Heroes V is available on Amazon.

The 5Mb extra for french were a puzzle for me as well!
The contents are now equivalent, except for a couple artworks and the added french foreword. That should account for 3Mb or so. Then, french texts are taking more space (5 pages more + the french foreword). And the UTF-8 characters takes up more bytes than the all-ASCII english. I guess that explains it all.

Every time you sacrifice creatures the ritual pit keeps track of the total hp sacrificed.On certain hp amounts you are awarded with bonus growth for b.maidens and/or minotaurs.The hp increase may give both of them on certain points but you cannot choose between them-what you'll take is predetermined.
B.maidens on 300,600,1200,2400,3600 etc
Minotaurs on 1200,3600,10800 etc

The russian manual has just been updated to 1.3 status:

It's always a pleasure to work with Heroic Corner team.

And we welcome the brand new czech manual!
ftp://ftp.ubi.com/emea/homm5/community/Heroes5_Manual_cs.zip
We produced it in collaboration with Jata, from heroes-centrum. Of course, it is up-to-date with patch 1.3.

I finally took some time to add a page about the manuals on AoH, with the links of course, but also the credits and some production notes:
http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes5/game_manuals.shtml

3 months after the first release, that was long due on my todo list. I figured we at least have to be ready for the 2.0 launch with the addon.

Hey,

- This may a bit OOC : For more information check out this unofficial site which has more details on the expansion. Hmmm, strange that it's put on the official site and they "tagged" it like that, but hey better to be mentioned than not at all..yes ?

With the cooperation of Ubisoft, Nival, La Torre de Marfil and Archangel Castle, we are proud to release the new "Hammers of Fate" editions of the Heroes 5 manuals in english, french and spanish. We also updated the english, french and spanish 1.x versions to 1.4 status. Other localizations will follow. All the links are on the Game Manuals page on AoH:
http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes5/game_manuals.shtml

With these new editions, we also explicitly licensed the manuals under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 License (by-nc-nd). You can copy and distribute them, for non-commercial purposes and in their original form, as long as you credit the authors (at least referring to Game Manuals page on AoH just above). The Creative Commons licenses are new types of licenses, much in the spirit of Open Source in the software community, stemming from the fact that classic copyright alone does not allow sharing as we would like to. Benevolent international cooperation to produce quality material, and share it for free, is more and more common over the internet, and is the root of this very project. I am thankful that organizations as the Creative Commons give us a strong legal tool to publish our work in this spirit, and I really hope this kind of licensing will continue to grow.

Hi there.
I was wondering about the "Dwarven Luck" skill... It says in the AoH skill page that there is "twice more chance to resist enemy spells". Does it means that the "Magic Resistance" ability is raised to 30% or does it double all the resistances on the unit (e.g. "boots of magic resistance" artifact, Unicorn's resistance ability...).

Thanks.

It works like Soldier's Luck.
Let's say that a unit has 30% resistance, meaning that a random number is rolled when an enemy spell is cast on it, with 30% chance to evade. Then, with Dwarven Luck, the unit gets a second roll if the first one doesn't work, giving it a second 30% chance to evade the spell.

With the release of russian 2.0, russian 1.4 and czech 1.4 manuals these last days, I took some time to detail the manual changes in these latest 1.4/2.0 versions. Of course, all the game balance/text changes have been applied to the manuals. I won't list all of them (imagine listing all text changes in all languages...), but I'll highlight some specifics:

Between 1.3 and 1.4:
- New Advanced Game Mechanics subsections:
* Diplomacy
* Splitting of Neutral Armies
* Raise Dead and Resurrect spells

- Gating mechanics has been tweaked
* Percentage of gated troops has been increased by 5% (30%/35%/40%/45% in 1.4 depending on Gating mastery)
* Gating units (caller) lose only half their turn to call for reinforcements
* Infernal Loom building now gives 10% bonus to gating (5% in 1.3)

- Heroes' starting armies updated

- Skills: added/updated details for Dark Renewal, Arcane Intuition, Swift Gating, Erratic Mana, Elemental Balance, Consume Artifact (now heals and resurrects), Diplomacy, Tear of Asha Vision, Soulfire, Eternal Servitude

- Hero Specials: updated details for Master of Elements, Catalyst, Gate Keeper.

- Spells: updated details for Firewall and Blindness.

- Artifacts
* Some artifacts are now used in the new artifact slot "Pocket"
* Necromancer's Pendant gives +10% Necromancy (instead of 20%)

- Locations: added Abandoned Mine with guardians

- Weeks: "Week of Whale" and "Week of Festivals" descriptions fixed.

- Additional
* Copyright notice has been changed
* Feedback links (+ version notice) added in the Foreword

Plus many tweaks here and there (like the Training costs table now displaying the correct localized decimal separator, better alphabetical ordering...), minor details added and text improvements. And of course all stats, costs... updated to correspond to the 1.4 version of the game.

Between 1.4 and 2.0:
Of course, there is all the added content about Dwarves and other new units. All the bare stats and listings are there, and we're still working on finding out some hidden new mechanics.

- New Advanced Game Mechanics subsections:
* Fortress Moat Effect
* Dwarven Offensive/Defensive Formation (only in russian yet)

The new content being easy to identify, I'll only list below what changed (in the mechanics) between 1.4 and 2.0 (without these changes, we could have released only one common version of the manual):

===[Building Costs]=================================
- Academy/Stone Parapet
[2.0] (1200 Gold +) 5 Ore
[1.4] (1200 Gold +) 10 Ore

- Academy/Obsidian Parapet

[1.4] 2700 Gold + 10 Ore

- Academy/Golem Foundry

[1.4] 3000 Gold (+ 5 Wood + 5 Ore + 5 Sulfur)

- Academy/Mage Tower

[2.0] 2000 Gold (+ 1 Wood + 1 Ore + 1 Mercury + 1 Crystal + 1 Sulfur + 1 Gems)
[1.4] 3000 Gold (+ 1 Wood + 1 Ore + 1 Mercury + 1 Crystal + 1 Sulfur + 1 Gems)

===[Creatures]======================================
- War Dancer
Power: 305 (instead of 315 in 1.4)
Experience given on kill: 28 (instead of 29 in 1.4)

- Isabel is now "Dragonblessed" ("Suzerain" in 1.4)

- Freyda now starts with "Basic Light Magic" instead of "Tactics"
- Laszlo turned to "Red Laszlo", and starts with "Basic Attack" and "Tactics" instead of "Basic Defense" and "Vitality". He now starts with the "Haste" spell.
(Note that the "old" heroes are still in the files and could appear on maps as well)

===[Skills]=========================================
- Expert Attack now gives 20% bonus to melee damage (15% in 1.4)

===[Spells]=========================================
- Eldritch Arrow is now linked to the "Fire" element (none in 1.4)

- Firewall
Duration is now always 3 turns (equal to caster's Spellpower in 1.4)
Damage has been reduced to (depending on mastery):
[2.0] 9+9*Power / 11+11*Power / 13+13*Power / 15+15*Power
instead of

The damage dealing mechanics has also been tweaked.

===[Weeks]==========================================
A few "Weeks of Nothing" have been replaced by the dwarven creatures growth boosting weeks.

Hadn't noticed the new academy costs.That and the improvement of attack are very welcome! As for the firewall we'll see.At least now it can be cast on creatures which makes it useful.

The czech 2.0 manual is now available, with all the Dwarven content. On the technical side, the pdf file now features bookmarks for easier navigation. Manuals in other languages will also include bookmarks when they get updated (most likely with patch 2.1).

Edit: The polish manuals are also available now, after quite some time of development. I added the 2.0 (Hammers of Fate) and 1.4 versions to the manuals page. The localization has been done by morthi and his team, and sponsored by Jaskinia Behemota.

I have some skill questions:

Does soldier's luck affect blackbear riders or skirmishers?

What's with mentoring?A lvl 16 hero will turn a low lvl one into 4?

On eternal light:Casting a dark spell over a buff will cancel each other out?Afaik casting slow over haste will have a unit just slowed,is this the case with eternal light?

Dwarven luck doubles the chance of resistance ability or does it take into account other modifiers too?(etc artifacts,natural resistance)

Distract:How does it interract with enemy hero using sorcery?If he has advanced sorcery he then casts at initiative 10?

Keep up the good work!

I am actually adding all these into the manual right now, to be ready for the 2.1 update.
Anyway, here are your answers:

- Paw Strike (blackbear riders) works like Bash.
Crippling Wound (Spearwielder, Skirmisher) works like Blinding Attack.
Mark of Fire (Rune Priest, Rune Patriarch) works like Fear Attack.
All of these are affected by Soldier's Luck.
Note that Soldier's Luck works with Rune of Thunderclap as well.

- Mentoring: the lower level hero grows to 25% experience. That's better than what you say: a level 16 hero has between 40567 and 48279 experience, let's say 44000. Then, the other hero will instantly have 11000 experience (provided he had less), making him a level 8  hero.
If the first hero has 1,000,000 experience (level 30), the other will have 250,000 xp (level 26).

- Eternal Light: (answer edited - it was not correct)
With Eternal Light, once Haste (or any other Light Magic blessing) is cast, Slow (the opposite curse) can not be cast on the unit. The unit becomes immune to the curse.
Only Harm Touch (the Wraith ability) can dispel Light spells protected by Eternal Light.

- Dwarven Luck works like Soldier's Luck: magic resistance gets 2 chances to trigger instead of one.

- Sorcery actually works by resetting the ATB value to 0.1/0.2/0.3 instead of 0 after casting a spell.
Distract decreases the enemy ATB value by 0.2 when resetting after casting a spell. Without Sorcery, that's usually -0.2. With Expert Sorcery, that's 0.3-0.2=0.1. When casting a mass spell, that's 0.5-0.2=0.3.

Credits for those findings go to alexrom66 and his russian team for most of those.
If you want more, just ask.

One more question though:
Quote:

Mark of Fire (Rune Priest, Rune Patriarch) works like Fear Attack.

What's different between blinding attack and fear attack?My bet is one of them calculates the chance before the attack takes place but if so which one?
And does mark of fire work with firewall?Seems convenient that rune patriarchs have it.I suppose master of fire doesn't.
