Avatars Vs. The Member
(let me start by apologizing if this subject has been touched in the past... please redirect me if so)
Recently I've had a few conversations about how a member's avatar affects the way I preceive that member's posts... I find it a little funny since I tend to picture the member (as the avatar) so if it's a serious picture, i find it tough to differentiate the message from the logo.
a few examples of this...
Romana: has a scary and serious looking avatar and when she posts, I tend to read it in the same light.
Nidhgrin: I love this members avatar... can't help but make me laugh... got caught once replying to a somewhat serious post with a joke and I was very lucky that he took it with a grain of salt! He was a good sport!
... any avatars out there that you've notice tend to affect your perception of the member???
I'd like to hear about it! 
(oh and when I'm reading Val's posts, I can't look at his avatar... but I'm affraid to say why for fear of reprisal!!  )

Hmm, Jebus, maybe that's why I have trouble thinking of you as anything less than a purely malicious stalker type Your avatar is hardly friendly and inviting
I don't find Romy's avatar scary , but I guess I've also known her long enough to know that thinking of her that way is just silly lol
I find what bothers me the most with avatars is when someone uses one that I associate with some else - it just confuses me

In the beginning I couln't tell if it was a guy or a chick!
It's a little too busy and it doesn't look like a strong emperor or king....

Pan,
I went for the scary look cuz in real life nobody sees me as threatening. 
... and I find Romana reminds me of what my ex girl friend looked like after we moved in together and she went all evil!! 
(so you guys were supose to give examples of avatars that affect YOU!! Val spammed my thread!! hehe)

you kind of remind me of Satan...
looks all scary but inside, is a sexual- learning who he is- and trying to scare -but doesn't really - acts tough but is a softy - emmotional kinda guy!!

What about my avatar?
I'm the sun, so I dunno what that'll translate to. Hot?
At times, I wish I chose myself a better (more human) avatar. It would probably improve my overall look on these forums. Still, I like the sun pic, so I'm not totally against my decision.

Just a few off the top of my head:
Jebus - I look at his avatar and feel at any moment, I may experience the force choke. Darth Jebfoo 
LichKing - I look at his avatar and it reminds me of that movie "The Wizard of Oz" where the guy is hiding behind a curtain and shouts into a microphone "HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ"
Lord Wook - I look at his avatar and I think of 1 of my favorite comic strips - "The Far Side".
The Ultimate Male - If I see this avatar in my tavern, I think to myself "SWEET, Now I can teach my main Resurrect " I look at his avatar and cannot help but laughing. I cannot believe it took me so long to actually read some of his threads. Very creative and full of wit and humor!!
The Gootch - I don't know him very well, but the avatar makes me think of some "tough guy" with a chip on his shoulder.

Reprisal! Some people instantly think of me as authority with big ego and short temper, who is sure to unleash wrath should they say something unfavourable. Maybe it's the Pasis ava! I only put my face into it a couple of years ago.

I think we make the first impression not just from an avatar, but from combination of avatar and username. And I do believe both reveal something about a person, at least at the time when they've chosen them.

Im not sure about you but it "I" was ruler of HC you could bet your *** off that I'd abuse of my powers!!
