That is an insanely hard question!!!
Allmost everyone in here mentions more than 1 character, and you aksed for the favorite of all.. And there is just so many to choose between :S
My mind is fighting between Yoshimitsu and Super Mario
Yoshimitsu: Tekken story!!! Not the Soul Calibur story (Cuz SC is a stupid game with lame stories and kinda stupid combat combinations)
Anyway, was born in the first tekken in 1994 (Originally born in SC) where he was the first ultimate fighter with a weapon.. As we all know yoshimitsu only has one arm left, he lost the other one in an infiltration on Dr. Boskonovitch's lab to steal somekind of Eternal Energy Device :S (Not too good story either).. Though Yoshimitsu loses his arm during the infiltration, Boskonovitch helps the injured ninja escape and fits him with a mechanical prosthetic...
The story does not say anything about the Manji Party yoshimitsu is in, but it can be found in the Soul Calibur story, but in SC's story he loses his arm because he refused an offered alliance with some Lord Nobunaga thing..
His story is really not that interesting at all..
but here goes:
During the original Tekken, Yoshimitsu enters the original King of Iron Fist Tournament as a decoy. This was set up so that Yoshimitsu's clan, the Manji Clan, could steal the Tournament's prize, a large sum of money. During the tournament, Yoshimitsu also fights Ganryu, who Yoshimitsu dislikes, so Yoshimitsu steals his money and gives it to the poor. Kunimitsu, a member of the Manji Clan, is later expelled from the clan for trying to steal Yoshimitsu's sword. Kunimitsu joins Heihachi Mishima later on, so the Manji Clan invade the Mishima Zaibatsu, where Yoshimitsu's hand is cut off. His hand is replaced later on with the help of Dr. Boskonovitch, who stays with Yoshimitsu.
During Tekken 2, Dr. Boskonovitch is captured by the Mishima Zaibatsu, so Yoshimitsu enters the second King of Iron Fist Tournament to rescue him. Yoshimitsu later escapes with Dr.Boskonovitch.
During Tekken 3, Yoshimitsu enters the third King of Iron Fist tournament to get samples of Ogres blood. Dr. Boskonovitch and Yoshimitsu needed the samples to find a way to bring the doctors daughter back to life, who had died recently. Jin Kazama defeats Ogre in the tournament, so Yoshimitsu was able to get the sample he needed.
Yoshimitsu enters the fourth King of Iron Fist Tournament to strengthen his clan, which had been falling in members. Yoshimitsu hoped to take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu and combine it with his clan, the Manji Clan, which he fails in doing so.
During Tekken 5, Yoshimitsu enters the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament to get revenge on Bryan Fury. He wants revenge since Bryan had destroyed Dr. Boskonovitch's lab, after the Doctor didn't give Bryan the new body he wanted.
But the good part is that he kicks ass with his superior katana in all tekken games from 1 to 5 DR.. His arm gets a twist on the way, so he can fly..
And the newer the game is, the cooler he looks. And he is totally awesome in Tekken 6 plus he has another mini-katana in T6....
The only negative thing i can say about this hero is that he lost his special Move (Double Back, Square) which killed for 90 HP.. At least he kept the smaller special attack from Tekken 5 (Double Back, Square + Triangle) 50 HP... And ofcourse the xtreme stupid attack that deals 107 HP..
Tekken 1  Tekken 2  Tekken 3  Tekken 4  even though i do better like his second outfit.. Tekken 5  Tekken 6  ..
There is a special Costume to him in Tekken 5 
Mario: The whole story is her http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario.. But why i like it i don't really know, i quess it was because my first console and game ever was Super Nintendo with Super Mario World... Later on i got the Super Mario Allstars (Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3) That was before you could get a version of allstars including Super Mario World. But two years after me and my brother got a Nintendo 64 with Mario 64 ofcourse (Alot of fun).. I quess i like mario because i grew up with him, so i have always loved the mario games.. I have every mario game on my wii! And the ones i couldn't get on wii, is downloaded on my computer on the emulators.
There isn't much more to explain about mario! He is allmost legendary

Hitman-This bald headed snow is some hell,uva guy since his games totally rocks, all the ways to kill enemies is legendary.And has he ever backed of a mission(well i hade a hard time killing Joseph Clarence in Hitman Blood money, i felt so sorry for the Ol,noob)
i also love skipping the whole Silent assassin thing and kill people, hide,em and go on to the next poor guy, And nobody can stop me

HoMM: Agrael is hot (literally) as a demon. And who doesn't love Queen Isafail?
Warcraft: Sylvanas. Similar to Kerrigan. I also like Thrall very much. And Jaina who I love. But Sylvanas is awesome.
A scene in Gilneas goes like this.
Orc Overlord: Sylvanas, you are failing this invasion!
Sylvanas: The Forsaken do not fail. We shall succeed.
Orc Overlord: Ok, but just don't use your plague weapons!
Sylvanas: Of course not, Orc.
*Orc Overlord leaves*
Forsaken Apothecary: Should we really not use the plague against the gilneans?
Sylvanas: Are you dumb? Of course we use the plague weapons on them! If the Gilneans want a fight, they shall get a fight. And a good one too. Exterminate them with the plague. We have a new army to raise.
Starcraft: Kerrigan. That SC2 is featuring a cinematic which shows the scene from SC1 when she as a Ghost is swarmed by the Zerg makes her even more awesome. I also love Ghosts and got a bit of a gamer crush on Nova (I like strong female characters why I made the female character in my book wear a dress and be a healer is beyond me). I also like Zeratul. Starcraft is just a very well thought out universe where I like a lot of the characters.
Age of Mythology: I always liked Amandra, the Nubian mercenary queen.
