artu said: Do you think imdb scores are rigged by bots or whatever activated by movie companies? I was bored and I felt like reading some user comments about the Force Awakens. Now, the movie has a score of 8.3, yet, when you check the stars given by people who wrote comments, the first page goes like this, star numbers over ten:
4,1,4,3,1,1,1,4,1,1,2
I randomly skipped to page 12 and it's not any different:
2,2,1,1,3,1,1,3,1
It's as if anybody who had actually something to say disliked the film.
Well, that's the case. A vast majority of movie viewers enjoyed The Force Awakens and those, who did not are in a minority. However, since this a third highest grosing film ever, it a Star Wars movie and also the first one that was made without Lucas' supervision, group that hates this movie needs to represent their voice vocally enough. There's just no way you could have ommited this kind of criticism.
Similar thing has also just happened with Batman v Superman during last couple of weeks. This movie is considered to be disappointing but there is a vocal group that believes this movie is fantastic (some even say this is the best comic book-inspired movie ever) and all the critics that didn't like are paid by Disney because of... reasons. Yet again, we have a movie that combines two most popular superheroes of all time, so the reaction needs to be proportionally big to this spectacle's scope.
Leaving that issue aside, if any movie studio would make some kind of an action to pay anyone to make their reviews for a certain movie better/worse, there would be a couple of people who would report that instead of taking a bribe and studio's reputation would be lost for years to come. Disney with its animated features, live-action adaptations, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, TV productions can't allow itself for such a hit to their reputation.

How do you know?
First of all, the box office numbers. If people wouldn't like it, sure, it would earn quite a lot of money, but by no means 2 billion dollars. It would get less than a billion. Secondly, it scores on websites like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes are positive. Thirdly, it CinemaScore is an A. Cinemascore is a company that measures appeal of movies by audience members by asking them in cinemas at person what do they think of a movie (here's an explaination on how does it work.) I believe it is fair enough to believe, based on that evidence, that people liked The Force Awakens. Additionally, the distribution of its IMDB score follows very closely the normal distribution (except for score 1.) If that wouldn't be a case, there would be a reason to believe that someone is trying to falsify the data.

Does it sometimes occur to you that, sometimes, certain sites (like Rotten Tomatoes) have a somewhat biased view, which may not be accurate?
It is just that, sometimes, when I see a movie that seems average (or slightly bit above the average point), on those sites it is qualified as bad.

Look, on grounds like that and if we were to draw a parallel, Heroes 6 would account for being one of the best entries in the franchise, with favorable critic reviews and over 2 million copies sold, and we all know it was utter snow. As it was the case for both Heroes and Star Wars, the reputation preceded the entries and it's what sold most. People went to watch Star Wars in the cinema because it was Star Wars, not because it was good. In fact, The Force Awakens was my least favorite movie of all 7 that came to pass.
That's why I take critic scores, cash-in digits and other numbers appearing to be representative of a good movie that appealed to a majority with a chunk of salt.

Because many people misunderstand the concept of Rotten Tomatoes. RT measures how much the movie is liked by critics, or to be more precise, how many critics gave it at least 6 out of 10 or an anequivalent of this score. Many people misread "Rotten" on RT with a bad movie. Such a score means that a movie is divisive or disliked. It could be mediocre, but still disliked.

Heroes 6 doesn't have as good reviews as H5. Also, although H3-5 are immensely superior games imo, the truth is that there are a lot of people that liked H6 because it is more simple. Dedicated TBS fans are a rare breed.
It's apples and oranges though. HoMM is a niche game. Silverscreen cinema is a massive global market. Thousands of people *****ing on the internet about a movie is a fringe population. A few thousand *****ing about Heroes is a huge deal.

SQ has certainly succeeded in grabbing my attention, unlike Batman vs Superman. Hopefully it's as fun as the trailers suggest.
All the trailers for Suicide Squad were hits. It seems like there is till some hope for DCEU! No only get rid of Snyders (Zack's wife is a producer) and all the subsequent films should be fine.

rumor has it that not being as fun as the trailers suggest coupled with the failure of BvS and its grimdark serious tone is what's causing WB to do the big reshoots.

Which that trailer clearly disproves. The reason for reshoots, that is. They for sure record(ed) some new material, like with a majority of big-budget movies.

Supposedly the the trailers were a bit bit misleading and the actual movie was not going to be as light-hearted as they implied.
Funny yet unsurprising how the entire DC cinematic universe hangs on Harley Quinn right now. Can't say I don't look forward to the movie though I have my reservations for the handling of the female characters. Still, looks fun but I'm not holding my breath.

harley's really the only reason i give a snow about the movie. this is her debut on the big screen, and i look forward to that. i don't even know the other villains, save the obvious one. and even that's not so obvious. i get the idea that leto's car is going to have spinner rims on it.

They are in really bad shape if the entire DC cinematic universe hangs on Harley Quinn.

Somewhat underwhelming teaser, but they don't have the special effects ready yet so it is understandable.
