Well, the AI is stupid sometimes. In an actual battle it's ok for me, however theres something really, and I mean really wrong with it's fleeing timing. A short while ago I fought an AI Ingvar on expert (from an AI tweaking mod, it's comparable to hard) who had a (slightly) smaller army than I had but was pretty good with destructive magic. Guess what he does the first opportunity he can make a move? He flees. Not surrendering, but fleeing, so he wastes his entire 100+K worth army in the process, while he could have wrecked a significant portion of my army with his spells and creatures before I would have completely defeated him.

But what I hate most about it is that it completely kills all the fun. After all, hero vs. hero fights are what this game ultimately is about, and this stupid AI behavior makes exactly that part of the game boring and predictable. You will either be completely crushed by a gigantic AI army that it assembled through cheating (which the AI does on hard and above) or you will crush the AI completely while barely scratching his armies because he flees before you can even get in a single hit.

I've heard the AI isn't sich a coward on normal though, however that's simply too easy for me so that's not an option either

@Thanatos some people like to use the console to give themselves the Shackles to avoid this problem.

That could be a solution, but that sounds rather unfair too as then you will always get the enemy heroes' artifacts and the AI player always loses his hero when you win... no, for me the only real solution would be to tweak the AI fleeing behavior.

A pity Well, I'm not even going to try myself, that will most likely end up in the game being corrupted beyond any repair Perhaps I should look into multiplayer sometime, only problem is that the games take such a long time to complete...

My last game took 2.5 hours.  Heritage of Deleb...a very close final fight.

They are not that long, unless you play sylvan vs fortress .My game usualy takes 2-4 hours, but maybe thats because I play earlygame factions like inferno and necropolis.

I think that this has been said before, but I prefer to clear out entire maps before I close it out. I even like to find the tear of asha (if it's on the map) rather than beat my opponent before I can find it.

Can't do any of this in multiplayer. As I said on the first page of this topic, I only played hotseat, and I have been doing this since HoMM1. The adventuremap AI in this game is a disgrace. Rarely am I challenged even in a campaign map when the computer has obscene numbers at the end of a fight. The last map on the HoMM5 campaign was a joke, for example.

Well then the last map of the heroes 2 campaign was a joke.  You get 8 castles to the enemies 1 castle.

I'll repeat it again.  NONE of the heroes games have good ai.  They also all have their own peculiar breaks.  Just enjoy the darn games and modify what you have to to make it better.  Can't expect anything more from the developer.  That's the way it is.

AI UBERCHEAT today,i played map called duel of titans with haven. AI hero attacks my castle i knew i gonna lose it so,i just tryed make big losses to AI.then happened very big cheat.WHEN MY LEFT TOWER shooted AI succubi,it RETALIED against my crossbowman wich were behind that tower! and later same hero cheated again.i couldnt use my tactics abl in the battle against him,that hero didnt have tactics and hero was deleb.this isnt joke

I highly doubt about the retaliation part.Unless they had extra morale strike wich you didn't notice.But this game isn't that fair, Once I killed alot of druids and got only 3 liches (with expert necromancy).

Actually I find the combat script quite good. AI manages the battlefield positioning very well, reaching the stacks and blocking the way. Also, it can use some nonstandard opportunities like diesplling the blind with Stone Spikes.

However, what it does on the world map is just ridiculous. Army of heroes running all around, total lack of activity or senseless waste of movement points.

I also hate heroes fleeing on heroic difficulty even if they have some actual army which could at least do me some harm. But no, they waste it instanly and run before my huge forces instantly.
AI never surrenders, unlike in H3 or H4.

Also, rushing with 12 Green Dragons on week 5 on... Enigma map is at least annoying.

I don't want the computer to be extremely smart and challenging, but just playable. Right now it may take ages to wait for your next turn and big multiplayer maps are impossible to run. Also, chasing 10 enemy scouts just to see them flying back to the town is something beyond my patience.

possible,but they had turn before my towers turn,and it didnt get morale,or i missed that

Cheating AI

I can't make a new thred so I'm just using this one. Right. I am really tired of getting my ass handed to me when playing on hard, because the AI cheats like hell. On normal it's just boring, so me and my friend we play on hard. But it isn't really any fun, because it's never a fun and casual game. SO. Is there any way to edit a file so the ai dosn't cheat in such a absurd manner ? Is there a way to remove the way they get resources and units out of thin air? Would really be glad if someone could help me. Thx

last time I played, shooters were totally exposed and shooting the crap out of everyone, AI didn't try to block them or attack them in any way (it could kill them with 3 circles of winter, they were all 3 next to each other)
instead it kept casting basic deflect arrows (it didn't have mass deflect arrows)

You could try changing the A.I. player settings in the Map Object Properties. I know there are (5), Warrior, Builder, Explorer etc. . One is "Victum" How well the settings work I've no idea. Also, the basic higher A.I. setting you are choosing, might make those selections moot.
