Part of what I said was "we are never just our intellect and that animal part of us remains within" so I don't see how all that logic and reasoning is relevant. Don't forget that at the peak of modernism which is fundamentally rationalist, we had two world wars of sheer chaos and destruction. Not saying it's that what's waiting for you

So this is my theory.  There's a mutual friend of both Mvass and his gf who can't get laid.  He's in his early twenties which means that this is actually somewhat of a crisis that is causing severe emotional stress. Mvass's girlfriend, seeing her friend in such a state, makes a comment to the effect of "I wish I could help him out."

I think I had never heard before of people having sex out of pity.

I think Mvass will do fine. As I said, the man has balls of steel. And if he says he doesn't get MEH at the thought of kissing her after she made oral sex with someone, I'll say his balls are titanium.

I would piss myself with anger that I have to share. My balls ain't even brass

If Mvass doesn't put much of the bond-value to sex, it matters not to him. It's like me not caring if my GF kisses her friends on cheek when she meets them.

Different principles, that's all.

Myself, I just don't like to share. Not-one-bit of the intimacy that should be mine and my gf's alone. All the bread comparisons are meh to me, since the "bread" I'm having is totally unique and it's the exclusiveness of it that makes it taste special.

It's not that I don't put much bond-value to sex. Quite the opposite, actually, sex is an act of great intimacy. But I don't mind if she has that intimacy with others, because it's not a substitute for intimacy with me.
As for pregnancy, if it should somehow happen, she'd get an abortion.

That's a defeatist and incorrect way of looking at it. If something is true, and I have sufficient reason to believe that it's true, then I will believe it. Emotional reactions are within the framework set by reason, not the other way around. If something shouldn't bother me, it won't.

So you think the subconscious is a lie and practically you can convince yourself to feel or not to feel anything?

The subconscious isn't a lie, but it's not very important. It can give you strange dreams, but it can't do much more unless you're mentally unhealthy. And no, I can't convince myself to feel anything, only what is in accordance with my beliefs. But yes, if I believe something and my emotions aren't in line with that belief, then I can and will change my emotions (after I have made sure that my belief is indeed correct). For example, I used to be repulsed by the sight of male homosexuality, even though I didn't believe it was morally wrong. Then I examined my reaction, judged it incorrect, and stopped having it.

Not really, I think what he means is that you can impose "order" unto the subconscious, of which I have first hand experience. I experimented with latching certain "pain" signals unto the joy feeling, mixed results but I'm certain that it's possible to alter base processes.

What Mvass says makes sense from my point of view.

Of course the problem with touching something that works is that you can either make it better, or make it significantly worse, though what constitutes as bad/good is often a matter of perspective.

Actually, that's a little, well wrong. () Subconscious can have serious effects, your primary defense mechanism, like you're 'fear' mode, so when you're scared you're all perception and thoughts change with it. It's grossly simplified, but the subconscious is far more than just dreams or hallucinations.

Ok. I contemplated about this. Point well made, however I think there are two gaps.

1- To be a "defeatist" in that sense (actually that definition is not in this reply of yours but the previous) you first have to feel yourself in some kind ideological challenge. I don't place romantic relationships in that zone. Maybe I should, it's hardcore.

2- To train yourself not to be repulsed about images of things is easy. I used to be repulsed seeing people eating shrimp as a kid, now I eat it myself. That's not it. We are talking about emotional bonds, that's entirely something else.

I too think that emotion and reason don't oppose each other necessarily, in fact they can and in deeper perspective they always do emerge from each other (is music math or sensitivity?), however I can't help myself noticing you oversimplify things.

My trust is well-founded, because my girlfriend isn't going to sleep with random people, or even people she knows but doesn't know well. She would only do that with close friends - people she trusts. (Also, even on the off-chance that the father wants her to keep it, he can't force her to, so she'd get an abortion anyway.)

What's the difference between being emotionally repulsed by images and this? Both are emotional reactions that are not in line with what I thought. So I fixed my reactions.

Ummm, because you say you love her?

(You may think casual sex with friends is no big deal but it still involves someone you care and feel passionate about. Anyway I think I made my point why it's not quite the same as training yourself not to be repulsed by homosexuality. The longer this talk gets I feel like I'm butting in your private life and I don't like it, so I'm done.)

So, is your girlfriend hot? Will she be visiting the east coast anytime? Pics?

I'd be careful about choosing to adopt such a non-territorial attitude towards your mate. Let me give her a roll and you'll find she won't be coming back. She can make all the promises she wants about not doing anything that would make her lose interest in you. All of those promises are made prior to emersing herself in the turbulent throes of an experience that will redefine her world into living pleasure. I sever such promises as a scythe severs wheat. Next to the Sex God, you will forever be outmatched.
