from what i see , the Academy doesn't stand a chance against Necro...and i don't mean theoreticly but practicly. Hmmm that skill frenzy, combined with archery, combined with the frozen arrrow they become quite invincible...oh, well not that , but close to that than otheres. i mean i don't say that academy is bad...no way especially that hero/mage fireball combined with those titans and the creature artifacts...but i don't see how at the time u have, let's say ...500skeleton archer(among others) ...with the skill mentioned above, the enemey could win

My review:

necromancy is shown as green magic in this game, so I think that its not so strange to see necro units basked in green. The only problem is that it that they look... a bit radioactive.

Skellies: hmm... not bad. I like them, except for the boot issue.
rank:7/10

Zombies: Donīt like them. This ripped up looks is very strange, zombies have the same origin as skeletons, they shouldnīt have this "frankenstein-ripped up" looks. But I like their cleavers
rank:4/10

Mane/Ghosts: I like them, really. Woudnīt like to meet these guys on a dark alley. I think that there is 3 of them to give a feeling of "these guys are swarming in crowds".
rank:7/10

Vampires: Reasonable. But I liked the nosferatu from h3
more. Whats the problem with them having a sword? It can be easily a vampiric sword, so they could heal while hacking. Their armor is cool, but i think that nival could have worked more on it, like the elder vampires from disciples 2 (who knows them?).
And yes, they are manga characters, look at their hair.
rank:6/10

Lich: GORGEOUS work on this one. Looks like a really butt-kicking lich. I like everything on them. Liches are getting cooler from each game. To think that in heroes 2 they looked like a lousy skeleton with a crown...
rank:9/10

Wraith:I agree, their upgrade looks like neon-man. Just some spikes and a bigger scythe would do it. But heīs quite reasonable, too.
rank:8/10

Dragonur chubby dragon is back. Not that great, but at least he isnīt PINK, like they did in WOG...
rank:8/10

Very, very cool!
One thing that I would like to see (or rather hear) is the Necro theme from HOMM II! man... it is just a masterpiece of music (for a video game, especialy for 1997!).
Now for the town.
Looks great. The thin tall towers, the many spikes, the ever night atmosphere, the green backronud, that moon...
all that you need for a great, cool, scary in the right way evil, undead town. Job well done Comrades of Nival!
As for the creatures:
Most are good. The creatures, especialy the undead dragons and the Lich wizards further convey the evil and death wanting nature of the town.
The skelletons  are fine (like the 1 bood idea!), and I must say it is quite original to have skelleton archers! (I think that some fans from our community hinted that to Nival). The zombies are ugly, but hey! those are corpses, they should be ugly. About that beer belly, it's kind of good cause' you do swell up if you die from hunger, but I don't think it lasts that lond. Any way, they have buff arms and a belly. Funny but strange.
The ghosts are an original joke. Why 3 of them? are they that weak that you must have 3 to get a good creature? but the diversity of the 3 "unjustfully killed" people is good. I think that the ghosts are better then the spectre. The spectres too green look kind of screws it.
The Vampires only at the 4th level? shame on you! they are stronger than that! I think that they should have been at least at level 5. And another thing: what's with the sword? yes I have read about them being past noble gentlemen that kept their human habit of fencing, but what's the use? you are  a Vampire, you suck blood and life force, you do it with your teeth, not with your sword. And I  just wonder... how can you cary your sword when you turn into a bat?
The Lich is cool. It resembles the image of the undead wizard, and the book suits that role. But if you are a spell caster and shooter, why having dagger? and the dress should be a mages robe!, even that you are undead and long clothes will just slow you down.
The wight & wright look cool. They look like the greem reaper! very, very nice. But still, I think that they have been made too strong. I would have rearanged the creatures this way: Levels 1 - 3 - no change, Level 4 - Wight, Level 5 - Vampire, Level 6 - Lich.
I think that that order is better then having the "Angel Of Death" at level 6.
The undead Dragons are beautifull, scary, and powerfull.
They had been made with great care to detail, and you can see the accuracy in every bone. I like the glow of the eyes, although I believe it should be stronger, more like the gloe at the HOMM IV Bone Dragon. But other than that, the new undead Dragons are just great. To bad they already say that they aren't gonna' be that strong for 7th level creatures.

To conclude: a great town for all of you evil loving folks (hopefully evil loving only at the virtual world, not in real life!), and just for HOMM fans.
Despite the fact that I am an Academy lover (I also relate to many of its principles in life like order, knowledge and justice), and the Necros are my antagonists, I have still enjoyed playing as Necro at the beta game.
Final rank 8/10
