I doubt I'd want to replay it on a harder version though, single player is not as appealing as it used to be for me.

It'll be worth the frustration in Book 2 because there's going to be an underwater faction to play around with.  Looks like it'll actually be a Dark Elf campaign, but I'm almost certain that the Sylvans will be playable at some point too.  I can also mention that the story will be linked to both Heroes IV and Might and Magic IX.  I've got some pretty good guesses about what will happen in it but I'm not going to spoil it all for newcomers.

No, I meant about the re-releasing book 1 to be harder in some places. I had seen the notes and it seems we'll get a boss in the final stage
I just am not interested in playing this over again after so short notice.

I finished first 2 missions and I think that they are way more interesting and challenging if they are played to be finished fast.
For example, 2nd mission = no time limit = AI can be owergrowthed easily = piece of cake = no challange.
I recommend using log, war machines, dark and summoning(fire warriors, phoenix) and trying to win fast.

1 tip:
Getting Sandro's cloak from a sphinx in mission 2 makes all the difference.

Am i the only one who actully find this more challenging then Nival's campaigns`? Only on the 3rd map - but i find it more... Hard - And love those new heroes(which is old but it gives the game great twist of the old days meeting the new days)

I sorta knew that, I just thought I'd spill a little on the second installment, simply because I like speculating.  If you check the Readme for Book 1 you'll see it's due out this month.  Can't wait, personally.

You're not alone.  I'm still stuck on that map.  I think I could finish it pretty easily if I had the patience, but my computer runs it really slowly...

Yeah I agree.  I especially like Gauldoth myself, even if the armour is a little wrong for his character.  Mainly because he's like Sandro, only far smarter.

He's nothing like Sandro. He does not have this thirst for power and believes is peaceful coexistence even. He's a survivor but with respect to those around him.

That's exactly what I meant when I said 'smarter'.  He has the brains to respect his enemies and to plan his every move, and has the wisdom to see that power does not lead to greatness.  By saying he is like Sandro, I meant that he is likeable in a dark, twisted sort of way.  On a side note, Sandro in Might and Magic VIII is much less power-crazed than he was during Shadow of Death, acting as a leader for the Necromancers' Guild and even helping the main heroes against a far greater threat.  Like Gauldoth, he too appears to have learned from the past.

Anyway I hope they decide to go into the whole 'God of Death' thing at the end of Gauldoth's Heroes IV campaign.  It'd be nice to know who exactly that guy was.

I actually like the fact that it was never elaborated, besides Gauldoth felt it was the plane of death. The only thing I wonder is how Calibbar came to have such a 'friend'.

What about Emilia? I just puppeted them and from that point it was easy. I had expert dark, summoning and light plus finished the quest for the extra knowledge. You can't fight Malustar with might, build your guilds, use artificer and buy artifacts from the merchants.

You can't, when you kill a hero he respawns next week. Around month 2 the haven forces stop being hostile and wander around. At the time I had defeated Lysander a few times but it's no use he always comes back - try to survive until then.

I had some hard time with the mission but i managed, when Malustar came i had Arkenia left and a HUGE haven army approaching since i only killed Lysander on the first week. So i took Emilia and led Lysander away from the castle to the direction of Malustar and then headed for the sanctuary. Ironicly, my enemy proved to be my best ally when Malustar and his army were whiped out by the massive Haven army and the mission was over. Not only did i manage to avoid haven for two months, i even used them to win me the game.

It'll be out this month according to some reliable sources, namely the outro event at the end of map 6.

I did that, for experience sake. I didn't know (from other comments) that Lysander was being nice and wandering around in the last weeks before Malustar arrived. The hardest battle with Lysander was only the first one, after that I always crushed his armies with casualties dozens of grems or couples of golems each battle. No harm done to my high-level tier.

Here's what I did:
1. By the time Malustar arrived, you should have an array of massive armies, more than 7 stacks for your final hero to fight the demons. Line ups these armies with your heroes other than Emilia/Solmyr after the second garrison. Hundreds of archers, squires, golems, skirms etc. True, these are low-level tier. But the purpose is not to beat Malustar, only to hurt his army.
2. Fill in the garrison with more creatures, especially Ranis. This will also hurt Malustar's army.
3. Prepare Emilia or Solmyr in Arkenia with Titans, Angels, Thanes, Griffins etc. Make sure your best hero reach level 20 to get town portal, hence when demons arrive can quickly return to Arkenia.
4. In my case, when Malustar reached Arkenia, what's left with him were only 40+ succubis, and several pit lords and demons

What makes me sad with this campaign is to fight my own Malustar. I actually planned to build him to reach Urgash's Call, but what would be the point of that if at the end of the story he becomes your formidable enemy?

Then again, who knows what the end would like...
