Bots and authentication tools
Have you lalty noticed of more bots apearing and start to rip the very fabric of the forums?
This is worse then spamm, since they spamm very poorly.
and panalizing wont help..
they need a ban.
to keep this we need a authencaition tools..
veryfing email,a security code,and etc.
in one particular forum,so afread of the bots, the admin varys the email herself, and decides judging by how its a true email,to authicate or not.
Edited by pandora: corrected spelling on authentication, sorry was driving me crazy

Banning won't help since they all use different ip addresses and are under different e-mails.
I think the best bet is that people just stop replying to those threads, and letting them get deleted after a while.

I've noticed the same thing and I think one of those code verify things might help. If it's a human posting they will have no problem entering the code but if it's a bot they won't be able to post.

Lat few bots actually posted images, not just links, so i think its about time to make some protective measures. There are minors here as well.

My jaw just about dropped open when I saw that one thread in the Tavern. I logged on today to see reports about other similar threads showing up.
I'm sure Val will do whatever he can to resolve this problem so it shouldn't be a worry for too much longer.

Yes, that one in the tavern was absolutely disgusting.
Thank god that I wasn't eating when I saw that, and thank god it got deleted.
We really need to stop these spam bots.

Seriously, can't we just get rid of them instead of keeping them in the forum? It is just bogging down the forum, and some of them just look out of place...maybe all of them look out of place.
If you want to keep ip addresses on them, then make a log of it, and just delete the thread. Get a link to the profile, put a date and time of when the thread was made, and then delete it, just for reference.
You could take a screen shot of it for another reference. (probably without the pics and all that).

Well, I am not possitive but from some intereactions with me letting a few mods know about ... innapropriate posts, the mod of the forum or Val has to do it. A mod from say the Glade can not cross over and delete something from say ToH. I could be wrong, however, and a mod can clear that up. Now they can apply the penalty I believe.

You are correct. A mod from Ashan can't delete something from Tavern if they do not mod there also. But all moderators can handle out penalties in ALL forums.
But it is just better that the moderator of the forum where the spam topic goes is just deleted straight away. It does NOT need to stay there.

Oh I agree. We do have underage people here, and something just do not belong regardless. In fact, there should be some consensus that if ANY mod sees something like that regardless of forum they should be able to delete it.

Yeah that is exactly what I think as well. I saw some threads in the Library that used to be bad, like advertisement or pornography, but they are not deleted, only locked. I do not see the point of bogging down the forum with worthless topics like that, that do not even have anything to do with HOMM3.
Maybe there should be something where it makes the person registering have to check through their e-mail for an activation link, or perhaps one of those confirmation codes.

That's all well and nice but if a mod of that particular forum is not on then there's very little we can do about it. Elvin, Lich, and myself were all on the other night when that thread popped up. None of us are tavern mods so unfortunately we have to wait for Shadow or Pan to log in. Yes we can apply a penalty and a silence but I doubt an ad bot really cares.

I can't believe what they have added there...Considering that the info is now either obsolete or organized with other sections better to cleanse it as a whole. So many links

I asked Val to allow me to do it a while ago (I lost access to it when sfidanza left) but Val is having a busy few weeks so he has not had time to get back to me yet.
Edit: nice to see someone still looks at that page!
