Ok... most likely I've done something wrong... but would anyone tell me what?

I've bought a new network cable, hooked it up and still the same troubles, so the connection with the cable isn't the source of the problem...

Still... Why does TotE keep crashing within two or three turns?

Moderator's note: Warning: I can neither confirm nor reject the technical details in this post. This member have been multiple times warned and penalized for providing false info and help to other players. I would therefore, to avoid wasting money based on an ill advice, always doublecheck the info provided in this post before taking action.

Both of your machines are, way too slow, and out of date for HoMM5-T.o.t.E.

Here's a quote coming straight from a previous page's post of mine:

"So, what I am mainly saying, do not do what I went through, both of you are way better off investing in an overall PC system upgrade with the WinVista Home Premium already preinstalled. Reinstall your copies of HoMM5-Tribes of the East's Stand-Alone product v.3.0. I am totally sure that your Proxy codes will be in a way better shape for multiplayer gameplay as for all this ordeal is gone through."

The last phrase of that quote is applying to you both, directly.

Investing in a much newer PC is never a bad investment. You might become way more enlightened about how many features and apps are now included within the newest PC system. Just give yourself a break, and accept the present day world, OK.

Enjoy shopping today or tomorrow. After all, its just an entertainment center unit, right?

Have a nice day.

Well... let's see

AMD Athlon 5600+, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia 8600 GTS.. how is that not enough ?
And the other is - I must admit - a bit slower: Pentium IV 2,6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia 6600 GT.

I'd go shopping for a new graphics card, but I just bought the Complete Edition

You are kidding me That's more than enough, besides if you can play HoF you should play TotE just as well. Requirements are more or less the same.

How would you know that? As his post says, he has more than enough to run the games. And I think that if he can run Heroes 5 and the expansion, then he can run Tote, and sure enough he can. The multiplayer is the issue, not the specifications of the actual computer. He can run the games, and that is enough. The problem lies within the Network connections, and not the specs of the computer.

He doesn't need to do that because he can run both of the games quite fine. He will be wasting money on something that he doesn't even need because he can run both games quite fun. Like I said already, the problem remains within the Network and not the specs of the computer. Buying a new computer will be a waste of money and it will accomplish nothing at all, except money out of his wallet.

I am still certain that the problem is with the Ports.

Would someone just shut that guy up?

He's starting to get annoying.

As for topic if HoF and Homm V work fine wouldn't copying their port settings work just fine?

I don't have tote but if it doesn't use new ports it should work fine.

If the ports aren't the problem then problem might be in the game itself. Maybe it's bugged and the next patch might repair it. Who knows

First of all, thank you very much for your interest and help
Second, please refer to me as "she"

The game/network/whatever it is that's broken crashes within all games (HOMM V, HoF and Tote). Yes, I know I was happy for a moment that the second in the series started working, but in 15 minutes I say crashed, disconnected.

So I'm right back where I started.
I don't want to think I'll never be able to play lan multiplayer on HOMM... but until that happens, I started the campaigns

With all support that Ubisoft is supposed to offer, I still haven't received a solution to my question on their site. I hope they'll eventually stumble into my problem and at least give me a reply.

Until then... anybody got a clue?

I humbly apologize. I didn't know.
But here(Finland) we only have one word for she/he but no one uses it. We use it instead so be grateful that you aren't referred to as "it".

Stupid question but are you connected straight or through a router?

I wouldn't say that is stupid at all. I was trying to connect my xbox to my computer the other day through straight ethernet connection, but it didn't work. Instead, I got my router, and plugged the ethernet into one of the free ports, and then the router to go into my computer and it picked it up. Perhaps this might apply for LAN games as well? If it does, just try getting a router that has some ports in it, plug the ethernet  into one port from your computer, and then your friend to plug another ethernet into another port. It may work then, but not too sure.

No need for apologies for anyone, just so you know what kind of person you are talking to

Connection is straight, computer to computer connected through a network cable.

A LAN without a Router? LOL!

Oh Man! Your immense stupidity totally beffazles me!

First of all, I, myself, need a special exterior modem for Cable Internet. I use the LAN cable connection from the modem to the RJ-45 port at the back of my totally personal entertainment center unit(computer). So, yes, I have a 10Mb/s broadband internet connection.

A Router is only a slightly bigger modem that allows other computers to connect to it. So, the other machine can connect to the broadband internet connection as well.

Now, all you need is the IP address of the networked computer(your friend's) in order to allow the other machine to be able to join in your hosted game/map.

BTW : The recommended specs for HoMM5-Tribes of the East v.3.0/Stand-Alone product/game starts like this: O.S. supported = Vista/XP/2000(Only) and, for the rest, it's all stated in small print at the back of the plastic box of that very game.

Please note: the last poster before this one(mine) has my own very motto of life as his own signature.

I take that as an insult, the remark about me being stupid. Could you please delete that or I will have to see the moderators about this.

Here is a link for you

Let me quote some things on it, shall I?

Quote:
You have to connect both PCs using a cross cable.
After that its neccesary to set the IP addresses for both PCs. I router normally gives every PC an IP address but since we haven't got a router we should do without it.
You should go to network options and find the TCP/IP configuration, there you should set the ip address to something like 10.0.0.1 for the first pc and 10.0.0.2 for the second PC. Make sure the subnet mask is the same on both computers (255.0.0.0 or 255.255.255.0 is recommended). Other options there don't matter.
After that make sure the workgroup on both PCs is set to the same(WORKGROUP for example).
Now you should be able to see the shared directory's when you go to network neighbourhood.
Please keep us updated.

See the bolded part? The thread is asking how to connect two pc's via a LAN cable. All you basically need is a crossover cable and 2 PC's, and then to set all the ip and the subnets and the gateways and all that stuff and you should be all set.

Maybe another example:

Quote:
Never said my primary advice was to use a router. Just said that in response to Studio because if you use a hub, you might as well connect the two directly, there isn't much difference. Whereas with a (modern) router you get DHCP which saves the hassle of configuring IP's etc.

Crossed or not doesn't matter provided the TS has autosensing NICs. Since he's probably not going to know, our best bet was to insist on crossed to rule out a possible cause of failure. But this isn't relevant anyway as the TS already stated he has a crossed cable, so that's fine.

He is saying that you CAN connect the 2 computers directly via a LAN cable, however a router does help because configuring some of the settings can be a bit troublesome.

So before you start making some posts, at least get your facts right. Nearly everything you have said so far has been false and not so good advice. I think that before you post, you should get your facts straight and do your research.

Thanks.

Luc strikes again!

Many modern pc's can actually configure the LAN settings with straight line automatically.

And because the line is straight just shutting off all firewalls should be enough to allow all activity between the two, no port settings needed.

But all I can think of anymore is problem in the game and hope for patching. Maybe someone else has something.
