But what are spiders then? I always thought that both spiders and scorpions ARE insects, just not the ant-like ones. To stay on-topic, I'd like to have cities combined from HoMM 4 aty levle, but also good to see buildings tree.

Fog of War and weather!

There are a few things I'd like to see in H6.

One of them is the return of a Fog of War, IE if no hero or dwelling is within a particular area of the adventure map, that area gets a darker hue and you won't be able to spot what enemies might be up to there. Adding to this we could have Adventure Spells that allow heroes to hide their trails if an enemy hero is close by and out to get them. And the Necropolis could get back its Veil of Darkness (or whatever it was called, from H3).

Another thing I'd like to see is weather effects. Strong winds, rain, snow, sandstorms etc would cause heroes to walk slower on the adventure map, and decrease damage for shooters during battles. At sea the direction of the wind would give heroes different amount of movement points depending on in what direction they try to sail. And of course spells like Cursed Wind (against enemies at sea) and Favourable Winds (for the ship the casting hero is on).

Good post Crepus. Excellent suggestions all of them. I like the idea of a dust trail that would hang in the air so that an army that vanishes into the fog could be followed if done so quickly enough. I have done this very thing in H5 and it was good.

If Fog Of War returns, we need to have a Cultural Boundary like the ones made in Civiliaztion 3 and 4. To those of you not familiar with this concept, it means that all land within a certain radius of your cities - the larger the city, the larger the radius, basically - is under your cultural control. Land under your cultural control is never shrouded by Fog Of War, and hence, the enemy is not able to sneak into your territory and claim your mines and then dissapear in the FOW (as they could in Heroes 4, one of the many dreadful features of that game).

You don't need actual 'cultural boundaries' just expanding sight radii as you build up your town (say, 5+5*hall level, 10 sight for villages, 25 for capitals).

How about a new town called Pyramid? At the very top of this gold pyramid, there's a huge diamond. Some of the creatures accumulated in Pyramid would be from movie The Mummy Returns, like the half man half scorpion Scorpion King, Army of Anubis, vicious scarab and pygmy mummy. I would add Sphinx, which when upgraded, has laser coming from its eyes. Giant Sand Spider sounds good too, doesn't it? Also a jackal-headed spearman called Anubis, similar to soldier of Anubis from the above movie. And a falcon-headed archer called Horus, armed with bow and arrows, of course. I would also add neutral creatures from HOMM3, Gold Golem and Diamond Golem, to Pyramid, because of pyramid's gold and diamond. Mummies cast the Curse spell, upgraded Mummies have claws, and Diamond Golems cast the Blindness spell.    

So creatures of Pyramid could be Giant Scarab, Horus, Pygmy Mummy, Anubis, Mummy, Gold Golem, Diamond Golem, Giant Sand Spider, Scorpion King and Sphinx. That's 10 creatures instead of seven. Oh well, I suck at math, but at least my imagination is working.

Problem is, we need at least 14 (preferably 21) creatures in 7 tiers. Fortunately I have one pre-prepared (from ages ago):
T1: Kheper - Scarab/Scorpion
T2: Bastite - Sekmetite/Maahesite
T3: Mummy - Pharaoh/Asclepius
T4: Buto - Wadjet/Nehebkau
T5: Soul Eater - Ammut/Taweret
T6: Sphinx - Criosphinx/Hierocosphinx
T7: Firebird - Phoenix/Angha

I wouldn't exactly say fascinated, although I must admit I've always been interested in mythology in general. Also, this didn't take a particularly large amount of effort, just an hour or two of surfing wikipedia.

Player1: Haha Ive killed all your Sekmetite's and yours Hierocosphinxes,not counting a whole stack of Maahesite!
Player2: Aww what a shame... Ive killed only yours Pikemens and Archers.

The great thing of HoMM series is the fact that we dont have to shuffle the dictionaries or check wikipedia to find out who is who.

I agree with Arcax... I had to google one or other of the names in order to know what kind of creature that name means... using simple but resumed names that give the whole idea of the creature is no shame.

Anubis himself would be a bad choice, Perhaps something more along the lines of Anubite-Anubisite/Wepwawite, with the upgrades having a chance to kill the top unit in a stack/being ranged and having no melee penalty. I'm not entirely sure how Horusites would fit in, although one upgrade would be a flyer.

Oh, and Arcax and Maken want to poke fun at my names I'd suggest they come up with some of their own first, and the abilities to justify such, since I've got those as well.

I agree, I once created an Egyptian town in a competition (which I won) called the Pyramid. I made a concept for the town which was really awesome. Basically it was a huge pyramid with towns built on it.
Pyramid is my besr faction and I might use it as a second town in the ICTC (the first one beign a secret im developing).

This was the Pyramid line-up, got 10/10 for it ;D

Creature Line-Up
1. Slave-Battle Slinger-Siege Slinger
2. Anubite-Deathguard-Spiritguard
3. Sphinx-Hierocosphinx-Mystical Sphinx
4. Leoniess-Sun Priestess-Moon Priestess
5. Avenger-Elite Avenger-Sky Keeper
6. Damned Dead-Bilgy Mummy-Mummy Pharaoh
7. Bennu-Bennu Heron-Phoenix


Some stuff could be changed however but that town was amazing. Create combos and interesting abilities.
The Avenger could spin around, dealing damage to everybody. For each enemy it killed, its damage increased.
The Moon Priestess could teleport it too etc

You've got a long way to go before you can convince me that the Sphinx belongs that low and the Mummy that high.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to release the Unique Skill as well would you, because while I consider myself good at creating line-ups, I have to admit that I'm ham-fisted when it comes to Unique Skills.
