I just recently started trying to play online and I am finding it really hard to find matches. I go to the UBI servers and very rarely find anyone even talking, much less willing to start a game with me.

I tried setting a game up called "all welcome 1v1" and left it there for about an hour. No one joined. When I last joined a game they kicked me.

I've also been using Hamachi. The largest channel I've found has 15 members and I've only ever seen one of them online, who ignored me.

In a couple of weeks of trying I've successfully launched a total of two games (one was good, the other DCed when losing).

Am I doing something wrong, or is the scene just well and truly dead? The only game I've ever seen worse for finding a match online is Civilisation V. Even with a game I play that was released in 1997 I can jump into a match instantly any time I want.

It is pretty dead right now. Things should pick up with H6.

So the last few multi-player games I've tried with my friends the old de-synching problems have flared up, which sucks because the first one I had gotten my Gorshak to level 19 by day 6, week 2 (I only play random maps).  As an aside, I too am tired of slow AI and will see what disabling Instant Travel does to help it.

I'm running what was as of a two months ago the most recent version of Hamachi.  Do I really need to downgrade to the older 1.0.0.whatever version?

Also, I'm reading about map maintenance.  When I start up a random map, should that be the only map in my folder?  Do I need really need to extract all my other maps to another folder and name that something not maps related?  What about my saves?  Do I need to displace all my saves into another folder except for the saves related to my current map?

Aside from those steps, what else is out there I should be doing or not doing pertaining to swift AI turns, non-crashing, non-desynching multi-player for Heroes V ToTE 3.1?

Definitely use version 1.0.1.5 for Hamachi.

For the most cautious (that includes me):
- only have the map you are playing in maps folder (no other maps just in case they have some mod in there - because maps do also act as mods)
- only have savegames for the game you are playing (I recall others like fiur mentioning savegames affecting them before)
- both players must use exactly the same mods & map versions
- Wolfsburg mentioned on p6 that one might even delete any versions of the map anywhere else on the hard-drive.

Random maps with computer players in original TotE 3.1 have computer players that are extremely damn slow...more slower than non-random maps.

That's one reason to use Quantomas enhanced AI mod but can't use it for multiplayer except hotseat & can't use some other mods.

I don't know how much difference disabling instant travel does to the speed of computer player in random game, it may speed up little bit...

Personally if playing a game & it has computer player(s) in the game, then use one of the maps that came with game or a custom map (not random)...for some strange reason computer player is quicker in non-random map like warlords (even if I didn't disable instant travel).

I don't know if it might make a difference if you make a random map, do a small change like disable instant travel & other stuff etc & then saving that random map so it becomes a user-made custom map.

& sometimes disconnections can happen due to hamachi server rebooting/re-organising itself or the fact the internet routing link between the players may become bad temporarily (this can't be helped unfortunately)...it's possible gameranger may or may not have better connectivity than hamachi in some rarer cases but I've never had to not use hamachi or ubi.

For the dunderheads I just texted, you can find the old version of Hamachi here.  If you manage to get lost on your way, the official name Hamachi 1.0.1.5.

Oh, and you're all a bunch of sissies.  I need to go back to RTS just so you can have a chance.

Signed,

Unfortunately LogMeIn has discontinued their service for older versions of Hamachi as of 30/7.  To use hamachi, one has to use latest version & to Necro-Mutant's & my dismay, it seems we can't even see each other's games in that version.

Luckily a forum post somewhere mentioned tunngle.  This works.  Just requires a bit more mucking around to get set up at first [create/join a private network!]
[also none of that auto-start mucking around in gameranger]

LogMeIn Hamachi (without any tweaking) works for me and others who play with me...

Good for you!

LogMeIn Hamachi did not work for Necro-Mutant & myself after July last year when everyone was forced to use latest version (couldn't even get a connection to each other)[free version ofc].  Maybe the situation has changed in last month or 2, or maybe someone found a fix, I dunno (no time recently).

I do not think the link posted above for Hamachi v 1.0.1.5 is valid anymore.  Just a heads up not sure where to get it now.

er, yeah you can read my post (3 posts above yours)  why the heck would anyone "want" to get 1.0.1.5 now when it doesn't work?

Anyone tell me if "Use Hamachi 1.0.1.5 (stable version)" (Copied from the followup comment on first page, advising of the best Hamachi vs to use)... with Win 10 Home Premium, 32 bit OS?

I would advise Tunngle.
more convenient than game ranger and more reliable than hamachi.
