Was he a reviewer on "papers" that were candidates to appear at a Symposium / major scientific journal, etc?
(such as ACM)
I suppose not, but I think I had to ask due to the following note.
[I keep here a note to me and whoever else like it: The book contains facts. Yet, it does not contain new theories nor any long-held theorems (key question)! It must be a weird job our fellow has ...  ]

Is the book based solely on scientific facts?

Yes. Based on facts, but remember that this is a mystery and not real life. So what is fact in our mystery need not be fact in real life.

P.S.: Dodd, since this riddle seems much harder than the previous ones, I hope you are more patient with our silly questions and let the thread expand more. After all, it seems that the frequency of the questions has dropped, which might be justified by examination periods for some (if not all) of us.

It is actualy quite hard for me to answer some of your questions without leading you in the wrong direction even though i have answered you correctly, you may even end up disputing some of the answers once you unravel it all. But let me assure you. Dodd is always right.
