Pretty silly reason not try other things. I'll predict what will happen if you try something else: Nothing bad. Why do I say that? Because Firefox is BETTER than IE, plus it looks better IMO, but looks mean nothing if it is a cost to the computer performance. I have a friend who says that Vista looks awesome, and I know many others like that as well. Good graphics are good but not if it drags the performance dramatically. My point is, Mozilla Firefox might not have the best name or may not look good (in your opinion), but that doesn't matter. You should be concentrating on the PERFORMANCE, which is MUCH better than Internet Explorer. Throughout this forum, many people suggest that others go to Firefox if they haven't already, and for good reasons: It's better.

I got IE on my Vista partition because i cannot remove it.
I got Firefox as my second browser(with flashblock and skin modification).
I got Opera as my main browser(with Flashblock, skinn: Mirage Alpah, and using the default pre 9.5 look ). I have yet to import fanboys adblock list again, but hei i already got flashblock
IE don't look good, IE 6 looked good. And for a note: IE does NOT follow the web standards yet, so i would reccomend leaving it for that and several other reasons(its snowload of security holes it just 1 of them).

Besides, Opera and Firefox looks better when in the non-default skins

Someone from CH who is expert in computers said that Firefox is actually the one who uses the most memory. So I don't know if IE is really 'slower', but I still like Firefox because of its increased security and add-ons.

well duh, Firefox is the most memory consuming browser
Opera uses half the resources Mozilla does and although I have Opera I don't use it because 'horse power' of my PC is not a matter of concern. I sometimes start up Firefox while playing games which tend to overfps so that they become stable

Hmr, so suppose you want a simple and effective, not-so-much-memory-consuming browser, which would you folks recommend?

Yeaaahhh I just, somehow, totally removed the address bar, you know, the bar where you fill in an url, hit enter, and it goes to the page you requested? And I have no idea how to bring that bar back... I'm considering reinstalling Opera for it..

I never used Opera, but in Firefox it is View->Toolbars->Navigation Toolbar, try to find something similar.

Opera was my first browser after IE and I loved it, but since it's not as popular as others I encountered some compatibility problems with a couple of sites so I switched to Firefox. That was quite some time ago but I think you still might encounter some rare problems while surfing. Stress out rare one more time.
I'm too used to Firefox now to switch back to Opera
Though if I had a slower PC I would stick with Op since it's more efficient.

It might use more memory but that doesn't mean it's gonna be slower. Even if it does use more memory, it is still much better than IE in terms of performance. How can you say otherwise?!

No, did you even try the new IE? How did you measure this performance anyway? What if there was a background application making your comp slow when trying IE?

My guess is that you simply made the assumption that Firefox is faster than IE because you hate IE since it's a Microsoft product (and probably because older IE were slower). Now, I'm not really an expert to say which one is faster, but I'm not going to say IE is slower just because it is a Microsoft product.

But as I said, I like Firefox more, because it has increased security and the neat addons you can install. Also IE has the stupid and annoying tendency to rename every zip package you download to .zip extension, even when it is .pak, .h5m (H5 map), or something else.

Firefox is eating currently 100 MB of my memory.
This sure is a memory-eating browser

Ash, IE 6 (or whatever XP comes with) is a lot slower than Firefox 3.
IE 7 is supposed to be slower, at least by popular claim, not by MS marketing (and yes same guys actually use Vista but prefer Firefox over IE).

Memory eating browser without stupid aero-gradient-graphics (you can disable them anyway in FF) or glassy buttons means usually that it may be better in terms of speed, since it places a lot of cache in memory for faster access.

Ash point out where I said this bullcrap about me not liking IE because it is a Microsoft product? I actually like Microsoft products (most of them, except Vista of course, lol). Where the hell do you pull these things from? Honestly.

Apparently IE sucks in JavaScript but apart from that it loads faster than Firefox.
