Of course he could have done a better job, but it's not like he's a total stranger to her and considering her reaction it doesn't seem like she was TOTALLY unprepared for it. Carcity, how well do you know this girl? You said you talk quite often. If you're friends, then what you did is okay. But if you're just occasional acquaintances, it's creepy.

it's somewhat crazy that we live in a world where people may get frightened when you tell them "I love you"
btw, it's quite scary to listen to some people. they may eventually convince you to avoid relationships because the risk is so huge. At 1st you love the other one, and a few months / years later, you totally hate him / her. there's something I don't get, how can love becomes hate?
maybe because we make such a huge deal of love?

I know her quite well, she has shared things with me that I don't think she has shared with many people, I care about her I really do.

Now joking aside, you should have really started slower, like just saying "I really like you, you know?" or something to that effect. Would have been much easier both for you and her, if you are nervous (understandable at that age).

well the thing is, I wasn't nervous, not until I stood there, in that room, alone with her, then I became nervous. I mean, I have made a fool of myself on stage infront of 400 people, and I was nervous then, but that was nothing compared to this time, I stood there for 5 minutes without being able to say it, every second both she and me became more nervous, when I said it she became really nervous, and when she had been silent for a few minutes I left, didn't want to push her by forcing her to say anything.

Yeah, Carcity. To be brutally honest, what did you expect? You stood in a room with her for 5 minutes without saying anything. Just think about it. What if she did that to you? You'd certainly be at least a little freaked out.
Here's how you're supposed to do it - if you want to make the first move, which is generally expected, ask her if she wants to go somewhere with you. Then make sure she has fun, while slowly escalating.
Don't stand with alone with her in a room for five minutes.

Where did you get that, Dating for Dummies? Once again Mvass that's Hollywood. Not that it doesn't work but there're plenty of women who that won't appeal to. But that' not really the point here.
Carcity now while I understand that time becomes an excruciatingly slow thing while in such a situation are you being serious about those 5 minutes? And how long did you wait for an answer a moment (as in you saw that she was nervous and then left her to decide) or minutes (you stood there looking at her).
Nevertheless being nervous doesn't have anything to do with you being shy, everyone would have been.

That's not Hollywood, that's the way it's supposed to be done. And if it doesn't work, then you don't want that girl anyway.
Besides, how else are you even supposed to do it? If you just come out and say it from the beginning, it's both ridiculous (because how can you love her, you haven't even been in a relationship with her yet - so it's just lust) and creepy (because the underlying message that you're sending is "I'm lusting after you", which may understandably be disturbing).

The romantic idea is supposed to be something of "Oh, really? I love you too! I loved you from the first day I met you!" and then there comes a few platonic hugs or something. I prefer mvass' take on it. Though, I don't have good advice on the subject matter in general

Don't worry, City. I'd rather be a nervous 14yo than a bitter, experienced 22yo. Actually, I'd give anything to be younger again  You're doing well, friend. Just remember, don't tell people you love them... at least not so early. Reserve it for some good moment.
It's a bad way of starting something because as the guys told you here, it's a bit creepy, stalker-ish. THe girl sure is patient though. 5 mins of dead silence and she said nothing? I'd say balls of steel, but wait, she's a girl
