hmm isn't Urghat bugged?
I know my opponent cleared everything on HOD in like 13 days and had 7 levels on me when we fought.

its just because of her special... +1% for 3 hero levels and -2% to penalty for every 2 levels or 1 level or something like that
she starts with logs and pathfinding.. by level 5 she can potentially have expert logs with warpath and snatch! that is why your opponent could do so many things in such a short time

usually play academy.... mostly use nur,havez, sometimes jhora
nurs good for infinite magics obviously
havez good for war machine even without ballista if you have upgraded gemlins
jhora ehh like i said sometimes lol

Lethos + Invis. Stalkers + Invis. Shadow Mistress + Mass Decay ability + Mass Decay Spell + Corrupted Soil for each cheapass damage... Thats my kinda start ... Stall and Destroy 
Total PWNAGE of almost all mines and resources very quick...
So I always go with Lethos

Yes,Lethos is a very good starting here,the Poison Master is a good ability for weaking enemy forces from the start of the battle

yeah I like lethos I usually go with him or Sinitar as my starting hero.

Besides that:
- I havent played duengeon, academy and stronghold that much yet, but i have played other factions a while (hard, heroic and with friends);
- I havent found a really good fortress hero to creep;
- Better starter hero depends on map and enemy, at least for me;
- Better starter hero always depend on the second hero i take (i think its easier to find out who is the best support hero)
These are my choices:
Haeven: Vittorio. But any other can be good if dougal is my second hero so i can bring archers to the first and raise my creeping power.
Inferno: Deleb, of course, and having grawl as second one
Necromancer: Kaspar
Sylvian: Ossir. More thant that, id give ossir's army to Vinrael or Dirael if i got them as second heroes.
Fortress: Karli seems the best to start, but for me its not enough. I'd go with Helmar.

With my experience in Fortress, I would say Helmar, and also Brand if you build early the Rune´s building to the maximum.
About other factions... I think I would pick Dougal. Lot of Archers in the first week = all mines conquered.

Ingvar is rather inpressive at creeping. Upgrade to shieldguards and watch some heads roll...
With rune of charge, even problem creeps like ranged units are overcome with very few losses...
Mmm...lemme think??? do I sacrifice like a loss of 3-5 shieldguilds to grab a crystal mine in week 2???, week 1 if the mine guards are really easy.

the best creeping hero is grok, after gating got buffed recently (someone still think it was a neff?). Someone managed to beat five AI opponents in 11 days on rise to power on heroic difficulty with this hero.link

Actually the AI in 3.1 acts differently towards gated/summoned units, which may be considered a nerf to stalkers and inferno creeping.
Stalker creeping is still efficient but since units move towards the other end of battlefield when you activate it instead of standing there like fools, they can blow your cover. But hey, they don't know where you are. You can move the stalkers somewhere and they won't have a clue where to move next, unless they randomly move next to them, but that's just bad luck.
What is really annoying is that it made firewall creeping useless, because firewall still can't be empowered and creatures don't want to stand in place, leaving you with a spell infinitely inferior to fireball :/

True, but it was kind of ridiculous of the AI to just stand there in the firewall get burned for 3 rounds.
The AI should always have been programmed to move out of the firewall unless it had good reason to stay in it (killing your units).

Lethos pwns, he looks nice too
Im playing Heroes 3 campaign now (so cepheus will be happy) but then I will try Deleb and Inferno (never play them... boring faction) when I have completed all three H3 campaigns (!!!).

just try playing him... it's insanely fast level up in first days and insane creeping... i like him very much...
last night i started a hot seat with sinitar and deleb, and after 2 weeks sinitar was like lvl 14 and deleb lvl 9... on jebus template with IRDM's generator...

Huh? What about Havez, Sinitar, Vayshan, Grok, Telsek, Kaspar, Ingvar, Karli?
Inga? You MUST be Joking. Even Vinrael (a rather bad Starting Hero) is much better

I start playing in a Multiplayer-Hot Seat-Standard Game with Sinitar agains 2 Sylvans with starting heroes Findan and Alaron (I have the Unlock All Hero MOD) and was lvls easaly identical to yours
And to finnish : Sinitar is a Good Hero
