1)Basic Pathfinding reduces the movement penalty for rough terrain by 25%.

   Expert Pathfinding reduces the movement penalty for rough terrain by 75%.

2)Basic Archery increases the damange done by range attacking creatures by 10%.
  Advanced Archery increases the damange done by range attacking creatures by 25%.

3)Basic Logistics increases your hero's movement point over land by 10%.

14)With Estates, a hero contributes 125 gold per day to your cause.

My favorite 5 skills:

Wisdom - Essential necessity for me, as I am heavily relying on magic, such as Chain Lightening or Implosion.

Sorcery, Air Magic, Earth Magic

Logistics - cause a hero's turn is quite unsufficient otherwise.

The other 3 skills depend on the map and the race I am playing with. If I'm playing with a necro, I'd be foolish not to have Necromancy, Diplomacy is useful for some large maps, and I use Intelligence when the map is small and doesn't have much artifacts to increase my knowledge.
Then if I have any free slots I get Offense, Armorer, or Archery, whatever comes first...

Well, I am not much of an expert, but I believe those are the best skills for a newbie like me.

Here is one of my strategy way to win a game.
{First Aid,Resistance,Armorer,offense,Artillery,Tactics,
Ballistics and Pathfinding}. You can try yourself. And tell me did it work on you or not.

It seems that you are not very fond of any magic skills are you? I suppose you don't fancy the Tower race that much then, either.
I really do not understand those warriors that deny the great magic. Personally I would do anything not to hear that awful scream that men make when they die. I hate losing even a single pikemen or gremlin. And also, that Tactics skill - completely useless if you have Expert Air and can cast Haste, don't u think. Besides, something in its ugly icon make me not want it even if it were the last skill available on Earth( I mean Erathia).

Why fire? Okay, thereīs possibility for armageddon in your mage guild and you have access to black dragons, but I would wait for earth magic as my primary magic school with Deemer. His speciality lies in meteor shower after all.

With armorer --> less damage taken from physical attacks--> less casualties.
With offense/archery etc --> more damage inflicted to enemy troops --> less enemies left to inflict damage on you.

Nope. Can you rearrange your troop formations with exp. haste before combat? Tactics is very useful when fighting against fast units (to protect your shooters), dragons (against breath attack), liches and magogs (radius attack) and such. Sometimes, you wonīt even need haste (if not for initiative) if you have tactics cause even your slowest units can reach enemy if positioned in front line.

Yes, and I do use those skills as you can see In my previous post. But Magic is also helps a lot to reduce that damage especially if you play with Jeddite and his original specialty.

Well, here you may be right, but 1st of all as I said I am a noob, I do not play online, only against AI, and in most cases Tactics is almost useless against AI. First because you can cast mass haste and wait all your units if playing against slow moving creatures, second because I also have mass slow(since I get expert Air and Earth magic) and third I can always arrange my troops prior to battle not during the battle itself. I don't like moving my army towards the enemy anyways if it is a strong one, I cast slow and wait it to get to the middle of the battlefield so that I can cast additional spell and have 2 attacks with my fastest creatures prior to incurring any damage.

I didnīt call you noob and I just posted my thoughts as you asked.
And if you wait with all your hasted units, your enemy can cast mass slow on you, no matter if itīs AI or not. Then all you really can do is wait.. Iīm not saying here what you should do, I just say reasons for why I do what I do.

I didn't say you called me a noob, I call myself a noob, I saw a definition in another thread that anyone who has not played against online is a noob, so I qualify.
Perhaps you are right, perhaps Tactics could be a useful skill, and so you can use it as much as you want, but for some reason I just hate it. I don't know why, but I hate it from the fist time I saw its ugly green picture 2 or 3 years ago and I didn't know what it was. I know its stupid to judge a skill by its picture, but I play for pleasure and so I don't care. I I never used Tactics and I never will, and I'm doing great without it.

I always go for offence, since +30% dmg is good. Earth magic is another good choice, with all useful spells like slow and of course town portal - town portal isn`t necessary only on S map. Logistics are pretty good - I hate when my hero moves 8-9 steps on grass ;/ It`s good especially for necros with those skellies that slow your army down. Good for rangers with treants and dwarves too. Sorcery with the wog sorcery improvement is wonderful - chests never contain less than 2k gold/1500 exp and you can get 1500 gold from a pile,  not mentioning the ability to visit powerup structures from distance. Also, there is a difference between 4 gems and 8 gems in a pile on impossible difficutly - sorcery is a must there. Armorer (but only imprved by wog sript, 15% seems not enough to make it a worthy skill) is also mean. The improved resistance is somewhat imbalanced (the ability to down-grade 1-3 units is too powerful, especially when those mighty titans change into giants and blackies turn into wimpy reds ), but it works wonders. Water magic seems the best for fortress - to counter slow and other annoying spells like blind. And this lovely prayer Diplomacy is insanely powerful on XL map, and with the "week of the monsters" cript active, it`s usefull for every map (in the week of black dragons I recruited about 150... ) I like the luck skill, though it`s not that powerful. That`s all, I guess. ;p
And for tactics, I found them useless for several reasons : almost every might hero has them, so in most cases your hero and his hero will nullify their tactic skills. Also, tactics are useless vs. castle sieges and vs. castle/conflux with their guaranteed first strike + mass haste, it`s another useless skill. Of course you can not move your units when facing mass haste strategy, but it makes tactics a wasted skill. ;p And surrounding shooters with melee forces enemy to use something like meteor shower, or burn them all with their dragons.

My favorite secondary skills are:

Ballistics: at castle is a must (especially if you don't have flying troops!)
Earth Magic: Slow,Antimagic,Shield are important spells
Fire Magic: a must if you want to cast effective Blind, (berseck is already good at basic level!)
Leadership: I want to strike more times or to avoid penalties for using different alignment!
Fortune: Double Damage is good
Pathfinding: I like moving freely
Logistic: I want to move more
wisdom: spells are a must for heroes!
Archery: Range troops will be happy!

They are nine: Fortune or Archery it depends on the map!!
