE!”

RSF passes out and falls on to his back, smothering Motherdark in the swamp. She extends her arms and pushes herself up despite the heavy load above her.

Motherdark: “GET ME UP NOW!”

Ba’alithnor yawns and heads for the fort.

Motherdark: “COME ON YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING LAZY BUMS!!! TYTAN!!!! PICK ME UP RIGHT, NOW!!!!”

Tytan: “Yes, Mother. Sorry Mother.”

Motherdark: “You better be sorry, leaving your mother in the slimy muck like that.”

Tytan picks up RSF and throws his limp body over his shoulder the wrong way. He leaves RSF’s stomach exposed smothering Motherdark once more. He is too stupid to realize what he did and assumes her silence to be a sign of him doing right. She never gives him compliments, only yells at him when he’s done wrong. The others chuckle hearing faint grumbling and muffled complaints.

There's a real Dervol alright' I said to the others. She was a fellow pupil of mine back at the Academy. I remember her as a different sort of girl though. I wasn't really her friend, but I remember her as being less rigid than the Dervol we saw.
That was the Betrayer. A formless entity that steals the shapes of living people, if I remember right. And since he still had Dervol's form when he died, that means she must still be alive somewhere!'

Kaylianna looked shocked.
'We have to rescue her! We can't leave a fellow mage in peril. And we may need her to fight the other Forsaken Ones!'
Perhaps she wasn't as air-headed as I thought. Did I really think that? Just because she was interested in Mighty Mage? I supposed he was the type of man women found handsome. I decided to put those thoughts out of my mind. They weren't important anymore for some reason.

'No, I said. We can't all go charging off to rescue her. We have no clue where she could be and we still have to recover the Zephyr's Emerald if we want to fight the Forsaken Ones.
I propose that we split up. Some of us will accompany Mighty Mage to find his crystal, some of you can come with me to look for Dervol. Kaylianna's right. I refuse to allow one of our Order to remain in danger without attempting to rescue her'.

'And what then?' asked MM. 'After I get the Emerald back, what do we do?'

'I think we should look for the ancient weapons that accompany the crystals', I said.
'All we have is the Ice Mace, and I doubt that's enough to help us if the mages of old needed all four weapons. Look what's happened without them, the most powerful Forsaken Ones are freed, maybe more than we know about. We'll need those weapons.
You can contact me through magic parchment if you find your weapons first, then we can meet up and decide what to do.
So who's coming with me?'

In an abandoned castle to the north.........

'Such a sweet child, that can do some pretty tricks', said a voice that dripped with seduction.
'And quite a pretty child, though nowhere near my magnificence', continued the languorous voice.
'Have you decided to tell me what I want to know yet child? It'll save time in the long run. And you'll get to die so much sooner......'

The owner of the seductive voice pointed a long, exquisitely manicured finger at her prisoner, causing pain that stripped her victim of all thought and drove the air from her lungs.

'Still not ready to tell me where those other mages are?' asked Illyria, when the prisoner had caught her breath and mastered her weeping.

'I TOLD YOU I DON'T KNOW!! OH PLEASE KILL ME! PLEASE! JUST LET ME DIE!' screamed the real Dervol........

The Unholy one and his three horsemen ride back to their masoleum, The Unholy One now having stolen Famine's Horse. Once they reach there, a heated debate starts

Pestilence: You didnt have to kill him...

War: WHO DIED AND MADE YOU BOSS OF US?!!!

Unholy One: You guys did..remember??? And i had to kill him for being an incompetent fool. He knew that the betrayer was among them, and i gave him orders not to kill either of those two wenches.

Pestilence: How about we kill you??

Unholy One: Reason...??

War: We dont like you.

Unholy One: Not good enough.

Pestilence: It is for me.

He dissolves into a thousand locusts like he did earlier, and swarms the Unholy One. War gets up in his face and holds his cursed spiked mace to his face.

War: Give me one reason why i shouldnt

Saving the Unholy One again, Death steps in, silencing War and Pestilence.

Unholy One: I have some important business to attend to. You three will stay here.

War scowls, Pestilence buzzes, and Death simply nods

Unholy One: I shall return.

The unholy one walks out of the masoleum, and steals one of the horses..it dont matter which one. He rides north, nonstop. He ignores everything around him, and everything around him ignores him. He finally stops, gets off the horse, Beheads it rather violently, and takes the head. He walks a bit farther, and comes to an abandoned castle. he the stairs to the upper floor. He drops the head of the horse on the stairs, rather casually. He opens up a rotted out door, and finds two women. One looks rather familar

Unholy One: Ahh..Illyria...Long time no see. Im afraid i have some bad news.

Illyria: Unholy..what are you doing here????? How do you like my latest victim??? Im trying to get her to tell me where the other mages are.

Unholy One: they are at *Insert name of place where battle took place* When i last saw them.

Illyria: I see..so what is your 'news'?

Unholy One: Your agent, the betrayer was killed by famine, the fool.

Illyria: I see...So...Did you deal with Famine??

Unholy One: Yes..i killed him as well

Illyria: Not two months..and 2 of us are dead already. What other news do you have?? where are the other forsaken ones??

Unholy One: Grathemel, Ba'alithnor, Farleena and tytan are with that damn time mage. Me and the other 3 horsemen are at my masoleum, the betrayer is dead, and you are here

Illyria: What about The Daughter of the Night and Alivia

Unholy One: Ahh..Alivia has gone in search of her 'son' And The Daughter hasnt been found yet. Im sure she is somewhere.

Voice: Look above you.

The Unholy one looks above him, and finds a vampiric woman hanging from the ceiling. She grins and flys down.

The Daughter Of The Night: Long time no see, Illyria, Unholy..interesting news Unholy, it seems we are all free again. This time, instead of fighting we should band together and take over the world.

Illyria: What a surprise...

Unholy One: Too late. I Assume you heard everything right??

TDOTN: Yes, I saw you come in and i listened to every word you've been saying. I've also been eyeing that tasty mage in the corner.

Dervol: NO!!! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!

TDOTN swoops apon Dervol, baring her fangs and putting them close to her neck

TDOTN: So delicious......

Illyria: No. I am currently interrogating her.

Unholy One: And i may use her as a hostage against the group.  There is a dead horse outside the castle, i suggest you hurry before the maggots find it.

TDOTN sighs and jumps out the window.

Illyria: Well tonight was surprising..i suppose you better be on your way.

Unholy One: We will see each other soon enough.

The unholy one walks out the castle and down the stairs, back outside. He walks back to the masoleum, avoiding listening to TDOTN feeding hungrily on the horse.
