Last day of the extension period, from tomorrow we proceed to play-offs... last chance for the guys in 2nd group to improve their situation  , still two important games left to play, hope they will manage playing
Updated group standings, group 1 is final, group 2 will be final in a couple of hours !

Heh , very suprising. The fact that i havent been playing heroes for a year doesnt mean i forgot how to play it. Besides, your score vs me isnt that good But thnx for congrats.

1-0 for me vs natalka . i went dwarfs, she took dungeon.
absolute luck FTW
I got best rune/spell setup i could hope for(except for elemental immunity but oh well...) I made really offensive hero and got lucky to get 10 attack. Then i get luck to get even more lucky , and i turned out to be lucky 100% game lol. With things goin like that , who knows, i may beat Strider again

Add on top of that that Yrwanna had only 18 sp and only one sp artie in the two artie shops. Actually I had 2 identical sp arties ...

My Maeve fell to strider's infernal forces lead by Nymus after a long and valiant battle. Chalk one up for strider.

Indeed but I was short on money, that would have meant one level and some paladins short. I lack experience with haven to know how things play out with every faction.

Strider was lucky too I'd say : decent spellpower, much lucky strikes, fear and massive gatings. This doesn't help when you play someone that don't leave any place to mistakes...

Haven - Inferno ... one of the match-ups I would avoid and having Nymus as opponent certainly didn't help either. With less lucky gating and fear, the game could perhaps have a closer out-come(still loss of course), instead of the slaughter it turned out to be.

It's nothing I hadn't realized by now but am I the only one that is concerned about certain matchups being sold out before they begin?
To me it sounds like a travesty to allow the hopeless matchups in semifinals, it's almost like a free pass to those that know them better. I don't mind if I lose but surely you can see there is something wrong here?

There is no match-up sold before it begins ... but there are some that advantage one side more than the other, but depending on certain luck factors balance can shift.
About this match-up, nothing much to say, there are several plans for Haven to have decent chances, but they all involve a bigger army. There is a nice replay from play-offs, if I remember correct between Strider and Theory, where Haven(Strider) manages to pull the victory to his side.
And btw, you get to select your town, nobody forces you to get involved in something you think it's gonna turn out bad. Foreseeing the probable out-come of match-ups and the chance of winning them, is also part of a good strategist's arsenal

@ Elvin... might as well give it up... towerlord is CONVINCED that his arena map is the most perfect thing since sliced bread.. and he and he alone ALWAYS has an answer for every problem.. If someone suggests an imbalance.. then he just tells them that they obviously dont know the answer and adds a "  " So I gave up trying to offer improvement suggestions. Trust me tho.. eventually people will quit playing it if the map doesnt evolve and improve. Nothing is perfect. Hopefully Towers ego calms down and he starts accepting this fact.
I am sure I will be opening myself up for more flaming here.. but I feel compelled to post my opinion here...
I love the concept of Arena... but still needs alot of fine tuning. Right now is ok.. but it could be " GOOD " and with enough open minded improvements based on player suggestions.. it could be GREAT!

Second game with strider gave me the victory, my Maeve sent Telsek's orcs packing after a successful charge and some convenient curses - who would think I'd cast a frenzy before the chieftains moved. I got enlightenment to match his stats and my dark spells were decent, furthermore he picked the wrong shatter.
Score is 1-1, next game will have my academy face inferno.

Jinxer, I have yet to see any suggestions from you in the map topic... so unless you have something to say there, please stop the spamming in here, since anyway Elvin was upset of the match-up selection system more, and less about the map(though he can't say I didn't warn him about the importance of it).
Anyway, I see he is doing a better job, at using the exploiting the system than before, so the problem is solved

Alas the third game while so promising was eventually lost. Perhaps investing in magic mirror would have saved me but I can't deny I made a few mistakes. Perhaps I was overconfident seeing how he could not damage me enough but the ensuing rain of vulnerabilies remedied that, good game.
Replay
One of my worst mistakes was leaving my gargoyles next to titans when it was clear that he could seduce my archmages and cast fireball with pitlords. The double fireball may have killed some gargoyles but it killed so much more on inferno's side, painful sacrifice. What was truly annoying was the gremlins remaining 1ith 1% seduction when they were 129, that might as well have killed me. So many golem hp lost. But what I truly believe lost me the game were the succubi right after I marked them. Where I would have killed 40 of them they acted first with morale and killed 48 gargoyles with a lucky hit. Game over when it would have been mine otherwise.
Continuing down my previous thoughts, had I not gotten all those spellpower artifacts, good destructive spells, icicle, defense, power of endurance the game would have EASILY been one sided. I cannot complain with what I was given but all the others were crap, does that mean that in most other games I would have to be better AND luckier than the inferno opponent? And don't tell me that is not so. Inferno can always depend on its might strategies, academy cannot depend on might and not always on magic either. And given two merchants and needing all the army and levels it can get no, you cannot invest in the spell stones with good conscience.
And the fact that I have gotten slightly better at strikeouts changes nothing, the system is rotten. The better strikeout player makes sure to get the better matchup and this is as lame as it gets. That's an elitist attitude where it's not up to your heroes skills or even luck that is part of the game, it is an abuse plain and simple. It's like playing chess to put your opponent at disadvantage first
