H3 in HV

I've been looking for a version of Heroes that returns to H3 for a long time now, and I guess I'm just going to have to make it happen.  I've not done any modding with H5, but I intend on getting good at it, so I'm going to have to ask for much help.  My first few questions:

Is there a downloadable version of the Modding Wiki? and if not, what are the most crucial pages for retexturing; rearranging creatures/abilites/statistics.

and... *grovel grovel*  anyone wanna help?

The idea with bringing back H3 to H5 is nice. I could help you with a couple of things. But right now I'm busy with my mod. Just mail me and I could start do some small things like stats. If you make some textures, which don't require any modding skills I could implent them into the game. I think it would be nice to bring back all stats from HOOM5. There's just one thing: Quicksilver mod basicly brings HOMM3 to HOMM5 but not every possible way

thoughta something tho..  I saw in a previous thread that adding a whole new race is possible (swamp & conflux).. but what about heroes for those towns?

I don't have any clue about how to add any faction. But I know how to replace factions. I've heard that when Kronos1000 is ready with his mod he will start with another mod. It will add might and magic heroes to each faction. We could wait for his mod to make the heroes then I could edit them if he agrees to it......

Anyway, I think you should start with calculating stats. I mean it's a good start until we know anything about adding factions.

BigJocker had a good bit of stats put together already in his QSII Mod (this is kind of a break off of that.. kind of).  If he doesn't mind us using his, I think we'd be pretty well set there.

I think there's three options. Either you just copy stats from HOMM3. Well it's the easiest way. Or you come up with new stats(Looking in Heroes5 stats and compare as I said calculating). Which is pain, but I had to do it with my mod. But if you like you could ask to use the Quicksilver mod stats, but I'm not sure what will happen if you, for example use Horned Demon stats for Magog if you know what I mean. It's your mod idea so you dicide. But in my opinion, since it's Heroes 3 to 5, you should copy stats from Heroes 3(Mix things up a little) And also it's easiest. But it could be quite weird to copy stats from Heroes 3 because the engine of Heroes 3 and 5 is different. Personally I think it's pain to make my own stats. You're the boss so do what you think is best!!!

I just want to clarify one thing. Do you want this mod to make Heroes 5 exactly like Heroes 3 or something else???

you will have to change the stats, because of the initiative system.

you won't make an archangel with 18 in initiative and speed.

Last night I finally got a chance to play around with textures (stats yet to come).  I've got the whole transparency thing down as you can see.


*We're FINALLY freeeeeeeee!!*


But I'm  having a heck of a time with my evil eye/beholder.



I tried "shredding" the the viewable parts of the body/arms/legs to make tentacles, but have given up on that.  I've decided to use a cloud of some sort. (unless someone can explain how to make tentacles)  I'm having trouble finding the arena files in the data file as described in the wiki.  I'm using the imp for my model.  Is there arena files for the not alternate upgrade creatures? if so .. where are they?

any comments, criticism, suggestions, and/or help is always welcome!

Nice work. I think you should make the specter brown and black like in HOMM3. This is a good start. However you should import a texture of a eye instead of trying to make one of your own, it makes things a lot easier.

Ulfara - import a texture of the eye? thru photoshop?  I hardly think it would fit over the model. I could stretch it, but i think it would lose quality.  Guess I don't understand

So do the pre-TOE creatures have arena files? I've extracted the archive and searched to no avail.  Can anyone explain how to add effects to a creature w/o the "arena" file. What files do i need to edit and where do they exist?

The arena files for pre-expansion creatures are all over the place.  I'd suggest you start by following file paths in each unit's model.xdb file, most of which can be found through data.pak\_(Model)\Creatures.

Could you create tentacles by attaching another creature to the eye, then hiding everything except the tentacle part? Maybe Flame Lord's beard, scaled up a bit???

Gnoll_Mage - In all of the modding theory that I've read, I thought it was impossible to cut and paste/resize parts of one creature to the other. Are you speaking of splicing models, or simply copying and pasting the textures? I really really like your idea of the beard as tentacles. Almost creepy tho..

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. When I said import a eye I meant copy and paste. I'll show you a pic soon just to make you see that it would look good. Then if you think my texture looks good then you could try it.

H5 got good ideas. For example the magic schools. It would be nice to have such system in H3.

Sweet!  I'm still new to all this modding stuff.. someday I'll know what everyone's talking about!

Here's some of my ideas.  I'm open to suggestions:

pit lord (h3) - recolor shadow witch (has whip like h3 pit lord!) or succubus
behemoth - HV pit lord - retextured w/ fur color
Pegasus (already done in GOTP)
Naga (Fire element retexture?)
Troglodyte (fairly easy)
Beholder (working on it.. needs tentacles.. if not clouds/electric)
Medusa (Fire element retexture?)
Efreet (already done - red djinn)
Wight (I just need to recolor brown)
Basilisk (exists - lizard rider w/o rider))
Wolf Rider (HV Wolf w/o rider, or can we make a goblin ride?)
Roc (brown pheonix (i think this has been done as well)
Upgraded elementals (i think this has been done too)
Magic elemental (Ghostmode "Ghost" recolored?)
