How about the resistent?
Is Aura of Magic Resistance(Unicorn) cumulative?
And how about the relationship of Magic Resistance,Boots of Magical Defense and Marbas's specialization (Spellbreaker)

That's a good question, and one of the things I planned to add, as the Magic Protection/Resistance issues are easy to confuse (and in some languages, in-game texts themselves are confused!).

- Magic Protection (P) reduces spell damage. Different protections are added through the following formula:
1-P = (1-P1)(1-P2)...(1-Pn)

Effects include: Protection (Defense), Boneward (Sorcery), Sap Magic (Destructive Magic), Magic Protection from mini-artifacts, 50% cold/fire/lightning protection artifacts...

Note: if you wear 2 rings of Lightning Protection, the bonus applies only once.

- Magic Resistance (R) gives a chance to evade spells completely. Different resistances are simply added:
R = R1 + R2 + ... + Rn

Effects include: Magic Resistance (Luck), Spellbreaker (Marbas), Aura of Magic Resistance (Unicorn), Armor of the Forgotten Hero (artifact)...

Note: What about having 2 adjacent stacks of Unicorns? Do the 2 bonuses add up? I don't have the answer yet. If anyone tests it, let me know.

- Magic Immunity = 100% Protection = 100% Resistance

- Irresistible Magic: a fraction of the spell damage always goes through, even with resistances, protections and immunities.

example: 40% Irresistible Magic (Advanced), target has 15% Magic Resistance and 70% Magic Protection
* if the resistance triggers (15% chance): the target should be immune (=100% protection), but 40% of it is negated by IM. Only 60% protection remains. 40% of the normal damage is dealt.
* if resistance does not trigger (85% chance): the target is hit by the spell. Its 70% protection is partly negated by IM, and only 70%*(1-0.4)=36% remains. 64% of the normal spell damage is dealt.

I test it some days.
six stacks unicorn  around 1 stack deep hydra in a siege, and faiz cast 50 times eldritch arrow on deep hydra.Success 40,fail 10.
So I think the possibility of the bonus is little though I haven't test a large amount

My own tests (with about the same statistics) show a 30% magic resistance, with 4 adjacent stacks of Silver Unicorns. I think yours is close enough as well. So it seems that the 30% resistance from Unicorns do not stack: you only get it once, no matter how much stacks are adjacent.

That is really good to know, thanks for finding it out! Because I often use that split atleast 1 unicorn for "more" resistance against casters.

Sfidanza,

Is your Pdf document/manual fully convertable to Adobe Reader 8.01?

Just asking. And, to add more info. to the upto date with their every day apps. people reading these posts of today.

I did downloaded it, did go for the full 50Mb one. Silly me. Found it in my My Books' folder of My Documents' Main Start Menu Links.

And, that is nothing compared to the joke of the situation going on onto the standardization of the newest HD installations within the newest PCs on the market today. I mean, come-on, who the hell will ever need a third of a Terabyte of storage anyway? 350 Gigabytes?

I filled only 29% of an 80 Gigabytes HD. Took me 3 to 4 years to do so.

@LucJPatenaude: the files can of course be opened in Adobe Reader 8. Other than that, I have no idea what you mean.

@syberpuppy: the first reason is that I never played it myself. The second is that there was not much demand for it. A third is that it's one of the few features actually described in Ubi original booklet in the disc box. However, if you stumble upon a nice resource or thread about it, feel free to let me know.

i'm in the middle of trying that out 4 the first time myself, and it really isnt that much of a good change to the game, nor does it does what it was built for (much)...  it doing a very lousy job in shortening the waiting time 4 other players, but it's still a whole part of the game that i know little of, so if ill find some info on it ill share

I'm also curious as to how the scores are calculated in campaigns.

Also, I noticed that in the manual, the spell power charts of the creatures don't include rune priests/patriarchs, mummies, or zealots.

The icons are not in the table header for space reasons, but their growth is indicated in the list (growth=3 for all of them actually), so you just have to refer to the corresponding column. That's in the 2.x manual of course.

BRAVO! Excellent work! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this. It answered a lot of questions I had and explained numerous little things that I had previously wondered about.

With some delay, the spanish 2.1 version is now available, in collaboration with the team La Torre de Marfil. If you're spanish, drop a word of appreciation on their forum:

And congratulations to them for their new url:

1.5 updates of the manuals are coming up. en/fr/cs are already available on the manuals page. Have a look at the changelogs for more info.

Edit (22/05/07): es/ru have just been released as well.

--  I thought that it would be pointless to download this manual, but I WAS WRONG.
--  This is both beautifully designed and it is also full of wonderful new things. I might be a noob but this is the first time I've read about the "castle wall's - 50% range damage penalty" the special abilities of each castle depending on their names (Was this in the previous HOMM games as well? I mean this castle name thing.) and many many more cool things.
-- Thank you very much for all those who sacrificed their time to create this Guide for lazy players like myself. It's the best I've ever seen.

-- Believe it or not THIS manual is really magnificent  even if you know all the information it contains cause those wonderful art works and the splendid design make it worth downloading.
-- At first (before I've downloaded it) I thought that it would be useless but I had to find out that I WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG! It is a MASTERPIECE.
-- And anyways it is impolite to say that something is "useless" when a lot of enthusiastic fans did their best to create it in order to help less experienced players. Even if you knew about all the things in it (which I doubt -> DO YOU KNOW THE SPECIAL EFFECTS OF EACH CASTLE DEPENDING ON THEIR NAMES??????) __YOU___SHOULD___SHOW___SOME ______RESPECT_______!!!!!!
-
-
-- P.S.: And judging by your post I think you haven't even downloaded the manual yet. So HOW can you decide if something is good or bad if YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN IT???? SELF-CONFIDENCE isn't the same as ARROGANCE...
-- EDIT: There were some typo in it so I had to fix it...

Moderator's note: Thanx for supporting the manual development team as they have fully deserved. Let's close the discussion on the former post here.

Are defence bonuses from the defence value and from defence skill cumulative or they are applied one after another? For example I was attacked by high level knight with paladins which had almost 70 defence. So they definitely had the max 40% reduction from defence and they probably had 30% more reduction from expert defence. So does they receive only 30% (40%+30% cumulative reduction) from the damage or they recieve 42%?
