Dervol's point of view.......

We're going to do what?!
But before I could say anything, or grab him he had stood up and called out to the Jub-Jub's. I had filled myself with as much magic as I could hold, and was racking my brain for a suitable spell that wouldn't end up with me being a Jub-Jub scullery maid.

Dean was speaking to the Jub-Jub's in their own language. I could follow along, though I could only catch the gist of what he was saying, but Deimos kept plucking my sleeve and asking for a translation

'What's he saying?' demanded Deimos. 'I could burn these little pests where they stand'.

'Um, he's apologising for entering their forest unnanounced, and asking their help on a quest of vital importance. I can't be sure, but I think it's going well'.

I was surprised, by all accounts we should be prisoners now. All of the stories said Jub-Jub's enslaved mages on sight.
But I had never heard a story where the mages talked to the Jub-Jub's either. Maybe they weren't as savage as we thought.

'What did they say?' demanded Deimos again.

'Um they asked what the quest was. And why they should help wizards'.

I had started to worry at that point. The leader had gotten quite animated and the watchers had rattled their necklaces, as if agreeing with him, and had begun to stir like they were getting ready to fight.

'And what did Dean tell them?'

'Quieten down and let me listen. He's telling them abou the Forsaken Ones. Look at them, they're listening now. They must know the stories too. He's just told them about the crystals and the weapons.
Now the chief is saying that they too have their own legends about the Forsaken Ones.
They call them 'Those Whose Magic Cannot Be Stolen'.
They have offered their help in guiding us to the staff. It lies on the other side of the forest and there are many dangers between here and there'.

'Great' muttered Vadskye. 'There's always more danger. Just once can't we find one of these weapons in some old man's attic or something, instead of tramping through dealdy forests to get them?'

'And what's Dean saying now?'

'He's asking their permission to set wards as we move through the forest, so that we know if there are any Forsaken Ones getting close. The leader agrees. Oh look, they're moving off. Let's go talk to Dean for the full story'.

The time mage wakes to voices calling his name and Isildur gently touching his face. The time mage stands up light-headed and falls back down to the ground. He puts his hands to his crown in response to his headache. After a minute or so, his head begins to clear and he stands up and looks around. The others have their eyes fixed upon RSF worried about his head.

RSF looks at them and then looks at his friend Dingo and smiles.

Dingo: "I'm glad you're okay. You worried me there."

RSF nods at his friend and then notices something peculiar in the distance behind his friend. It appears to be a shadow running along the ground like that of a cloud. RSF looks up in the air to find the cloud and spots nothing but a crystal clear blue and knows immediately the cause of this shadow. No one else could have noticed something like this, much less know its cause. He looks back from the sky into the distance and sees the shadow moving fast headed for the Ancient City.

RSF: "I need time to recover. You should all go on ahead. Do you know the way to the forest?"

Dingo: "I'm not leaving you here like this in your state."

RSF: "I am not the one in grave danger. Our allies need help to escape let alone fight the Forsaken Ones. I will be safe from them in this city. It's magic repels the Forsaken Ones from the limits of the city. Please go on without me. I will catch up."

OOC: Okay Dingo, Woock, DS. You make your decision of what to do next.

*It was fascinating. In all of the recorded history and the secret records of the Order had anyone reported talking to the Jub-Jubs.
It was supposed that they hated all mages with a passion, but the fact that we were talking was conclusive evidence to the contrary.
Their leader, the Big-Jub was much more intelligent than he looked, and it seemed that they had an oral history stretching back thousands of years. They remembered the first Forsaken War!!
They also knew where the Staff of the Clouds was. Apparently it was on the other side of the forest and they offered to guide us there.
I accepted immediately.

After filling in the others we set off through the undergrowth. Most of the Jub-Jubs had departed, but Big-Jub and a few others were doing the guiding, warning us away from the huge mushrooms that proliferated here.
It was quite a sight to see a 4 foot tall mushroom spit out a bird skeleton in front of me!*

'Did he say how long this would take?' moaned Deimos. 'I'm getting hungry looking at all these mushrooms!'

Big-Jub apparently understood him, because he began chattering to me in the Jub-Jub language about the various effects of the mushrooms of the various.

The bird-spitting mushroom aparently has a sticky coating, and birds perching on it are stuck and slowly melted by digestive juices amd absorbed by the monster fungus. Absoltely fascinating!

We tramped along and talked, the Big-Jub and I. The others followed behind talking quietly to themselves. I could feel the soft leaves beneath my feet as I walked and the scratch of the roots against my talons as I looked down at the others.....who were staring at me in....terror.
What the hell just happened?!'

And things had been going so well...  They were so close to finding their allies and the crystals... And then this.  Standing where Dean had been was a gargantuan red dragon.  Vadskye recalled Bismank's prophecy and realized she had more power than he had thought.  This is bad...

Vadskye: "@#$%?!"

Dean(?) gave a questioning look.  Vadskye wondered whether he realized that he was a dragon.  But then, how do you miss something like that?  Suddenly, Deimos darted forward to attack.

Deimos: "Traitor!"

Vadskye: "No!"

Vadskye readied a spell, but Dervol was faster.  Unfortunately, she too appeared to think that the dragon wasn't benevolent.  She cast whatever spell she had readied when we saw the Jub-Jubs, and it was a whopper.  As it flew towards Dean, Vadskye cast a spell of protection so he could try to convince them not to attack until they knew the dragon would attack.

Vadskye: "Wait!  This could be Dean!"

Dragon: "Hurouaaargh!"

Vadskye: "Deimos!..."

Deimos had not heeded Vadskye's warning and was continuing to rain destruction on Dean(?).  Vadskye cast a spell of Blunting on his claws so that he would perhaps listen to reason.

Vadskye: "We don't know what happened to Dean!  Attacking the dragon won't help!  It's the only thing that could reasonably know what happened to him!"

The dragon began to growl.
Vadskye: I think he understands perfectly well.

Deimos: JUB-JUBS?! WHO THE HECK WOULD CARE ABOUD JUB-JUBS WHEN WE HAVE A DRAGON THAT'S PROBABLY EATEN A FEW GOOD MEALS STARING US RIGHT IN THE FACE!
Vadskye: Well, if it's eaten a few good meals, then it wouldn't eat us, now would it?
Deimos: You misunderstand. Dragons live for thousands of years. That dragon probably ate a few good meals in its life.
Dervol: What worries me, is that Deimos is probably right.

RSF: "Please go on without me."

Woockardo: "Stupid brats. Let's get going already! How many decades do you need to set your priorities straight?"

Woockardo grumbled.

Woockardo: "Where's that Wossname Forest?"

RSF: "The Shroomerish Forest is that way."

RSF pointed in the direction of a road and Woockardo impatiently hopped on Cane and took off like a bolt.

RSF: "I told you to go without me, now look what happened."

RSF leaned on his staff to help himself up and headed for the city. He looked back at Dingo and Isildur who were staring off into space as though they were in shock, hypnotized almost. Without looking at RSF, they mounted their Dark Riders rather mechanically and headed off into the distance.

RSF was actually surprised that Dingo would leave with so little convincing, especially with their reactions being so shocked and. Had he not been so glad that he would get to confront his old friend and rival alone, he'd most certainly have felt a bit abandoned.

RSF looked off towards the shadow once again, his friend was certainly in a hurry already closing in on one of the city gates. He must be headed for the crypt, but what would Shadowcaster do there? RSF was not sure. Maybe he heard what had happened and went to investigate. Whatever his business was, RSF was sure of one thing; he wanted to reconcile, to heal the wounds that tore them apart.

He entered through the city gates and saw the bright beams of light. He had been here once before, when he had taken the Pendant and left the city. This time he was not possessed by the Motherdark and the light gave him a slight feeling of revitalization and euphoria. RSF hurried to the beginning of the long ascent to the top of the city. The roads and staircases were maze like. Numerous times, RSF would have to double back finding himself at dead-ends. The city was still empty, silent, other than the soft bell-like sounds coming from the beams of light and RSF wished there was someone he could ask for directions. It took him several minutes to find his way to the top. He had remembered a quick ascent to the top of the city, there being one large staircase that went straight down to the city limits, so RSF made his way to the other side of town and found the staircase he had remembered. Shadowcaster must have taken this road which meant that Shadowcaster must already be up there investigating.

RSF took a deep breathe and sprinted up the stairway, taking three steps in a single bound. He reached the entrance to the crypt. From this angle it looked like he was entering the home of an emperor. Perhaps at one point it was, but to RSF it was the place where he could find Shadowcaster. He ran into the tomb and found himself standing in front of Shadowcaster, a sight RSF had been waiting for every moment since Motherdark shed him from her body. He knew this moment would come. It was different than he had imagined it, but that did not matter to the time mage. He did not hesitate a single moment in calling out to Shadowcaster.

RSF: “Shadow. It has been far too long a time, since we last met.”

The shadow mage turned startled, with a dark piercing look, most certainly not the response RSF had wanted and had hoped for, but alas, it was the only one he truly expected.

OOC: Shadowcaster and I spent an hour or two writing this post together in an AIM chatroom, so any credit for this post is between the two of us. We wrote alternating paragraphs, even alternating lines. I hope you like this.

Shadowcaster smirked, as if to send his friend a false bravado of nonchalance, but the time mage saw through his facade.

Shadowcaster: “You can still pierce this shadow I've put up, I see.”

The time mage pretended to be fooled by the shadow mage's artificial smile, but the eyes gave away the rage deep within Shadowcaster.

RSF: "When couldn't I pierce your shadow?"

RSF grinned. Taken aback, the shadow mage brandished his staff in defense of the verbal poke his "friend" had taken at him in this all too awkward moment of reunification.

Shadow: "Do not take this meeting so lightly, my friend." said he, with a mixed air of remorse and contempt in his voice as he spat the last word out into the hollow, echoing tomb, "I have not come here to deal with you...”

Shadow: “…but if needs be, I will."

The time mage was shocked to see his friend put forward a staff. He never recalled him bearing such a weapon. RSF had so many questions to ask.

RSF: "Then what is your business here and how did you come to bear that staff?"

Shadow: "This? This is my ascent to power. I am on the road to a forsaken, eternal life, and now, only you stand in my way. You will move."

He lifted his staff to attack.

RSF: "Is this what you mean by your ascent to power? This curse?"

RSF raised his arm revealing that of a skeleton. The shadow mage drew back, taken aback by what he saw. For a moment, one of weakness in his eyes, Shadowcaster wished to ask about his friend. For a moment, it was almost as if he...cared. But he soon remembered his purpose, and as if by instinct, fired a compulsory blast of dark magic from his staff at his friend, who simply raised his arm in reply.

The magical energies hit RSF and a sharp pain ran throughout his body. But the strength in his arm remained seemingly unaffected. The time mage watched himself rapidly turn into the undead, the flesh darkening and withering away leaving nothing but bones.

RSF: "What magic is this?"

Shadow: "My magic." His friend returned, a glare of supreme satisfaction glittering in his eye.

RSF had completely transformed and the magic lost its effect. The time mage lowered his hand and took a ready stance, putting his own staff before him. He had withered, leaving behind a shell of his former self, a shell that should not have stood after the assault, but inexplicably remained upright nonetheless. The ecstatic glare in the shadow mage's eyes disappeared and he stepped back as his friend drew forward, ready to entreat his friend to return to the light.

RSF: "You look surprised to see me standing. Tell me what is your magic?"

Shadow: "A by-product of the void, my gift from evil itself. This glorious staff is my tool to snuff out those who seek to stop those like us¯"

RSF: "Like us", the time mage interrupted, "Who is us?"

Shadow: "The Forsaken Ones."

RSF’s face contorted, into a twisted cringe, turning his head down and to the side. It was as he feared, his friend had fallen into the bowels of darkness. All of his courage and loyalty would now be needed to bring his friend back to what he used to be.

RSF: "Somehow I knew you had bargained with the Motherdark, but I didn't want to believe it..."

RSF raised his arms up in the air, frustrated wanting to scream.

RSF: "How could you even think to trust that... that THING!"

The shadow mage kept his head, if only to aggravate his rival.

Shadowcaster: "'Tis but a temporary alliance, one wrought out of reluctance. She will soon be out of our hair."

RSF: "Any ally to that thing is enemy to me. On what errand has she sent..."

The time mage figured out why the shadow mage had come here. He meant to destroy the very thing, the one thing that would bring them all salvation. RSF figured out why Shadowcaster had come. He meant to destroy, or at the very least render powerless, the very thing, the one thing, that would bring them all salvation.

RSF: "You couldn't? Don't you realize that the Master Emerald is the one thing that can trap Motherdark?"

Shadow: "Make no mistake, we were enemies before," he answered, as if that was the one thing he wanted to make clear to his rival, "and no advice of yours needs be heeded by my ears."

RSF: "And then what?"

Shadow: "I will drain this crystal and gain the immortality I deserve!"

He focused a piercing glare on his friend.

Shadow: "Then, I will use it to kill you."

RSF was shocked to hear such words from a person he loved, but he kept his composure and did not reveal a single shudder.

RSF: “And then what? After I am gone, what will you do?”

Shadow: "I will join the Forsaken Ones in their fight against the planet that has shunned those like us so many times before."

This was not what RSF had planned. He planned to reconcile with his friend, but it only became more and more evident how hopeless his efforts would be. There must be someway to shed some light upon this stubborn mage. Every effort was combated. It seems that he would have to learn the hard way, the same way RSF had learned. He just hoped that it wouldn't be until it was too late.

Regretfully, RSF raised his staff and began his time trap spell. It was the only thing, he could think to do. As he wove the spell and watched his friend fight the flow of time as it was cast upon him, the time mage hoped that his friend was not too far gone to be saved. Within moments, the trap had successfully been lain and his friend disappeared into the torrent of time.

He sat upon the ground and pondered. Those words haunted him: 'I will join the Forsaken Ones in their fight against the planet that has shunned those like us so many times before.' Shunned? Why would he think he was shunned? Suddenly, RSF had realized the pain he had put Shadowcaster through, he remembered how he had turned Sheila and all his friends against him. RSF knew not how to begin to apologize, to even begin to make up for the wrongs he had done. His thoughts troubled him, but nothing could be done now. Shadowcaster was gone.

He stood reluctantly and turned to leave the chamber. His friend was gone, but would soon return from the folds of time to complete his duty. The time mage wanted to apologize to his friend, but all he could do now, was wait.

**Dragon. They kept saying dragon. And they looked so small! Could it be one of these mushrooms making us act this way? Surely Big-Jub would have warned us if there was danger? But he was standing there in as much fright as the others.
First Dervol attacked me, and looking at the magical flows, if it had hit then it might have meant serious pain, but just as puzzling, Deimos threw up a force-shield spell around me at the same time and her spell rebounded harmlessly. I had the feeling that something wasn't quite right.
Shouting at her I asked what the bloody hell she was doing?!
Then Deimos shot an ice blast at me. It kinda tickled, and I flexed my wingclaws to scratch my shoulder.
Wait!
My wingclaws
I took a good look at myself, and that was much easier now that I had a sinuous, serpentine neck that could look the whole way down the length of my glistening red body and my impressive wings, and my equally sinuous tail, complete with barbed tail rudder.

I was a dragon? Had the curse came back? I thought the Angel's god had cured me? Though being a dragon was more impressive than being a wolf or an eagle.

I spoke to the others to tell them it was me, and watched as they were blasted by my breath.
Of course, they didn't understand the dragon's language. The only one who might was Mighty Mage, and he was off on his own journey.

I tried to fix the image of my human self in my head the way I did when I usually shape-shifted, but it was no good. I was a dragon, I hoped my telepathy still worked in this form.

'Dervol, Vadskye! I beamed out. Stop the magog before he annoys me! The dragon is ME, DEAN!!

Dervol and Vadskye both clapped their hands to their heads and yelled in pain.
It seemed my telepathy still worked, but in this massive form it was painful for them to hear me.

'Deimos stop it!' screamed Dervol shrilly. 'The dragon is Dean. I don't know how, but it is him'

'It must be the curse come back!' said Vadskye. 'But the last time he was a wolf, and could change to an eagle. Can't you change this time? DON'T do your mind talking trick. Just nod your head or shake it'.

I shook my head.

Big-Jub had been listening all this time and announced:'Jub-a-jub-a-jjub-jub-jub!'

Which meant, 'okay this is too weird for me. I'm outta here!'

And with that he left, though still in the direction we'd been heading in.

'What now?' asked Deimos eyeing me doubtfully. 'Are you sure this is Dean? Should I freeze him some more to make sure?'

NO! shouted Dervol and Vadskye together.

'We keep on the way we've been going, continued Dervol, 'maybe the Jub-Jubs are still headed in the right direction, so we'll follow their trail and see if we spot any sign of the Staff of the Clouds.
Dean you lead, you're the best equipped to handle any problems. And unless it's an emergency, please don't use telepathy' she said, rubbing her temples in memory of the pain.

What else could I do, but lead the way.
I heard lots of movement, but the bulk of my body bent most trees out of the way and the sight of a magnifient red dragon stalking through the forest was enough to keep the more timid inhabitants of Shromerish forest at bay, and my massive feet crushed the mushrooms as I walked over them, my impressively tough scales impervious to their miniscule poisons.

But I could hear the others whisper behind me about what to do now, and I realised that I had to do something about losing this dragon form. I would truly regret it, I had become a grander creature by far, but the fate of the world rested in my jaws and without my leadership, these three were flying blind in a thunderstorm.

It was while I was ost in these musings that I heard a distinct voice in my head say ,"Mother come to the Shroomerish Forest. We have tracked them magi to this forest, we have just met up with the rest of the group. It seems that our magi have both ran to the same place."

I stopped, and whipped round, panicking the others as my tail swept over their heads and whipped up the forest debris around their tiny bodies, but couldn't see smell or hear a thing out of the ordinary.

That voice seemed like it should be familiar to me, like an echo of a memory, but I'd never heard it before I was sure, and what it had said.
Tracking magi to the forest? Both of their magi?

Like a puzzle suddenly fitting into place I knew.

THE FORSAKEN ONES ARE ON TO US!!! I broadcast in fear as my four companions dropped to the grounds screaming and holding their heads.....

Deimos: DEAN! DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN!
Dean: DEIMOS, DON'T SHOUT. THE FORSAKEN ONES ARE VERY CLOSE.
Dervol: Dean, could you talk quieter?
Feraleena, Garthamel, and Illyria stepped out of the bushes.
Feraleena: We found you.
Deimos: I see that, old hag.
Feraleena: CARE TO REPEAT THAT?!
But Deimos ignored her. His gaze traveled over to Garthamel. Deimos's expression instantly changed from anger to something that looked like... admiration?
Deimos: Greetings, Ancestor. Have you returned to rule us again?
Garthamel: That is my eventual plan. However, now I have other things to take care of.
Deimos ran to Garthamel and kneeled.
Deimos: I hope those plans include me on your side!
Garthamel looked cofused.
Feraleena: Bravo, Garthamel. You've never been able to control demons that well.
Garthamel: That's just the thing. I'm not controlling him.
Illyria didn't like Garthamel getting all the attention.
Illyria: Magog, look at me. Don't you like me?
Deimos glanced at her.
Deimos: Whatever.
Illyria: WHATEVER?! NO MAN HAS EVER SAID THAT TO ME!
Deimos: Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt your feelings! It's just that... I'm meeting my ancestor.
Garthamel: Magog, who are you?
Deimos: My name is Deimos. I am the Prince of Magogs and Ice Demons.
Garthamel: Royal blood survived all this time?!
Deimos: Yes, but I am the last remaining, aside from you, of course.
Illyria: So... Garthamel is your great-great-great-great grandfater or something?
Deimos: Right.
Vadskye: Deimos! What are you doing?!
Deimos: Shut up, mortal fool.
Dervol: Has Deimos... betrayed us?
Deimos: I told you to trust no one! And yet you trusted me. You are the stupidest fools I have ever seen!
Feraleena: Have you ever met a fool who was not stupid?
Deimos: No, hag.
Feraleena: Deimos, my werewolves will rip you apart!
Garthamel: If he wants to be on our side, let him.
Feraleena: On your side, you mean.
Illyria: Deimos, are you on my side too?
Deimos: Well, that depends...
Illyria: On what?
Deimos: If I feel like it.
Illyria looked shocked. She even... showed a trace of sadness.
Illyria: Don't you think... that I'm attractive?
Deimos: Oh, I do! But it is my habit not to let women cloud my judgment.
Garthamel: So, you are on our side. Freeze your former friends, magog, in a dome of ice.
Deimos: Gladly, sire.
Deimos raised his hands, and a dome of ice rose around Dean, Dervol, and Vadskye.
Dean: FORSAKEN ONES! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO DEIMOS?!
Even the Forsaken Ones cringed at the volume.
Garthamel: Absolutely nothing, summoner. By the way, nice transformation. Only you can't break out of this dome.
Dean tried. He couldn't.
Garthamel: So, why don't you turn back into a human?
Dean: NONE OF YOUR BUISNESS!
Feraleena: Oh. I see. It's mother's curse.
Dean: MOTHERDARK'S?
Feraleena: Well, I only have one mother.
Garthamel: Enough chitchat.
Feraleena summoned a werewolf.
Feraleena: Werewolf, watch these so they don't escape.
Illyria: Could you watch them too, Deimos?
Deimos: Sure, if you want me to.

Dingo had been mindlessly riding his Dark Rider for almost an hour.  Then he finally realized what just happened.

Dingo:  We just left him…

They just left RSF.  He was injured, and if something wicked were to happen, he had no defense.  Yet, the Forsaken Ones couldn’t enter that holy place.  But could the minions enter it?  Wouldn’t the Forsaken Ones have already thought of that?  Dingo’s mind was about to burst from all the thoughts.

Isildur:  Dingo, it seems like your Dark Riders are much slower.  Do they need water or rest?

Isildur was right; they were going much slower.  He glanced over at Isildur’s Dark Rider.  It seemed to be evaporating; a black smoke was coming out of it, like it was a block of black dry ice.  Dingo looked up in the sky, the clouds had disappeared.  The bright sun was shining down on his oversized Dark SPAM creatures.

Dingo:  It’s the sunlight it’s killing them.  My presence can help them live though light but direct sunlight eventually kills any dark creature.

Dingo began to conjure up a spell; the Dark Riders skin became a more glossy black.  They quickly gained speed.

Isildur:  Wow, they seem to be doing much better now.

Dingo was extremely focused on his spell, oblivious to anything else.

He finally seemed to awake from his spell.  He was no longer in an open sunny plane.  Dingo didn’t know where he was, or how much time had passed.

Isildur:  Finally, you seemed to be mediating for hours.  That spell quickened your creatures greatly.

Dingo:  Hours?  It seemed like I closed my eyes only for a minute.  Where are we?

Isildur:  We’re in that Shroomish forest RSF was talking about.  The terrain is tough; we will have to walk from here.

They continued walking though the forest.  Large black trees made the forest as dark as a moonless night.  Strange Fluorescent Mushrooms covered the forest floor, their unique glow made navigating though the forest possible.

Isildur:  We have actually been in this forest for quite some time now.  The Dark Riders ran a great distance in this forest, running though mushrooms.  Whenever a Dark Rider touched them, their skin seemed to melt off but then they quickly healed.  I think that was your spell’s doing.

Dingo:  So don’t touch the mushrooms?

Isildur:  Don’t touch the mushrooms.

They began to hear hysteric laughing somewhere in front of them.  The bushes nearby provided a well-hidden refugee from where the action could still be seen.  There seemed to be a large dome of ice, two werewolves and Deimos!  Deimos seemed to be acting very strange.  His speech was structured, not random gibberish.  He wasn’t being his normal self.  Something was wrong.

Dingo:  You take care of the Werewolves; I’ll get the magog.

Isildur took out Dragon Slayer’s old bow.

Dingo:  I remember that bow.

Isildur quickly began shooting at the werewolves.  Dingo teleported behind Deimos and slapped him.

Dingo:  Deimos get rid of this ice dome.

This was becoming ridiculous.  These damned air elementals wouldn't give.  It was as if their sole mission was to gaurd that staff.  The most important thing at this point and we couln't get to it.  Gorman seemed determined to fight it off but as he moved forward, the wind grew stronger.  Kaylianna attempted a Carbuncle spell.  Few knew how to work it which showed her dedication to magical summons.  When cast correctly it would summon a reflective shield to block any incoming attack.  In normanl circumstances this may have been the best route but unfoutionatly the elementals caught on.  It was as if they were totally aware of everything that was going on and even thinking ahead.  As soon as she began chanting, two of the three focused their power on her.  In complete suprise she screamed as she flew backwards.  Her staff which up until recently had been safely latched to her belt flew off to the side snapping as it hit a tree.  Obviously convinced that she was of no more trouble they began focusing back on me and Gorman.  I hed never delt with such raw power as this before.  In reality I was never the best at wind related spells.  While I could chant up a good twister and even a strong Air Blast, that was no where near enough to make me a Wind magic specilest.  In fact it was ironic how I became the gaurdian of the Zypher's Emerald.  Gorman was not fairing well either as was apparent by his angry glances and the yells every now and then,"I'm starten to run out of feathers here.  You better be comin up with somthing.  Sure, I came up with somthing.  Running was my first instinct.  That wouldn't have solved much but it would sure beat this situation.  I had in mind that maybe if I tried a counter air spell that it might possibly nutralize the air flow.  Than it came to me that, oh wait, there's three of them and one of me.  That wouldn't work.  My next thought was even worse but I liked fire.  Finally somthing else struck me...literly.  What if I used a mixture of water magic and wind magic.  The two together could be enough to create a storm.  The perfect storm.  It's known that Air Elementals are attracted to storms for that is where most decend from.  It is how they re-charge and where they draw their power.  It would risk making them more of a threat but it could be what we needed to grab the staff and get away.  Hopfully they wouldn't give chase.

Gorman:  Mighty, come on.  What do you got?

Mighty Mage:  A storm.  I'm gonna make a storm.

Gorman:  Yeah?  Why?

Mighty Mage:  To distract them.

Gorman:  So you can get rid of them right?

Mighty Mage:  No, they're too powerful.  Our main concern is the staff.  I'll distract them and then we'll grab it.  First we need to grab Kay.

Kaylianna who had been nearly knocked out now squirmed awake on the ground.  Struggling to get up she looked at us still fighting the winds and then glanced over to see her broken staff.  Since I had first met her I had known her to be calm minded and very true to heart.  Her lack in raw power was made up for but her heart and courage.  Suddenly I noticed a look in her eyes that I had never seen before.  They glowed at first a deep blue and then changed to a dark purple.  She floated up in the air and charged through the wind.  As is with most cases anger can cloud judgement.  I elieve that occured to her as she summoned lightning magic to deal with these creatures.  They fed off of it and for a moment the wind stopped.  So did she.  The three seemed to glance at each other as bolts of electricty fromed in their hands.  Kaylianna backed away and began to run as if looking for cover.  Gorman caught the hit as well and took off only to come flying back down after getting tangled in the branches.  It was now or never.  Taking this moment of standstill I gatherd the power of Wind in one hand while the power of Water flowed through the other.  When my body began to surge I slammed my hands together and let loose into the sky a cloudy orb which grew upon impact with the clouds.  As quickly as the bolts had formed they vanashed as the three quickly swirled up to the raining clouds above.  This was it.

Mighty Mage:  Gorman, fly me over to that cricle of stones.  We have to do this quick.

Gorman:  Than hang on.

Gorman grabbed me and carried me as quick as his wings could move to the rock formation where the staff floated.  As we neared the fog grew thicker.  In a similar reaction lightning struck the ground about a foot in front of us.

Gorman:  I can't see it.  I can't even see you.  You still alive?

Mighty Mage:  I've got it...let's move.

Gorman in responce grabbed me in one hand and moved over to Kaylianna and took her in his other.  Lifting my hand I cast the only time spell I knew, haste.  Gorman began moving faster and a good thing because no sooner and the Elementals were on our tail.

Kaylianna:  I'm sorry.

Mighty Mage:  For what?

Kaylianna:  My anger.  I didn't think.  We could all be in grave danger now.

Gorman:  Don't worry about it.  I think Mighty pissed them off enough to forget about your little anger trip back there.

Mighty Mage:  Just keep mov...

Gorman screeched to a halt.  Standing before us were small but angry looking creatures.  The one in lead held his hand forward and shouted in a language that brought dread to mages who knew about it.

Chief:  JUB! JUB-JUBBA JUB!

Gorman:  Look, you gotta move.  There's some angry sons of...

Chief: JUB JUB!  JUUUUUB!

I only knew some of the language, enough to understand him but probably not enough to hold a conversation or in their language a Jubba.

Mighty Mage:  Jub-jub. Juber-juba jub.

The cheif turned to the rest of the jub jub clan and discussed what I had just said

Gorman:  Care to translate?

Mighty Mage:  I told him that we meant no harm and that we needed the staff but it's gaurdians were after us.

Gorman:  You're kidding.  All that in a couple of jubs?

Mighty Mage:  You shouldn't have said that.

Gorman:  why?

Mighty Mage:  You just called him a woman basically.

The chief seemed to ignore Gorman and stepped forward as if he planned on dealing with our pursuers.  In responce the rest of the tribe moved forward as well.

Gorman:  No way.  They're going to stop them?

Kaylianna:  You'd be suprised how much power they hold.  Most mages fear them because they repell magic and can often repeat it.

Gorman:  Really? Those little guys?

Not a moment later the wind picked up and we met with our buddies the air elementals now formed into one large lightning wielding Storm Elemental.  The cheif put his hands forward and they began to softly glow.  Next somthing equally amazing happened.  the wind began to be pulled to his hands.  The same happened to the rest of the tribe until the three were seperated and weakened.

Cheif:  Jub jub jub.

In responce they flew off in the distance as if they were afraid of his words.  I thanked the cheif but before we could leave he responded back saying that more like us were to the south.  He mentiond a demon that encased them in ice and several dark ones

Mighty Mage:  We have to go.  The others may be in trouble...
