FriendOfGunnar,

Quote:
There aren't really any books that are banned by the U.S. government except for books that have child pornography in them and books that encourage violence against the government.

The second part is not true. There are many places to find and read books of this nature here in America. A good example is the collection books describing philosophies regarding white supremacy, neo-nazi movements, and klu klux klan organization/recruiting/propaganda. It's easy for a person to sometimes mistakenly assume that these three groups are a single entity but in fact they are not. Not every white supremacist is a KKK member, and neither are many KKK members neo-nazis. Some neo-nazis are more traditionally Germanic and many KKK associate themselves with a strong Confederate South sentiment. These groups often agree on many ideological things but also consider themselves independent of each other. Another example would be books published describing and perhaps attempting to recruit people into the Black Panthers.

The books are there . . . however many bookstores, which are privately owned, have the right not to have this selection of books available. The same can be said of child pornography books which do in fact exist. Usually what happens with the child pornographic books: Each individual community that discovers such books to exist in their respective local community, be it a bookstore or any other public establishment, then come together to collectively vote and organize formal public protests and legal process to make the information public before taking action to do away with the material.

This is a very significantly different process from that of the China. In America the process of dealing with said undesirable material comes from the ground - up; directly from the people of the community. They make the deicision and eventually invoke the local authority to act upon the peoples' will. We're talking about the police department and a group of lawyers, all of whom carry weapons classified as "less than lethal". And, most importantly, the police are trained to use 'less than lethal' prudence, and must adhere to not only federal laws but also State and local regulations as well. Thus we are called the united States of America. States are much more independent than other countries would have you believe. I suspect that in China, the federal nationalized government catches wind of a rumor, decides to send agents, they report back, and then send an attachment of appropriate opposition to squash any notable deviants. Sounds a bit like thwarting a rebellion doesn't it?

Pascual/ Suarez   wins the doubles

The complete expression is “socialism people’s democratic dictatorshipmeaning the people as a whole-in other words, all Chinese people- is the leader of China. Here "the people" is a political conception cpmparing with "citizen".There is no counterpart or equivalnt in English to Chinese expression "zhuanzheng", the only word similar to which is dictatorship. No Chinese will ask question like it.

dictatorship of the proletariat
Encyclopaedia Britannica Article  Page  1  of  1
in Marxism, rule by the proletariat—the economic and social class consisting of industrial workers who derive income solely from their labour—during the transitional phase between the abolition of capitalism and the establishment of communism. During this transition, the proletariat is to suppress resistance to the socialist revolution by the bourgeoisie…

It makes me meditate on misunderstanding and misinterpretation in languages. For example,Loong is a deity of justice, not an animal. But it is translated into English as "dragon" that does not exist in Chinese culture at all.Another bad translation is "kungfu",the formal characters of which is Wushu, even Britain encyclopaedia gives a wrong expln. 2 b edited...
now I  get why western reporters in press conferences often ask a same question once and again after the spokesperson answered it with plain words well.it is funny and stupid.Every Chinese aged over 18,born and living here, illiterate or not, know what the person is saying.Giving this instance,I donnot hint their Chinese level is poor nor they are not able to translate the speech properly, but mean they are incapable of distilling "attitude" and "position" from the words.this can explain why they always misreport and misinform China stuff.
You are not able to apprehend the Chinese language until you have been living here for mre than tens of years.if you are a foreigner to US,you can't read America either during the initial years you dwell there.Freindofgunner,I warn you not insult Mao with contumelious words any more.
you can crticize someone, but you can't affront him/her.I don not think libel is legal in global nations, including U.S. and I don not think Americans can or will disparage G.washington or A.Lincoln.there is 3 U.S. Presidents I will not insult,Washington,Lincoln,Jefferson.ther are founders.and there is still more Americans I hold in high esteem.
If all you know about Taiwan is from  Wikipedia, you are providing evidence for banning it.over 96% Taiwaners are Han since 1900s.
U.S.A must take full responsibility for China's secular economy stagnation and Taiwan Question. All factors that influenced Mao's decision were USA military move beside China's border areas.US must cry peccavis for wars in N. Korea and Vietnam and other operations in south Asia.China would have been a developed nation and Taiwan would have been unified, without USA meddling in Taiwan Strait from 1950s. 2 edit...
I doubt these books to edit...
or it is the American unique feature when Bush tried to fondle Angela Merkel in G8 summit, and when Bush met with the Queen? is it America
exclusive trait? I disbelieve it the U.S. do not frobid harmful things against public  and nantional security. I am also suspicious of pests not being killed by insecticide, do american peasants not use weedicide? or Salt Lake city needless of seagulls then.
to edit.
if wanton vituperation were your value, you should examaminate yourself why that cowboy of President even can not be accepted in his hometown of Britain.does your moral standar or ethic philosophy really embody your liberty and democracy ?d why more and more people begin to hate America--I'm afraid only poodle of blair, who is to be forced out by brown ,and japan do not.
Senators' criticism  on China is unfair.unemployment does not result from China's economic growth ,but from the Whitehouse economic policy. other coountries' economy gains much more than Chinese.you can list these countries.besides, there are  a mass of us-invested companies in China exporting to america. chinese employment structure differs from that of america.China's voice  and quota in IMF is merely 3.72% separately( just a symbol) , while us,both over 17%.
The senate seldom blame japan, because japan gives their voters jobs and green notes.and then it is wherefore they are willing to turn blind eyes on war shrine where japan accuses that the U.S. forced Japan into World War II to revive its economy having been damaged by a U.S. embargo, and says U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt faced a troubled economy at home following the Great Depression and the "only option open to Roosevelt ... was to use embargoes to force resource-poor Japan into war."japan considers itself as the savior and liberator in the pacific war, pearl harbour and nowadays.
is that the senators' Weltanschauung and values ,of which the notion they are dumping to the "non-democratic" states?
i might make us ambassadors disappointed . i have not been reformed by us embassy to china.when i was on  campus i received free delivery magazines from both us embassy and deutschland emassy to china.american periodicals talk most on politics, but deutsch books mainly on economy.maybe this is why some germans hope for joblessness but american worry about it.us senators and lawmakers shall bring forward  objective and correct criticism and proposal of china to their constituency.
Either the world is wrong,or USA is wrong.

No. I have never said so. This is ridiculous. FoG may say that he thinks Mao is a fool if he pleases.
