My letter to Nival
Hi, i am going to try to change the life of H5 modding forever. we are all tired and bored of editing the texture, fooling around with alpha, and effects.(except radar, this dude got tonnes of inspiration and ideas) so i think it's time we try to get a Geometry editor from Nival. How? well i speak russian pretty well, and i could write a letter to them asking for a geometry editor. we could try in english, but you know, if someone asks you something in your native language, there is a bigger chance they will help you. so, first of all, tell me what you think about that idea, and after some time, you can help me compose the letter(i am asking for it as a community, not just myself). but first of all, tell me what you think.

WHile I think idea is good, the chances that it will bring anything from the developer is equall to 0.
Unless Ubi approves it, no additional editors can be released. It could be done by some of the developers in their free time, but they are not allowed to "waste" their working hours on such things...
Its a sad truth for gamers ..
On the other hand, there is nothing to lose! So, give it a go.

come on guys! be positive! think optimistic! the chance isn't actually that small. they probably have something like an editor for it, they just need to make it downloadable.

There already are two editors: they are called 3DS MAX and Maya, in descending order of goodness. All we need is something to convert back and forth. (we have the forth, now we need the back)

DS, what is the difference between the two, exactly? (They're made by the same people...)
There is a free version of Maya (Personal Learning Edition) for trying it out but making models would require the full version. Also I believe there is something called GMax which is like a free 3DS Max or something.
As I've said before, there was the slightest hint that Ubival was investigating the idea of producing a converter, so I say, give the letter a go!

Its all in how they are organized, and their purpose. MAYA is somewhat scientific, whereas 3DS MAX is closer to artistic.

yea, but you gotta pay for 3DS max. anyway, here is my letter i have composed. tell me what to change, so there is a bigger possibility of them doing it.
Dear developers of HoMM5,
I am Wulfstan8182, a member of the Heroes Community forum, would like to ask you a favour. Most of us have finished the campaigns a while ago and are interested in the game's modding. Our modding community is really big and we are already getting tired of just recoulouring the texture and fooling around with the effects. Right now, the only thing left is the geometries which are currently not editable. So, i would like to ask you, from the name of our community, to maybe give us the editor you used for creation and editing the object's(creature, hero, building, etc.) geometry. Please make it downloadable or send it to me by e-mail. Thanks.

Add in a part about "Or at least a program that can convert back and forth from your geometry files into a more common format (.3DS, .WRL, etc)

It is possible that the geometries store information about the skeleton too (well the bindings need to be stored somewhere...); I think it is more likely that the conversion will be back to Maya if we want it to be useful, but I could easily be wrong.
@Wulfstan - I'll comment on the letter tomorrow.
Oh, and I think we really would want to be able to bring all of geometries, skeletons and animations into an editable format, and be able to reinsert them into the game - yes?

We obviously want to put it back in the game. but that's easy to do using the new creature framework anyway.

I would, but there is no name for what to convert it to, belive me, I've looked. Its like trying to explain the different denominations of Christianity to a catterpillar with a powerpoint.
Which is an odd image and you should forget it right away.

Where in the name of Ziost did you come up with that? Now, as per the letter, I am in full agreement and support. I know how to mod, just lack the proper programs due to an unstable Internet connection.

oh the kid was converting them from... anyway, on Nival russian forums ppl found out how to mod the geometries, but they still lack the knowledge of putting them in game...

Well, we know how to modify geometries too -.-' We're at the same point as them, except that they are better artists than most of us here
