Eh, this whole "discussion" is pointless from the beginning for a very simple reason.

Religion = Belief, FAITH. Faith stands in direct contrast with PROOF.

Any religious person trying to PROOF religion is right goes against what religion is all about (faith) and as such is simply a moron

What are you talking about, arguments?

*bump*

Today I had the distinct pleasure of attending a symposium on Evolutionary Science in celebration of Darwin's 200th birthday coming up.  Many top researchers in the field gave talks, but the real treat was the keynote speaker, who is something of a hero of mine: Judge John E. Jones III, who presided over the landmark case Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District.  The gist of his talk was basically that science and civics education in American public schools sucks, which is the reason our kids are falling so far behind kids in other countries.

In any case, having sat through all these lectures, I have to say that the arguments for intelligent design seem even more stupid and ignorant to me than they did before.

Anyways, a tad off track but I'm sure you'll enjoy this.

Suit against God thrown out over lack of address By NATE JENKINS, Associated Press Writer
Wed Oct 15, 3:09 PM ET

LINCOLN, Neb. - A judge has thrown out a Nebraska legislator's lawsuit against God, saying the Almighty wasn't properly served due to his unlisted home address. State Sen. Ernie Chambers filed the lawsuit last year seeking a permanent injunction against God.

He said God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents in Omaha, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Chambers has said he filed the lawsuit to make the point that everyone should have access to the courts regardless of whether they are rich or poor.

On Tuesday, however, Douglas County District Court Judge Marlon Polk ruled that under state law a plaintiff must have access to the defendant for a lawsuit to move forward.

"Given that this court finds that there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant this action will be dismissed with prejudice," Polk wrote.

Chambers, who graduated from law school but never took the bar exam, thinks he's found a hole in the judge's ruling.

"The court itself acknowledges the existence of God," Chambers said Wednesday. "A consequence of that acknowledgment is a recognition of God's omniscience."

Therefore, Chambers said, "Since God knows everything, God has notice of this lawsuit."

Chambers has 30 days to decide whether to appeal. He said he hasn't decided yet.

Chambers, who has served a record 38 years in the Nebraska Legislature, is not returning next year because of term limits. He skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians.

The notice part is absolutely beautiful.

Contradictions, errors, and depravities in the Bible
Gathered by an RL friend.

Quote:
2 Samuel 4:8
David took from him one thousand chariots, seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Also David hamstrung all the chariot horses, except that he spared enough of them for one hundred chariots.
1 Chronicles 18:4
David took from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Also David hamstrung all the chariot horses, except that he spared enough of them for one hundred chariots.
(describing the same event)

Leviticus 11:13-19
13 ‘And these you shall regard as an abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, 14 the kite, and the falcon after its kind; 15 every raven after its kind, 16 the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the sea gull, and the hawk after its kind; 17 the little owl, the fisher owl, and the screech owl; 18 the white owl, the jackdaw, and the carrion vulture; 19 the stork, the heron after its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.
(Bats are not birds.)

Leviticus 11:6
the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you;
(Hares do not chew a cud.)

John 12:24
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
(How does it produce grain if it's dead?)

Matthew 13:31-32
31 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, 32 which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
(Mustard seeds are not the least (meaning smallest) of all seeds, and does grow into a tree.)

John 12:21
Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
(Bethsaida was not in Galilee.)

Genesis 6:15
And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
(There is absolutely no way to fit all the animals Genesis calls for in an ark of that size, let alone all the food and supplies that would be needed to care for them. Also, there is no way Noah could have gathered all those species in the time between receiving God's message and the Flood. Furthermore, how are any marine animals going to survive for 40 days and 40 nights if a global flood mixes all the salt water and fresh water in the world into one giant ocean? It would be too salty for freshwater life and not salty enough for saltwater life.)

1 Kings 7:23
And he made the Sea of cast bronze, ten cubits from one brim to the other; it was completely round. Its height was five cubits, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference.
2 Chronicles 4:2
Then he made the Sea of cast bronze, ten cubits from one brim to the other; it was completely round. Its height was five cubits, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference.
(A diameter of 10 cubits and and circumference of 30 cubits calls for pi to equal exactly 3, which is not the case.)

Exodus 20:5
you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Ezekiel 18:2
“What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying:

‘ The fathers have eaten sour grapes,
And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?
(God punishes people for the sins of their ancestors, doesn't sound like the behavior of a just God.)

Jeremiah 3:12
Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say:

‘ Return, backsliding Israel,’ says the LORD;

‘ I will not cause My anger to fall on you.
For I am merciful,’ says the LORD;

‘ I will not remain angry forever.
That you have transgressed against the LORD your God,
And have scattered your charms
To alien deities under every green tree,
And you have not obeyed My voice,’ says the LORD.
Jeremiah 17:4
And you, even yourself,
Shall let go of your heritage which I gave you;
And I will cause you to serve your enemies
In the land which you do not know;
For you have kindled a fire in My anger which shall burn forever.”
(God claims to not remain angry forever at people for their transgressions against Him, and then does it anyway in the same book.)

Ecclesiastes 1:4
One generation passes away, and another generation comes;
But the earth abides forever.
2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
(God says the earth abides forever and then promises to burn it up.)

Genesis 1:31
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Genesis 6:6
And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
(It is very good but he grieves over it anyway.)

John 10:30
I and My Father are one.”
John 14:28
You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
(How is God greater than Jesus if they are one?)

2 Kings 2:11
Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
John 3:13
No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
(Did Elijah go to heaven or not?)

Genesis 32:30
So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
John 1:18
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
(Did Jacob see God or not?)

Genesis 6:4
There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
(Come on, giants? Really? Find me a giant skeleton carbon dated as approximately 6,000 years old and I'll start to take anything Genesis says seriously.)

Genesis 11:4-8
4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
(It sounds as if God is genuinely concerned that the tower will reach heaven, shouldn't he know that's impossible?)

Matthew 18:8-9
8 “If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.
(Where are fundamentalists that claim the Bible should be followed word for word when it comes to this one? I didn't see Jimmy Swaggart cutting off his dick.)

Romans 1:3-32
31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,[a] unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
(Death penalty for homosexuals is ludicrous.)

1 Corinthians 11:3
But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
(Women are portrayed as inherently subordinate to men.)

1 Corinthians 14:34-35
34 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
(Women are not allowed to even speak in church, and must ask their husbands after church if they want to know anything, presumably because they are viewed as too stupid to understand on their own.)

1 Timothy 2:8-9
8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; 9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,
(No makeup or expensive clothes for Christian women. I see this particular rule broken quite a lot.)

Matthew 10:37
He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
(You have to love your own family less than Jesus. I'd like to meet the Christian parents that tell their small children they love them less than Jesus.)

Revelation 2:23
I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
(They can't help who their mother is, this one is ridiculous)

Matthew 1:16
And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
Luke 3:23
Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
(Is Jospeh's father Jacob or Heli?)

Matthew 17:12-13
12 But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
John 1:21
21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
And he answered, “No.”
(Is John the Baptist Elijah? Jesus says so, but John denies it himself.)

John 3:22
After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.
John 4:2
(though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples),
(Did Jesus baptize people or not?)

Matthew 10:10
nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.
Mark 6:8-9
8 He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts— 9 but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.
(Are they supposed to wear sandals or not?)

Matthew 27:7
And they consulted together and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
Acts 1:18
(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.
(The 2 passages refer to the same field. Matthew is referring to the chief priests and Judas is the man mentioned in Acts. So who actually bought the field?)

Acts 26:23
that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”
(Many people are mentioned rising from the dead in the Bible before Jesus; Samuel in 1 Samuel 28:11-14, Elijah in 1 Kings 17:22, the child in 2 Kings 4:32-35, the man in 2 Kings 13:21, the woman in Matthew 9:23-25, the man in Luke 7:12-15 and Lazarus in John 11:43.)

Mark 15:25
Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.
John 19:14-16
14 Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”
15 But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!”
Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?”
The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”
16 Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus and led Him away.
(They can't even agree what time of day Jesus was crucified.)

Matthew 27:5
Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Acts 1:18
(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.
(Both are in reference to Judas, but mention different ways of dying.)

Numbers 28:11
‘At the beginnings of your months you shall present a burnt offering to the LORD: two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year, without blemish;
Ezekiel 46:6
On the day of the New Moon it shall be a young bull without blemish, six lambs, and a ram; they shall be without blemish.
(They are talking about the same sacrifice.)

1 Samuel 15:29
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”
(The passage is talking about God. However, God repents in Genesis 6:6, Exodus 32:14, Deuteronomy 32:36, 1 Samuel 15:11, 1 Samuel 15:35, 2 Samuel 24:16, 1 Chronicles 21:15, Jeremiah 15:6. Jeremiah 18:8, Jeremiah 26:3, Jeremiah 26:13, Jeremiah 26:19, Jeremiah 42:10, Amos 7:3-6 and John 3:10)

1 Kings 8:46
“When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to the land of the enemy, far or near;
Romans 5:14
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
(Who was without sin if there is no one who does not sin?)

James 1:13
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
(God tempts Abraham in Genesis 22:1 and people are told to ask God not to lead them into temptation in Matthew 6:13. Also, people are instructed not to tempt God in Deuteronomy 6:16, Matthew 4:7 and Luke 4:12)

2 Samuel 24:1
Again the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel, and He moved David against them to say, “Go, number Israel and Judah.”
1 Chronicles 21:1
Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
(This has to be one of the worst. Did God or Satan influence David to conduct the census?)

Acts 13:39
and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
(Anybody who believes can be justified from anything, but Matthew 12:31-32, Mark 3:29 and Luke 12:10 say nobody can be forgiven for blaspheming the Holy Spirit.)

Acts 9:7
And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one.
Acts 22:9
“And those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me.
(Did they hear the voice or not?)

2 Thessalonians 3:6
But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.
(Don't even associate yourself with people who do not follow the Bible.)

(Bats are not birds.)
How many times do I have to explain this? Who defines what a bird is? Do you seriously think people back in the day considered the word "bird" to mean what we NOW mean by "bird"? Maybe if they used the word water you expected them to mean H20? What if the water is impure and they still called it water? Seriously...

How do you know the true definition of bird? Did God come down and say bats are not birds? Just because we "changed" the definition over the years, or maybe made a new one, doesn't mean that they weren't considered birds back then. And yes, maybe bird meant flying creature back then. Why would God, for example, speak in a different language (that people will speak some thousand years later), to confuse them?

If I make now a new language, and I say "bird = flying creature" and it becomes popular, will you still use this stupid excuse? We're arguing semantics over here. It's pointless.

so I found a flaw.

But I didn't do that just for it, I did it because this bird issue has been mentioned so many times (and sometimes not even in this thread) and I explained it countless times before, it seems to me like after I post, they say "uhh yeah you may be right" and after a week go back and forget it and post it again. Feels like I'm talking to the walls

Pardon me but I do not believe that is that obvious. The bible is a centurys old book... and that's it. Yeah it's "The Word" according to catholics (and pretty much every other christian group more or less) but they also say that condoms are evil.

If you take the bible for what it is (an old religious book with some rules and values), I personally do not see how it is relevant that it has contradictions. The bible is full of rifraf storys which served a specific purpose in their time... since then a few years have gone by and the poor thing didn't get updated. So what do you exspect? Of course it's flawed. But who says you have to take it literally?
Sure there a individuals (and depending on their numbers that might be a problem then) who follow the bible but that is simply unreasonable, thus I don't really care if people do it. If someones intellect only goes so far as to take the bible for "The Word" they are beyond help.
