Another thing

I think that you could just dig for some relics not just to find them. Also caves should be made to explore and also to get treasures and atrficts. They would be in the mountains. Some mountains would be passible throough a road but it would have a strong penalty. Do you think it's possible?

More New Artifacts

Ghlahds Sheild: +3 defense and gives you expert bless and a new spell( Hand of The Grail ) It is a spell that works against evil.

Sword of Sir Launcelot: +4 attack. Gives Hand of the Grail spell and expert cure.

Helmet of the Crusader: +3 attack and defense and reveals 3/4 of the map for the grail

I think now that in HOMM4 heroes can fight, I think that if you defeat a hero with artifacts that you shouldn't get all of them because some of them would probobly get either damaged or completely destroyed.

It is true and realsitic, but u probably can't aim where  to hit a hero so u won't know which artifacts will get damaged.

... I would like to see new artifacts even after playing HOMM 4 amonth if u get my drift
(1 problem guys homm4 wont use attack defence and so on there are new thingies instead. u can check it out on www.strategyplanet/homm.com on the "interview" thing.

Cursed Artifact Idea

Cursed artifacts should all be reverses of regular artifacts.  They should look just like the regular artifact.  Okay, let's say you have a cursed Blackshard of the Dead Knight.  It would say it's a normal artifact, and your attack skill and the attack skill of your creatures would look like they were going up.  But the damage they dealt would still go down.  If you were very attentive you might see that something was wrong, but most of the time you wouldn't notice.

More More More artifacts !

I`ve enjoy reading all about your artifacts proposition.  If 3D0 makes 1/10 of all of them it`ll be good     Cursed artefacts are needed too.  Unlike in HOMM2 the cursed artifact would have to be unremovable from the hero that picked it.

3D0 being as unimaginative as we know they are, an artifact editor (pics and arts properties at large) would be a very cool asset to this game.  With a function that would define a standard set of arts for multiplayer leagues.   Yep yep yep.   That could be very interesting.

Durr, hey i got an idea lets make an artifact called, "the unbalanced charm of cheapness"! it'll give you +800% necro ability, +16 all primary skills, expert tactics, expert fire magic, expert water magic, expert air magic, expert earth magic, a full spellbook, make all your troops immune to all unfriendly spells, give them all a 120% chance that the spell implosion will be cast on the monster that was attacked, and a hate attack to all units 4th dwelling and up! hows that sound????

have i made my point about ideas for balanced arts?
okay, heres an idea for an artifact that doesnt ruin the game: itll be called, "the lasso of archer's rebuttal".
it'll negate the melee penalty for all ranged troops in the hero's army?

what do u think???

every heroes when u hired them already have an artifact idem of them own and only they have it....i mean for someone to be a HERO u must have a lot of experience before u get such status right??? so he must of had some collection he might want to bring along?...and the bad part of cour si that they can't take it off...duh...otherwise u will hired all the hero just for the artifact....really unbalanced.....

what do u think...

How about..

a sword that makes the enemy do 100% less damage to you and make them do the damage to themselves instead? And also it would increase the damage you do to your enemies 10 times. Oh yeah and it will kill 10% of all enemy stacks in the game per day that passes just for being on the map. And it would build all your town fully with grail structure and all spells in mage guild and you could recruit an infinate number of 7th level creatures per week, and you get 1 million gold per day. It would be called something like Sword of IwinYouLoseNoob and be treasure class.

I was thinking about putting in a +4 to attack too but I think that would have been too unbalancing.

Finally somebody making sense, i love your ideas bjorn. You have any more of them? I think you should add +4 to all because i am thinking what i should pick, i think i would use the sword of judgement.

PS. Donīt worry it will be to unbalancing, because thereīs always the nuclear strike (airplane bombing you entire army to death).

Would a Cleric use the "Shield of the Damned"?
Would a Necromancer where "Angel's Wings"?

If i was a necro i sure would but maybe they should not be allowed to, like it only adds bonuses if its use by the correct allignment. (bit like the golden fleece)

Or how about shield of the damned could work like this
If used by evil you get some good bonuses,neutral it could maybe have a few good bonuses but also a few negative,for good the shield could work like its cursed

This is a long thread so I'm going through the pages one by one adding comments...

Page 1:
Hiding artifacts. I guess this is up to the map creator. I believe you can award artifacts in return for defeating monsters and vice versa, so which one to show is up to the Map designer already. They can show the monter or the artifact. Myself I believe showing the monster is more appropriate. That is what your hero should see. You could add a "Leprechaun" that works like a sage that will offer an artifact to you, for a fee or if you satisfy certain criteria. A neutral chest/bag is also a good idea.

I agree with Mystery that an artifact editor principally shouldn't have any limits.

Page 2:
Black market/artifact merchants. Yes, i believe it could appear in every town. You have to ask though.... If you sell an artifact, should it appear in a random black market/artifact merchants? Presumably, the merchants would want to make some cash from it.

One thing that really should change from Heroes 3: Each artifact merchant should have its own selection of goods.

Page 3:
Thunderknight: Yes artifacts should be double-edged and the artifact editor should support it. Stealing artifacts: no thanks. But there's a spell to steal beneficial spells in combat. Artifacts should be customizeable when you create them in the Map Editor, not inside the game. The latter will be very difficult to balance.

Page 5:
The Alchemist Tower is a good idea. I don't know how it works in price of loyalty, but I reckon it could be used as follows. When you visit the Alchemist Tower, you can pay a fee to examine each of your artifacts so that their abilities show. If the artifact turns out to be cursed you can just drop it. The spell that the Alchemist tower uses could also be provided as a level 2-4 spell in the mage guilds, perhaps in the Order magic one.

Page 6:
Castle artifacts are a nice idea. That would work well with my grail suggestions on the grail page. And yes, each town should have its own artifact to make its own custom grail creature.

Page 7:
Sir Dunco: Er, why would we want to restrict how artifacts could be used and where they can be found? Isn't this something that should be tailored through the Map Editor/Artifact Editor? A nice option would be to include cusom made pictures for artifacts from the Map Editor into a scenario, that would make both the text and the icon unique for a campaign. (That is the custom icons are stored with the maps.)

The Artifact Editor should be very flexible so that it could:
- Let you decide the chance for the artifact being cursed (and let you specify the alternate effect.) This option should be customizable per artifact as well as a default number that applies to the sceanario as a whole.
- Let you specify that an artifact gives a percentage change (+ or -) to any of the stats (damage / health / land and sea movement / speed / morale / luck)
- Let you specify that the artifact gives or removes a certain skill to a certain level. (This will effect combat and movement, but would not apply when promoting a character at level-up)
- Let you specify a percentage increase/decrease or a flat bonus to the effectiveness of applicable primary/secondary skill. (This includes for instance bonuses and penalties to magical skills, and thus how effectively you can use them.)
- Grants/Removes a specific resource at a customizeable interval.
- Special effect artifacts (Type: shackles of war, and anything else not covered above.)
- Let you connect an artifact with a specific quest (Seer's Hut.)
- Let you customize the text that appears when you view the artifact.
- And of course, each of these effects should be combinable in one artifact to make them double-edged weapons.

Zilpheg: No, I don't think breaking artifacts is a good idea. Better then to tailor them so you have to have a certain skill to use them. Heroes of that class would use them, others would sell them.

Coldfyrius idea about cursed artifacts are the same as my own. That is exactly how they should work. qp-material.

The auto-equip thing and unremovable thing mentioned in the thread are likely not good ideas. In some cases it will be a lone halfling picking it up. How do you explain that the halfling can pick it up and trade it, but not the hero? Instead I suggest hidig information from the player. There's no reason a player should know the properties of an artifact when he finds it. A consequence of this is that when you sell an artifact, you would have to be offered a price. Otherwise, you could decide which of your artifacts were cursed by visiting a merchant, which is not what is intended.

Wizard-boy: No, I don't think heroes should start with artifacts. I'd prefer cheaper heroes.
